Good for this person. This is exactly what you do. Screw the job.
I had a job that made me work an all nighter, 30 hours straight, over Thanksgiving. I resigned that Monday and it was one of the most satisfying decisions I’ve ever made.
Part 3:
BRAVO!!
Someone smarter than me has probably already said this, but there are a few things of importance to note.
Before leaving the job, this person knew their company’s policies on PTO and was very familiar with how they are supposed to resign according to those policies. Some jobs genuinely do have specific requirements so you have got to follow those perfectly. This person also left ample documentation about their job. No one is keeping track of your work, your achievements, your daily tasks, etc. you have to do that for yourself. Always leave a well-documented paper trail of what your job is and how you do it. This person left behind documentation of exactly what they do to fix these types of problems, further proving their worth. After resigning, this person received a lot of contact from their former employer. By refusing to pick up the phone, they made sure all correspondence was documented in writing. If you’re in this position and you have to take the phone call, do it on speaker phone and either record the conversation or do it with your lawyer present. In some states recording a conversation without alerting the other party that you are recording is illegal, but that crime is so minor in this instance that what is actually said during the conversation supersedes this rule. Next, many personal attacks were made by the employer and never once did this person respond to them; that’s incredibly smart. I know it’s hard not to take these kinds of words personally, but by keeping it professional this person comes off looking infinitely better than the employer, and if this has to go before a jury at some point, their professionalism will make them look better.
I know I already reblogged this, but I just can’t get over the audacity. They just showed this man that they literally cannot run their company without him, and they still expect him to come crawling back. They should have already been paying him more than anyone else if he was so important that his absence will cause the company to fail. Incredible.
