In my opinion, not enough detail has been made available to the public for me to properly share my thoughts on the situation but Nadja did bring up some wonderful points with the little information they had 1) In most African derived Spiritual practices Lineage is extremely important, simply being born into a practicing family or society does not guarantee certain information will be shared with you. 2) You do not seek, you are sought (called). and 3) It seems to be acceptable in the Wiccan practice to call to anything you want, this is not a rule recognized by other spiritual practices and has often gotten the inexperienced hurt.
