summary:

Liam Dunbar has been the BHPD’s best detective since he was first promoted five years ago. When a series of gruesome, cult-related killings start appearing with alarming regularity throughout the county, Liam has to partner with closed-off, uptight FBI Behavioural Analyst Theo Raeken to track down their prime suspect: Tamora Monroe. This could be the case that makes or breaks Liam’s career. Too bad Agent Raeken seems hell-bent on making his life miserable with his good looks, sharp tongue, and slightly more-than-questionable moral compass.

“Let me see, the way you stand suggests ex-military, but you’re young enough not to have retired by choice - judging by the way you favour your left leg slightly, I’m willing to bet an accident put you out of commission long enough for your GI-Joe-ass to become disillusioned by senseless patriotic violence and more inclined to spend time with your service dog - Golden Retriever, or maybe a Labrador, judging by the hairs still clinging to the bottom of your slacks.”

“Based on the way your eyebrow twitched and your jaw clenched when the Captain slammed his door just now, I’d wager you suffer from moderate to severe PTSD and that you also have practice hiding your reactions to your triggers. No wife or girlfriend then, obviously, because that closed-off, tortured persona is probably only attractive to the ladies until they realise that you really aren’t going to open up to them and that no, they can’t fix you.”

Liam leans in close for the final twist of the knife, searching green eyes for a flicker of something, anything.

“You live alone, you’re a neat freak and a sparse decorator, and I’d bet you still haven’t fully unpacked your belongings even though you moved in years ago. Ten bucks says you have a go bag in your bedroom, your office and your car, and an escape plan that doesn’t account for anyone else except you and your dog.”

Liam notes the way Agent Raeken’s fingers tense slightly around his coffee cup and smirks.

“How’d I do?”

~ LIAM DUNBAR HEADCANONS ~

My contribution to @liamdunbarsappreciation week!!

A mashup of days 1, 2, and 7 from the visual prompts and days 1 and 2 from the written prompts.

1. Hand Doodles – On days when Liam’s IED flares up, he tends to get fidgety: he picks at his cuticles, bounces his leg, or rapidly clicks his pen over and over (which drives his classmates and teachers a bit crazy). It was only after Mason caught a glimpse of pen markings on the back of Liam’s hand that the pack realized they may have found a way to help soothe him during class time. Whenever they see Liam beginning to fidget, they subtly slide a hand onto his desk and flip over his pencil pouch to his collection of colored pens. The first couple times, Liam thought they were asking to borrow a pen and reminded them that they were free to use any of his things so long as they returned them, but eventually he understood that they were quite literally lending him a hand. After a lot of reassurance, Liam went from drawing 1-2 small things to covering the pack members’ entire hands with little doodles.

Extra note: His favorite thing to draw is definitely the Superman logo.

2. Ratty Converse – The day the soles finally fell out of Liam’s trusty pair of red Chuck Taylor All Stars might have been the worst day of his life. Theo nearly had to knock him out to pry them off of his feet but narrowly avoided doing so with the promise that he’d order the exact same pair with priority shipping. Liam grumbled that they’d never be as special as his original pair, but when they were worn down and it was time to let them go, he reacted the exact same way.

3. Star Wars Ringtone – When rising spring temperatures make afternoon practices a grueling affair, Coach shifts to early morning practices for the lacrosse team, meaning Liam has to tackle his nemesis: his alarm clock. Nothing sets Liam off quite like the incessant blaring of an alarm clock, as evident by the dents in the wall on the far side of his room where past alarm clocks have been hurled out of rage. Normally, his mom would swing by his room to wake him up before heading out to work, but these practices required him to be the first one awake in the Geyer-Dunbar household. To avoid creating any new additions to the dent wall, Liam experimented with different ringtones to find one he could tolerate for the season. As a joke, he changed it to the Cantina Band music from Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. Suddenly, it was not a joke… it was the perfect fit. He might’ve kept it even after the season ended, too.
