In which Sherlock eats some bread, and Mycroft pays a visit.
Man I hate it when people use the pronoun “you” as a singular pronoun in an informal setting. “You” is plural, unless thou dost speak to an unfamiliar person. The correct singular second person pronoun is “thou” in most cases. Grammar never changes. Pronouns must always stay one way until the end of time. Learn thy proper English. *sigh* Kids these days.
If thou this mistake shouldst make on thine own blog, then know, villain, that thou art a dirty descriptivist, and no friend of mine. Ne'er should language itself alter, it doth remain fixèd as such, untouch’d by change. Wouldst thou, vile descriptivist, that we forget the heritage of our great tongue? Nay, say I. Time Travel, Johnlock Style
I’ve started another time travel story! Well, that isn’t good news for the rest of my unfinished WIPs, but it’s not as if I can stop myself. There’s nothing that is so much fun as confounding Reichenbach with a few paradoxes– all leading to Johnlock, of course.
I’m taking the opportunity to offer up some of my favorite time-travel stories in the fandom and ask for your recommendations.
Rewind, by @khorazir / 47553 words. Post Season/Series 04; TFP does not exist. When Sherlock is six years old, he finds out that strange things happen when the mole on his neck is touched under certain circumstances: it switches him back in time. Over the years, he discovers both the advantages and disadvantages of being thus granted a way to relive certain events, to reconsider decisions and remedy mistakes – until an accidental touch sends him back to Barts morgue on 29th January 2010, thus undoing eight years of acquaintance with John Watson. Is this a most unfortunate incident, a curse, even? Or is it indeed a second chance to finally shape his relationship with John the way it should have been from the beginning?
Like all @khorazir stories, this one is beautifully written and plotted, and it has art as well! If you haven’t read it yet, you should!
Nothing Happened in Belarus by @discordantwords / 6589 words. Season/Series 01, Season/Series 04. Six years, give or take. And one night where nothing happened.
This is truly one of my favorite stories. I can’t even describe it without taking away some of the pleasure you will find in discovering it for yourself. Just read it.
A Winter Walk by @cathedralcarver / 3382 words. Post-Reichenbach. Time is the longest distance between two places.
Like almost every cathedral_carver story, this one makes me cry. Sherlock, returning from exile, runs into John from the future. Bittersweet, hopeful.
I’ve written two of my own:
Concurrence by @calaisreno / 70876 words. Episode s01e03 The Great Game. BBC Sherlock is sent back to 1880 by James Moriarty, for reasons that are not at first clear to Sherlock. There he meets Victorian John Watson. They fall in love, of course, and Sherlock promises to bring John back to 2010, where they will not need to hide their relationship, but something goes wrong and they are separated. While John is trying to navigate 2010 without his partner, Sherlock is learning what Moriarty is planning.
This was one of the first stories I posted on AO3, and still my favorite child (but don’t tell the others). It’s about to reach its third anniversary, and ready to hit the 400 milestone, so somebody go there and toss a kudo at it!
While You Were Dead by @calaisreno / 4210 words. Reichenbach Return. On a stormy night at the hospital, John gets a second chance to say something he regrets not saying. This is part of the Many Happy Returns series I wrote last year.

Tomorrow he’ll do the same. Whatever he does, wherever he goes, however his night might end, tomorrow he’ll do the same.
I love the movie and have had this one marked for a while.
The Case of the Moebius Trip by Bitenomnom. 129,218 words. Post-Reichenbach. When John finally gives in and accepts a case for the first time since Sherlock fell eight months ago, he finds himself in a unique position: in possession of what his client calls a time machine, and desperate enough to give it a go. If it works, he could travel back in time. If it works, he could save Sherlock.

Updated to add my latest story: No Such Person. ACD Watson / BBC Holmes. Not science-y. Sherlock takes the case of a missing man, an army doctor whose sister believes there is something sinister about his disappearance. It’s actually a bit more complicated than that.
I’ve got another time travel story on the back burner. Aiming for summer (I hope). Stay tuned.

Do you need more proof that S4 is fucking fake? And more likely a drug induced coma fever dream?
Remember E? The woman on the bus that "Eurus" pretended to be and had a text affair with John? How did she give John her number? Written on a piece of paper. And what was her number?
I always wondered if there was a signiificance to this phone number. I looked for meta on this but never found a one with proper proofs, forgive me if I overlooked any and please let me know if so. As is with this ridiculous show that even after re-watching it for the 143rd time, I still get baffled at things I didn't notice before!
And I cannot believe that this number comes from

Henry Knight's napkin with the train girl's phone number on it.
Sherlock: The girl – female handwriting’s quite distinctive. Wrote her phone number down on the napkin. I can tell from the angle she wrote at that she was sat across from you on the other side of the aisle. Later – after she got off, I imagine – you used the napkin to mop up your spilled coffee, accidentally smudging the numbers. You’ve been over the last four digits yourself with another pen, so you wanted to keep the number. Just now, though, you used the napkin to blow your nose. Maybe you’re not that into her after all.
E was sitting across from John on the other side of the aisle on the bus. And it seemed she already had the number written down the way she is looking at the piece of paper, she probably just wrote Exx at the bus stop scene. John contemplated throwing her number in the bin but then decided to keep it after all.
What does this tell me? A clear indication that S4 is an amalgamation of what THoB is essentially all about - re-written memories due to childhood trauma, drug induced hallucinations, doing therapy (Sherlock's recurring dream), on the verge of suicide, not knowing what's real and what's not, betrayed by someone close - we know what Henry Knight saw was never real, the HOUND was never real. We also know Henry Knight is a Sherlock mirror.
If you notice the phone number screen grab from THoB, the 3rd last and 2nd last number seem to "1 and 5" that is rewritten by Henry, the last number is not visible to us. The last three numbers on E's number is "552".

This is Sherlock's version, he has rewritten this with his pen. All of S4.

If January 2023 is the mooted date for s5 based on the Doyle estate losing their chokehold on Holmes, then January 2022 does not seem like an improbably time to announce that the show will return. Alarming thought because that’s like 7 weeks away.

i had the best human interaction of all time last night. i was sitting at a bar eating an appetizer and this guy comes up to order a drink and stares at my food and comments how good it looks. when i am drunk i use the word bitch like it is a comma, i plug it into any space in a sentence possible. so naturally the first thing i say to this stranger is, “go ahead and take one, bitch.”
he looks SO shocked and taken aback and goes “what did you just say? how do you know my name?” so i sit there for a moment trying to figure out what the fuck he is talking about, and then go, “…. bitch?” and he looks so relieved and tells me his name is mitch.
i cannot stop thinking about this. oh my god. imagine going into a bar and someone you know for a fact youve never met approaches you and says “go ahead and take one, mitch.” im cracking the fuck up. he looked like he thought this was the fucking truman show
Sherlock's EMP is definitely a coma (and ‘Doctor Who’ confirms it)
Have you watched the ‘Doctor Who’ episode ‘The Eleventh Hour’ (s5ep1)? No, but really…Have you watched it with your ‘Sherlock’ goggles on?
‘The Eleventh Hour’ is a ‘Sherlock’ episode in disguise.
(Somebody must have noticed this and written about it before, but I couldn’t find anything, so I hope posting this is okay.)
It’s the first ‘Doctor Who’ episode of Moffat’s era as showrunner, and, boy, is this episode NOT about ‘Doctor Who’. Like…I actually feel a bit sorry for genuine ‘Doctor Who’ fans because the whole subtext of this thing is just one giant, self-indulgent ‘Sherlock’ fest.:D
It’s amazing Moffat even got away with it. But then…nobody ever reads and interprets and understands the subtext (except for a few weirdos on the internet like us), so Moffat probably felt totally safe to do this.
(Actually, Moffat even gave us internet weirdos a massive shout-out in this very episode, but more on that later.)
Anyway…if you take a closer look at the subtext of this episode, you will see that SHERLOCK IS IN A COMA. Definitely!
Do you wanna know how I know? Let’s go through this episode step by step, shall we?
At the beginning of the episode, we get an age-old tale, really:
A boy and a girl in a garden (!) of all places…
…and she gives him an apple…
…and there’s even an evil snake…
Yeah, you got it. It’s that Biblical Adam-and-Eve story from Genesis, for sure.

Thanks for this very brilliant, thorough and thought-provoking read @sagestreet! It’s been many years since I watched The Eleventh Hour, and I remember liking the Eleventh doctor and Amy Pond a lot, but I had forgotten how many oddities it actually contains. :) It didn’t occur to me by then that this episode might be referencing another show like BBC Sherlock - no idea! And neither did I watch it with any intention to interpret the subtext. Now with your excellent meta and all of BBC Sherlock in mind, however, (and also after having seen @tjlcisthenewsexy point out a lot of interesting similarities and possible hints in Doctor Who regarding BBC Sherlock), this episode gets a whole new dimension to it, and it certainly does strike a lot of subtext buttons. It’s a pity I no longer have access to Moffat’s DW, I’d very much like to rewatch it.

i like the idea of the showdown in a hospital ward. in a way, weve had two approaches to it already (rule of three?). there are scenes in HLV that hint at revealing various truths over sherlock’s bed, and then in TLD there is a kind of showdown between sherlock and smith, a dark!john, and then with john himself. seems like hospitals are kind of a thing in sherlock, he and john meet in a lab (accurate to STUD), but then multiple lab and morgue scenes, that are not taken directly from ACD canon. Barts is reinforced as sherlock’s workplace in nearly every episode in the first two series (THOB puts them in the baskerville lab instead) and then sherlock himself lands in hospital in s3 & 4.
