I don't think Egyptian social norms care what the Harry Potter woman has to say, actually
Maybe they didn’t believe she was female because the UK authorities are publicly in the habit of lying about sex on official documents, including passports? An issue caused and perpetuated entirely by transactivists, with no consideration of the consequences for women and girls? Including this exact consequence?
“Why are TERFs so obsessed with people’s privates hm?” 🥴
That’s a thoughtlessly callous argument when you consider that women and girls make up 100% of pregnancy by rape victims while 100% of the perpetrators are male. Or the fact that male sexual violence against women and girls is classified as a wartime weapon of terror. And that every single one of us realized before we were grown that males constantly think about what’s under our clothes, and we have to adapt and alter our routines our whole lives hoping for the best. So when a woman expresses discomfort about a male in our spaces, smugly insinuating that she’s the pervert or predator is the wrong fucking move.
Women are the only ones supposed to be okay with uncomfortable things.
Be okay with rap lyrics that portray women as objects. Be okay with reading the classics by white male authors who didn't shy away from letting the reader know just how much they hated women. Be okay with the use of imagery depicting violence against women for shock value by metal bands. Be okay with the blonde pop star posing like a dog while a man pulls her hair. Be okay with shaving your body hair. Be okay with applying makeup every day. Be okay with using noncancerous chemicals to straighten your hair. Be okay with ads showing half naked women. Be okay with other cultures' traditions such as head coverings, widows who are thrown in their husband's funeral pyre, female genital mutilation, forced marriages. Be okay with biological males dressing up as a caricature of women and stepping into your spaces. Be okay with language changes such as "chestfeeding" and "people who menstruate". Be okay with having to reconsider calling yourself a lesbian if you're not attracted to trans women and are repulsed by dick. Be okay with unlearning your "genital preference". Be okay with being strangled and beaten by your partner during sex. Be okay with being called a bitch, as it is not a slur. Be okay with the existence of an industry dedicated solely to the sexual exploitation of vulnerable women. Be okay with games from the point of view of a rapist. Be okay with children having access to videos showing women being raped. Be okay with protecting your rapist's career by not coming forward with an accusation. Be okay with the statistics that show your male partner is the person most likely to rape and/or kill you. Be okay with doctors dismissing your health issues. Be okay with your contributions being erased from history and your work being stolen by mediocre men.
The price of men's comfort is women's discomfort. We're supposed to stomach this discomfort all the time, no matter what. And for what? So that men can get to continue living in a system that benefits them and them alone?

"block radical feminists and stay safe"
It’s so unfair that the women who led the Temperance movement (which led to alcohol prohibition in the 1920s in the US) are painted as these joyless prudish nags who hated when others had fun, when really their issue was the fact that male failure to responsibly consume alcohol led to the rape, neglect, battery, and murder of their wives and children. They couldn’t stop male violence, but they did what they could to stop what exacerbated it.
To add to this, men controlled the family finances. So if it was going disproportionately on booze, that is less money for food, sanitation, rent, clothing, and household supplies. Men were impoverishing their families in favour of the drink.
I recently read Compañeras, a book about women Zapatistas living in autonomous communes in Mexico, and one of the things these women really insist on is banning alcohol. Because men drink and waste the little money they have, or don’t earn any money and just work in exchange for alcohol for pay, and then they come home drunk and beat and assault the women.
All the communes where these women have significant say in the organisation have banned alcohol.
once I see a group of women being painted as “joyless, prudes & nags” I just know it’s a patriarchal campaign against survivors of abuse
As soon as I see a group of women painted as “joyless prudes and nags” I want to befriend them. As should all women.
I believe I reblogged this post, or a post like this before… But the notion that “prohibition doesn’t work!” Has always been ridiculous, because it DID work.
When alcohol was prohibited, drinking went down immensely.
Just because some morons drank illegally and got hurt because of it doesn’t mean prohibition doesn’t work. I’m not even advocating for prohibition, but “prohibition doesn’t work!” Is not an argument because it objectively did.

"Islamaphobia" as if it's possible to be "phobic" against a patriarchal religious entity that has 1 billion followers and authoritarian control of several nation states and military weapons across the globe. That word has to be biggest, manipulative gas-light of the century. The idea that a powerful religious organization run by men globally is some kind of vulnerable minority that needs protecting is absolutely abhorrent and one of the most dangerous, diabolical, perversions of social justice language we've ever witnessed. When Arabic or middle-eastern people are unjustly discriminated against, it's called racism or xenophobia- just like for every one else. Under no circumstances should there be any word that suggests it's possible to be "phobic" against a set of religious beliefs or customs. Especially an established Abrahamic, patriarchal religion. In my lifetime, I want this word totally expunged and destroyed from all progressive or respectable lexicon. For the love of God, challenge and shame all use of that word every time you see it.

Mothers, teach your daughters not only to say no, but to say no with a self defense tool when plain no doesn't suit some of these men

the devaluation of derogatory words against women is also connected to the pyramid of "actually bad things liberals care about" where misogynistic words get sent right to the bottom and people act like women are off their meds for not wanting to hear demeaning and cruel words about us used so casually. i just had a man say the c-word was the male equivalent to the b-word and had to ask how the word for a woman's vulva was at all related to men and he went 😶 real quick. everyone is stupid and everyone hates us.
