* This is a fandom blog for the system @trapezia-pearl-system. You may call us Pearl or Dirk. He/xe/it pronouns.
* This blog may have some nsfw stuff. We block minors who follow or DM, but basic interaction is fine (excluding nsfw posts of course).
* IMPORTANT! If you are a minor and this account follows you, please do not follow back. The follow is probably for system content, in which case you can follow back on that blog.
* Below cut lists our main fandoms, interests/special interests, and misc. info! Basically shit you dont need to read.
* Fandoms *
* Homestuck newgen. Can you tell? Is it obvious? Dirk is our favorite character and also pretty much us, no thanks to the fictive.
* She-Ra and the Princesses of Power; very recent special interest! Catra is the best and perfect and can do no wrong. Or she can do all the wrong. Whichever. Talk to me about her!
* Hazbin Hotel, past special interest. Talk to me about Angel Dust I have lots to say and Iâm also a pervert about him.
* Steven Universe, past special interest. Pearl is absolutely lovely. This is where our username comes from.
* âŚMost queer(/-coded) cartoons honestly. Or cartoons in general. Adventure Time, Helluva Boss, Arcane, Avatar: The Last Airbenderâjust ask. We probably know and love it.
* Degrees of Lewdity, a 18+ life simulation game. Lots of dark topics in this one, beware if you search it out on your own.
* & more, youâll probably see a collection of fandoms interspersed here.
* Sp-interest sex. Subsets; kink, trauma, the taboo.
* Sp-interest discourse. Subsets; politics, discrimination, purity culture. This probably (hopefully) wonât be discussed much on this account.
* Regular interests: my pets, writing (fanfic & roleplay), POLLS/poll blogs, reading, (queer) history
* The sp-interests all overlap in significant ways. Ask me about them I LOVE to ramble I will talk excessively please let me rant.
* Misc Info *
* You made it this far? Wow. Hi.
* Uhhh okay opinions on discourse: anti-radfems (yes all of them), pro-Palestine, pro-fiction, pro-kink, pro-endo, pro-self diagnosis, psych-critical. Both transmisogyny and transandrophobia are real. Far leftist.
* Taboo shipper. Non-con my beloved, abuse my heart and soul, incest my savior (we r stridercest irl). Not into lolisho, circumstantially into age gaps. Trigger warnings (for all of these and other common triggers) are âtw [subject]â

not now sweetie, mommy is watching how the massive girlbossification of female characters has led to the belief that weak and vulnerable female characters are badly written characters because apparently every woman needs to be outspoken and witty and snarky and brave in order to be considered âcomplexâ and have any value in a piece of media!!
I saw an ask where someone was being harassed by a reader of one of their fics. The post didn't offer a lot of information, but they said the reader had issues concerning the depiction of race/gender/sexuality (of, I'm assuming, a character) within a fan-work on ao3.
In summary, Anon was asking if perceived [because they did not disclose any more details] improper representation was just cause for harassing the writer.
Post here
[NOTE: Harassment is NEVER okay. I do not support that part of the argument what-so-ever. The person was wrong for taking it off platform and proceeding to harass the writer. Let me make that clear. My thoughts are solely on my thoughts about OPs response, and what to do if this happens to you.]
(Also, please dont go and harrass OP. That was not the purpose of this post in the slightest.)
I had to sit with myself for a moment to think about my own opinion on the issue. As I am anti-censorship and pro-fic. [I believe that you should have the right to create works (not just fan-works) that discuss traditionally taboo or uncomfortable topics.]
However, I am also Black, Queer, and Neurodivergent. I know from experience just how important proper representation/depictions are even within fiction. Which is why I felt uncomfortable when OP told Anon "It's just words on a screen" and "If someone reads the fic and thinks its an accurate representation of IRL, then that is their issue."
Sadly, the world is not that black and white. In recent years, especially online, people have had issues realizing that 2 things can be true at the same time. In this case it would mean that; yes, the fan-work is fiction. But that doesn't mean that the improper depiction of the characters don't have real life consequences.
One of the real life examples I can use are Minstrel Shows. One of the first original forms of entertainment in the U.S., they were also fictional depictions of African Americans. [I am not going into detail about Minstrel Shows here. If you want, there are about 100 videos on YT which can explain in greater detail.]
Minstrel shows were always fiction. The actors were aware and their audiences were aware. However, this did not stop the audience from viewing the performances as an accurate representation of African Americans. For a lot of Americans, these performances were their only interaction with Black people.
[And before anyone tries to say 'It's 2026, theres no way that would happen now.' I once had a discord friend who, after being online friends for nearly 3 years, found out I was Black. Their response was then 'OMG really?! I've never really met a black person before.' Before then proceeding to ask some less than comfortable questions. While typically common in rural areas, this can also occur in more white dominated affluent areas as well. So yes, it happens]
For some, their only interaction with black people comes from online media. Which also means, fanfiction. If you, an author, are informed that something in your work MAY be offensive (In the case of this author). Then I cannot agree with 'Oh just ignore the commenter'. Because although harassment is NEVER alright, especially in fandom. Sometimes, you may be in the wrong.
Yes, ao3 being anti-censor ship allows you to write whatever you want. But if you know what you wrote about a certain character is dead wrong and is offensive to someone apart of the marginalized group. Then why would you keep in in your fic. Not saying take the fic down, but at least make the necessary edits. What ever you wrote about the character cannot be that intergral to the plot that you can't fix it in a few lines.
When Black people in fandom talk about the racism they face on line. This is a key example. If when marginalized groups speak out about certain works making them feel uncomfortable (I am only speaking about racism here. Nothing else at the moment.) you respond with 'its just words on a page' then you are part of the problem.
Words on a page come from somewhere. They come from prejudice, and they come from bias. If you don't want to change the way you approach your creations of works, fine. But don't be upset when those same marginalized groups decide not to support your works.
