april, finally bought a new bullet journal and am trying to get back into the art scene!!
21.01.24 || New year, same old me with the pics from my study abroad two years ago. Where does the time go?
Term started late this year due to covid, but classes finally started last week. I’m taking three language courses and am in absolute heaven right now. I feel like I finally have the time to focus on the smallest details of Greek and Latin and can nerd out over grammar constructions with my professors. Maybe teaching a language is my true calling, since I’m at my happiest in a language class.
Also lerne ich Deutsch und lese Der Kleine Prinz. Wo sind die Deutschsprache studyblrs?
third day of the semester
i am already swamped with schoolwork and my internships. how’s the semester/quarter looking like for you?
Catroux, Westmere
Drinks pictured: Iced americano ($5) and flat white ($4.5).
I have been to Catroux once before, a year and a half ago, and I really loved their coffee! Went back again recently, and enjoyed an iced americano. They serve Allpress Coffee now. This is a medium sized cafe, with indoor and outdoor seats, and they do catering and bake cakes too.
this is how i spent all of autumn break. in my dads mock-studio which is just a bright room in our summer house (honestly the light in there is magical). studying economics until my eyes bled.
it’s so insidious that priyanka chopra can straight up advocate for bombing kashmir and pakistan and label it “patriotism” with her bitchy clap back at a distressed activist trying to hold her accountable and being silenced, and meanwhile shitty uk tabloids be like
the disconnect is unreal. the fundamental lack of understanding of the situation in south asia right now and the way (this brand of) western media is so desperate to maintain the status quo of keeping celebrity culture up on its pedastal that encouraging nuclear warfare against innocent and oppressed civilians, like, doesn’t matter at all
her specific jump from bollywood to hollywood has given her a unique voice and position that a lot of westerners simply do not understand. in india, she’s from the elite. she’s born and bred into the highest class of bollywood royalty, her family history is tied to the military which constantly seeks to go to war against pakistan as well as oppressing the muslim community and other religious minirities in india. her ties to the disgustingly rich ambanis who have made their billions off the backs of poor indians and have terrible business practices, and the prime minister modi who is a staunch hindu nationalist who believes in and has been consistently making moves towards expelling all religious minorities from the country - not exactly woke kween behaviour
relocating to america means all these white people writing think pieces about how hashtag woke it is that this brown woman, from an oppressed minority, is the lead in her own tv show. she’s constantly asked about representation and taking up space in the industry as a brown woman. but that’s all meaningless coming from her - she’s never lived as an oppressed minority in america or anywhere, but it’s allowed her to co opt a #movement of #wokeness that the west loves. it means that her rampant blatant and dangerous islamophobia and imperialism is allowed to go unchecked because there’s no understanding at all of where she comes from and what she stands for in India.
it’s fully our responsibility as desi diaspora to speak out on this to educate fellow westerners, and to uplift the voices of desi activists in the homeland speaking out about what’s happening right now. i know it seems trivial in the face of what’s actually happening in kashmir, but i think perception is everything and in the west if this one singularly famous south asian person trivialises the matter without being called out, it really does shape how people here see the issue
just in case anyone else wants to act a complete fucking fool on this post i made years ago that’s getting notes again: modi is evil, islamophobia is rampant and literally killing muslims every day in india, kashmir and around the world, “hindu rights” have literally never been at risk so shut the fuck up, and kashmir deserves sovereignty and peace unconditionally. you have anything else to say, catch this block.
She was also the face skin whitening products in India and in the US she advocates for self love and positivity?
You can always start again. Clean out your social media. Create a new account for your new taste in music. Study or work in a new city. Start socialising with new people. Choose a new signature scent and style and purge the outdated parts of yourself. If you don’t like where you’re at, but you don’t know what to do about it - try starting again.

my favourite shots from st. paul’s cathedral / melbourne, australia!
dress up just to study, chew on the caps of your highlighters while you scribble notes in the margins of your books, put your feet up on your desk and drink cinnamon tea with too much sugar, learn calligraphy and write your favorite quotes on pages of old books and tape them to your wall, drink wine and read in the bath and use that bathbomb you keep forgetting is in your cabinet, play your favorite music play classical music play music from the 20s and dance down your hallway just because, call your friends and read aloud like each word is the most important one on the page, see if you can light enough candles to not need to use a lamp and open your window even though it’s cold, go for a walk and see if you can take a turn you haven’t taken before, live life as a challenge of how fun and dramatic a tiny world can be

Hey loves! It’s been a while but I hope all has been well! Tbh, I haven’t really felt the need to be active on social media these days and have just been focusing on my gap year goals. I don’t know if it’s just me, but I really feel like time has went by incredibly fast and it’s so crazy. For quick life updates, I watched lots of movies with my family during their winter break including X-Men: Apocalypse (I missed X-Men so much), Wonder Woman 1984, Jumanji: The Next Level (which was so hilarious), and Ready Player One (such an interesting movie omg, I highly recommend). Also, I moved my room around and decluttered and now it feels like a new room! It’s much more spacious and I’m so content with it.
I also got myself an iPad for university to try going paperless and I’ve been experimenting around with Goodnotes 5 which is super fun! I’m so grateful to the studyblr community for introducing me to the idea of digital notes; I’ve been so accustomed to writing on paper that it just didn’t cross my mind. It’s one of the many things I’m thankful for in being part of this community. I’ve also bought lots of new books and I’m excited to read them! With all that being said, here’s some excerpts from my philosophy book and some letters I wrote to myself!! I hope y’all have a wonderful Friday!! 🤍✨
