People do not see masculinity as being as fluid and complex and nuanced as femininity and it’s annoying as hell. Because of patriarchy’s stranglehold on masculinity and radfem theory’s stranglehold on queer spaces, people really think with their whole heart that only femininity is subversive or experimental, or frankly, queer, and that masculinity is only a power grab and nothing more. Embarrassing!
Below is a bunch of writings from a variety of genders, cis and trans, on queer masculinity:
Female Masculinity by Jack Halberstam (book pdf)
Butch is a Noun by S. Bear Bergman (book pdf)
Understanding the Bear Movement in Gay Male Culture by Eric Manley, Heidi Levitt and Chad Mosher Mcoun (essay)

For Spirit Day, GLAAD Campus Ambassador Grace Ancrum shares her experience with bullying and coming into her gender expression.
This is something that I have been discussing with close friends and working on what this means for myself. As somebody who is considered a
Mermaids’ Luan meets writer Ezra Woodger to talk about his new book, To Be A Trans Man
There's even a wide variety of masculinities even within cis hetero society as well, many of which are not privileged by modern patriarchy. That and a more broad exploration of that also is within the academic text "Masculinities" by Raewyn Connell who discovered her transness writing the first edition.
Well, I addressed a few times that the focus was on people thinking masculinity cannot be queer but also that yes even cishet masculinity can be subversive. That being said, the majority of the texts are by cis people addressing cis masculinities, including cis men. And most of them are related to intersections of other identities, a big one being race.
I admit I knew little about Raewyn (R.W.) Connell but her story sounds so fascinating! A number of trans theorists uncovered their transness though gender studies but I’ve heard of it way more frequently over “”women””’s studies. Absolutely delightful that her study of (predominantly men’s) masculinity uncovered her gender reality too.
I began reading the second edition of Masculinities last night and am already immensely intrigued. (Pdf)
BRIDGERTON | Season 3, Episode 8, “Into the Light”
Not really a fan of Bridgerton, but I am a fan of Nicola Coughlan's response to everyone shitting on her for being "too big" to play a love interest
I think the internet as a whole needs to ask themselves one simple question when they see a video.
Why was the camera filming.
There are so many videos that seem real, but when you realize the camera was already filming with a great angle, you can see that it's all staged.
Yes, there are dash cams, security footage, people accidentally filming real things happening. But so many are just staged!! And no one in the notes takes the camera preparation into consideration!
This is 2024, you need to know how to spot bots lying to you, but also humans lying to you.

ok being nosy for a second so apologies if this question ages you: have you, personally, ever user a floppy disk before?
Yes, I have used a floppy disk before
No, I haven't used a floppy disk before

Tag your age if you wanna bc I was just thinking about how I have used floppy disks before (I'm 25 and used them in elementary computer lab) but my 22 y.o. brother hasn't which is so weird to me like 3 years isn't a long time at all to me
I REMEMBER WHEN THEY WERE ACTUALLY FLOPPY, I bet even the "olds" who remember disks are thinking of the 3 1/2 inch "floppies" that were actually hard.

See, I’m less annoyed than a lot of people because to me that last montage felt more like a dream of Ted’s than anything else. And don’t forget, Bill Lawrence has pulled this before: with the finale of Scrubs we don’t talk about Scrubs Interns JD’s final moments involve him imagining what the future looks like for him, and it’s up to the audience to decide how much or how little will come true. It’s left very ambiguous what the canonical future holds for our heroes - which, let’s be honest, is a pretty Ted Lasso move to pull. After all, we never can tell.
But once you consider that, the montage makes a lot more sense if you read it happening in Ted’s mind. It’s all very Ted-coded, showing everything he wants for his England family: the team all hanging out together. Trent’s book as a success but not making Ted front and centre. Keeley pushing for a women’s team. Sam making the Nigerian team. Roy taking his first steps as a proper leader. Nate back on the coaching squad and getting on better with his dad. Jamie reconciling with his dad (that’s very Ted-coded). Beard’s ludicrously filtered wedding to Jane (which Ted doesn’t even appear in, because we never see ourselves in our own dreams).
(And let me tell you, even if nothing else is fantasy that definitely was; having lived near Stonehenge for over ten years I can guarantee you the weather is never like that.)
I suspect that executive meddling has a lot to do with it - it’s pretty clear that a lot of people involved with Ted Lasso don’t know whether that’s it for the Richmond universe or not - but the fact that we end that montage with Ted jerking awake really has me feeling like that was a serious case of Ambiguous Ending. Until anything else in the Richmond universe is confirmed , we’re left able to pick and choose which bits will come true and which won’t. Which, hey, I’m a bit of a sucker for, so I’m satisfied with that.
All of this. And Ted’s final speech to the locker room:
“Now regarding this second half? Yeah I don’t know what’s gonna to happen. You know what I mean? No one does. Sports would be a lot less fun if we did. You know? […] We don’t wanna know the future. No, no, we wanna be here right now.”
(Just substitute “life” for “sports”)
Let’s be real one of the biggest mistakes the 100 ever did is kill off Wells and keep Finn instead. There was literally no reason for fu.ckboy to stay around other than to eventually die which he did. If Wells had been here, just imagine how he would’ve been there with Clarke and Bellamy when they tried to figure out what to do with Mount Weather. He could’ve possibly been one of the people getting hurt which would’ve solidified Clarke’s decision even more when she decided to kill the mountain people. Or if he was there when the whole Pike thing was going on and Clarke was away at Polis. He would’ve been able to convince her to come back or at least consider what was happening at camp and help her make sense of the situation. Honestly, what a disappointment!!!
BOB MORLEY as NATE in IN LIMBO 1.03
The LGBTQ community has seen controversy regarding acceptance of different groups (bisexual and transgender individuals have sometimes been marginalized by the larger community), but the term LGBT has been a positive symbol of inclusion and reflects the embrace of different identities and that we’re stronger together and need each other. While there are differences, we all face many of the same challenges from broader society.
In the 1960′s, in wider society the meaning of the word gay transitioned from ‘happy’ or ‘carefree’ to predominantly mean ‘homosexual’ as they adopted the word as was used by homosexual men, except that society also used it as an umbrella term that meant anyone who wasn’t cisgender or heterosexual. The wider queer community embraced the word ‘gay’ as a mark of pride.
The modern fight for queer rights is considered to have begun with The Stonewall Riots in 1969 and was called the Gay Liberation Movement and the Gay Rights Movement.
The acronym GLB surfaced around this time to also include Lesbian and Bisexual people who felt “gay” wasn’t inclusive of their identities.
Early in the gay rights movement, gay men were largely the ones running the show and there was a focus on men’s issues. Lesbians were unhappy that gay men dominated the leadership and ignored their needs and the feminist fight. As a result, lesbians tended to focus their attention on the Women’s Rights Movement which was happening at the same time. This dominance by gay men was seen as yet one more example of patriarchy and sexism.
In the 1970′s, sexism and homophobia existed in more virulent forms and those biases against lesbians also made it hard for them to find their voices within women’s liberation movements. Betty Friedan, the founder of the National Organization for Women (NOW), commented that lesbians were a “lavender menace” that threatened the political efficacy of the organization and of feminism and many women felt including lesbians was a detriment.
In the 80s and 90s, a huge portion of gay men were suffering from AIDS while the lesbian community was largely unaffected. Lesbians helped gay men with medical care and were a massive part of the activism surrounding the gay community and AIDS. This willingness to support gay men in their time of need sparked a closer, more supportive relationship between both groups, and the gay community became more receptive to feminist ideals and goals.
Approaching the 1990′s it was clear that GLB referred to sexual identity and wasn’t inclusive of gender identity and T should be added, especially since trans activist have long been at the forefront of the community’s fight for rights and acceptance, from Stonewall onward. Some argued that T should not be added, but many gay, lesbian and bisexual people pointed out that they also transgress established gender norms and therefore the GLB acronym should include gender identities and they pushed to include T in the acronym.
GLBT became LGBT as a way to honor the tremendous work the lesbian community did during the AIDS crisis.
Towards the end of the 1990s and into the 2000s, movements took place to add additional letters to the acronym to recognize Intersex, Asexual, Aromantic, Agender, and others. As the acronym grew to LGBTIQ, LGBTQIA, LGBTQIAA, many complained this was becoming unwieldy and started using a ‘+’ to show LGBT aren’t the only identities in the community and this became more common, whether as LGBT+ or LGBTQ+.
In the 2010′s, the process of reclaiming the word “queer” that began in the 1980′s was largely accomplished. In the 2020′s the LGBTQ+ acronym is used less often as Queer is becoming the more common term to represent the community.

TED LASSO (1x07 | 3x06)
During the 2019 flu season in Canada, 46k people were diagnosed with influenza. That's not people who "felt sick", that's people who went to their doctor or emergency, had a test done, and were told "yup, that's the flu".
Of those 46k, 2000 had symptoms severe enough to be hospitalized so they could be monitored.
Of those 2000, 600 ended up in ICU, connected to machines to breath for them.
Of those 600, 200 died.
2019 had a fairly average flu season.
During the 2020 flu season, that was 69. Total. Zero hospitalization. Zero ICU. Zero deaths.
The 2021 flu season is almost over and since people were "more comfortable" this year not wearing masks where they should have been the numbers are higher, but still only in the hundreds of cases, with zero deaths to date.
If anyone tries to tell you masks don't work, there are statistically at least 400 people who did not die of the flu who prove otherwise.
WE PROBABLY ELIMINATED TWO STRAINS OF INFLUENZA IN HUMANS. WE CUT TRANSMISSION SO MUCH THE STRAIN DIED OUT BECAUSE IT COULDN’T SPREAD TO PEOPLE.
WEAR THE GOD DAMNED MASKS.
