I’m getting kind of frustrated with a couple of my friends because they’ve been making several posts per day on various social media since the 26th basically trying to make everyone quit celebrating the marriage equality ruling. 

There are plenty of important conversations to have (like how homophobia is not over and there are still lots of important issues in the LGBT community that don’t get as much attention, etc.), but I think that people can be aware of that while still celebrating. We can have more than one thought present at a time.

It’s just annoying me how some people are trying to, like, get social justice points for being so blasé (and therefore “enlightened”?) about it or whatever. Additionally, I realized that one of their critiques basically falls into the “how dare you not mention pan, non-binary, and demisexual people as often as you mention gays and lesbians!!” mindset, which is ridiculous for many reasons. It’s almost like they’re insinuating that lesbian and gay people have it so easy and are so privileged for being mentioned more often or something.

This makes me not want to hang out with them for a while because I don’t want to listen to them talk about this IRL and I’m not bold enough to argue much.

Even with the Supreme Court finally ruling in favor of marriage equality, there’s still a lot to do in order to stop discrimination against LGBT people. We got a pretty loud reminder of this from a hardware store in Washburn, Tennessee; near Knoxville. That store’s owner decided to put up a sign declaring in no uncertain terms that gays and lesbians are not welcome.
