y’all i just suddenly remembered that before riverdale aired, my otp in the archie universe was betty x reggie and i reasonably freaked out when ross posted this 

I MEAN, look at them?? they could’ve totally pulled it off. reggie and betty (beggie, as the ship is most known) has always existed in the comics and i loved the idea of the girl-next-door and the stereotypical jock. lili and ross were so down for it too and thing is, i was too??? 

but it never went anywhere bc reggie was barely around in s1 and then ross left the show. now with charles in the role, i can’t really see them happening anymore. which is a shame because before riverdale started, i envisioned the enemies to friends to lovers trope to be played by betty and reggie. this fic wrote it perfectly and i’m kinda bummed the author stopped writing it.

Jeronica is Dair 2.0, that means they’re not gonna be endgame because Riverdale just like Gossip Girl is a trashy and cringy teen show and it’s awfully written and they’re not brave enough to write an “unpopular” otp to be endgame. DAMMIT CW you have the tiniest dick energy ever,

How do you think jughead and veronica will react if barchie get together?

i think they’d be extremely torn up about it. jughead always had his reservations about being with betty in the beginning, whether it be because it was common knowledge that she had been in love with archie for the longest time or because jughead didn’t think he was good enough for her. seeing betty and archie together, like the way it was always supposed to be, would make him bitter. he’d be especially broken, all his insecurities coming to life. i see veronica being the same way. she had difficulty saying ‘i love you’ to archie last season and we see it was because she’s never heard her own parents say it to her face. i feel like part of the reason why she and archie are so physical (almost always having sex and less talking about things) is because it’s the only way she knows how to open herself up to him. doesn’t mean i think their relationship is shallow but i do feel that even veronica thinks she’s not offering everything she can for archie the way betty effortlessly could.

betty and archie are childhood best friends and neighbors. everyone secretly roots for them to get together, kevin even going as far as saying that they may not be dating now but they are, in fact, endgame. when they get together, people would look at them say, “it’s been a long time coming.” doesn’t matter how long it took them to get there, so long as it did. i think deep down, jughead and veronica know this too. so if betty and archie got together, i just know they’d be so fucking miserable. they’ll think they were just mere stand-ins for the other before betty and archie eventually found their way to each other. 

this is a common fanfiction theme, actually. archiebetty getting together is usually the catalyst for a jeronica friendship/romance because the possibility of them leaning on each other after their breakups is so plausible. they know the pain of losing their loved one to a person they’ve always suspected they lose to. so if this is the same route the show takes, i won’t be surprised. i just hope that if this does become the case, they won’t let a jeronica romance remain a meaningless fling to get over the heartbreak. i want to see them realize that they have so much in common and not just in interests (they’d watch movies together, argue over literature, share banters and quips as their way of showing affection) but in personal/familial experiences too. they’d be so perfect for each other imo. the only shame is that not everyone can see that 🤷🏻‍♀️
