Got a guy on my Facebook who was a high school classmate(real rich kid) who was smart and went to UC Berkeley.

Why does forgiveness = going to Harvard?
Once you’ve sinned, no matter how long ago or how you’ve changed, or how remorseful your are over that sin (publicly in this case), you’re dead to them. This is a kid who made shock comments in a private conversation that was kids trying to one-up each other over who could be the most offensive. Not sure that proves he’s a racist, just proves he was a dumb teenager. Is Harvard checking every single one of their applicant’s backgrounds like this? Why do I unequivocally doubt they are?

2. Why are you acting like it was something he did 5, 10 years ago? It was roughly 20 MONTHS ago and no one has shown evidence he has actually changed

Age 16 to age 18 can be a pretty large leap in maturation, esp. considering the traumatic experience and subsequent public sphere Kashuv has entered. Kashuv made an immediate public apology and appeared to be sincere in his stance that he would not have so again. Unless Harvard is willing to implement this standard upon all of their students than it’s arguably discrimination against a conservative individual. As far as your 3rd point you’re accusing the individual of motive without knowing their motive, you’re assigning them the crime without looking at any of the circumstances. By this standard you’d also call John Barrowman a Nazi because he had a cameo in The Producers.
If this was honestly about finding racists than why have the other people in the private googledoc not been identified and their own college dreams snatched away? Forgiveness does not mean a lack of consequences, but there is also such a thing in legal terms as statute of limitations. If we look at libel laws there’s an average of two years, arguably close to that barrier being 20-24mo ago. As far as what Harvard has proven: remorse is not valued by the modern campus left. The next time someone is accused of this, the response is not going to be “I’m sorry for being a dumb-ass teenager.”
His age, his trauma and the public sphere he has entered is not proof he has actually changed. If anything the fact that he has chosen to work with a conservative organization that has a history of racism (TPUSA) rather than a conservative organization that does not have that history is recent proof he hasnt changed that much. The sincerity of his apology is subjective. I think he is simply apologizing to get back into Harvard and that he pushed blame on his age when his age isnt an excuse. Alot of 16 year olds never have and never will do what he did.

Yes….TPUSA (a group I don’t wholly agree with but they have a right to speak) has a history of racism…..totally……quick hide the video where Charlie Kirk hosts a panel in which everyone except him happens to be a person of color because those were the students who set the TPUK event up.

Harvard is a private institution and can do what it wants, but there will also be consequences for their actions. Yes I am quite sure there will be conservative donors that are upset Kashuv is being held accountable for his actions - the same way 10 students were 2 years ago at Harvard for similar behavior - and will speak with their money. No what has been shown is even if you apologize your actions have consequences. Even if I believed he had changed and was remorseful I would still agree with Harvard’s decision. Actions have consequences. It is a lesson everyone needs to learn.

Yes….TPUSA (a group I don’t wholly agree with but they have a right to speak) has a history of racism…..totally……quick hide the video where Charlie Kirk hosts a panel in which everyone except him happens to be a person of color because those were the students who set the TPUK event up.

Harvard is a private institution and can do what it wants, but there will also be consequences for their actions. I’m sure there’s conservative Alumni donors that will be keeping tabs on the situation and other situations college administrations continue to overlook when it pertains to conservative students.

Yes I am quite sure there will be conservative donors that are upset Kashuv is being held accountable for his actions - the same way 10 students were 2 years ago at Harvard for similar behavior - and will speak with their money. Just like I am sure there are conservative donors that will keep donating because they actually believe they are the party of "personal responsibility" and think Kashuv got what he deserved.

But there’s more to the problem of this becoming applauded and how it goes along with this outrage culture in which everyone will try to dig up the absolute worst dirt on people just because they don’t like them. This was in large part an online pressurized thing based off of what appears to be a project message group 2 years ago from what I understand. “Edgy” humour from teenage boys isn’t new or uncommon, and making stupid jokes like that to get a rise out of your friends doesn’t make you racist. If every teenager is going to have their behaviour and dumb humour shape the rest of their lives the world will very soon run out of college graduates. Kids are stupid, and they change.
I mean it’s one thing if he was/is involved with racist groups, or has made serious comments to bring into question his views on racial equality, but all I’ve seen anyone cite for this are a teenager’s dumb jokes.

Does anybody have any idea the amount of kids who have been accepted and admitted into college for as long as college has existed who have done things like this and even worse? Got a guy on my Facebook who was a high school classmate(real rich kid) who was smart and went to UC Berkeley.
His father hired him(figures) after his dabbling in solar panels ended and now he spends most of his time virtue signaling on social media about how we shouldn’t use whatever terms, words, etc.
This kid was Mr. Edgy all through high school. He would call women whores regularly in between quoting Mr Burns from the Simpsons. He would also say ever racial slur you could think of to get a reaction and laugh obnoxiously about it.
If you ask him now, he will swear all up and down that he never did and always practiced what he’s preaching now.

Once you’ve sinned, no matter how long ago or how you’ve changed, or how remorseful your are over that sin (publicly in this case), you’re dead to them. This is a kid who made shock comments in a private conversation that was kids trying to one-up each other over who could be the most offensive. Not sure that proves he’s a racist, just proves he was a dumb teenager. Is Harvard checking every single one of their applicant’s backgrounds like this? Why do I unequivocally doubt they are?

Age 16 to age 18 can be a pretty large leap in maturation, esp. considering the traumatic experience and subsequent public sphere Kashuv has entered. Kashuv made an immediate public apology and appeared to be sincere in his stance that he would not have so again. Unless Harvard is willing to implement this standard upon all of their students than it’s arguably discrimination against a conservative individual. As far as your 3rd point you’re accusing the individual of motive without knowing their motive, you’re assigning them the crime without looking at any of the circumstances. By this standard you’d also call John Barrowman a Nazi because he had a cameo in The Producers.
If this was honestly about finding racists than why have the other people in the private googledoc not been identified and their own college dreams snatched away? Forgiveness does not mean a lack of consequences, but there is also such a thing in legal terms as statute of limitations. If we look at libel laws there’s an average of two years, arguably close to that barrier being 20-24mo ago. As far as what Harvard has proven: remorse is not valued by the modern campus left. The next time someone is accused of this, the response is not going to be “I’m sorry for being a dumb-ass teenager.”
His age, his trauma and the public sphere he has entered is not proof he has actually changed. If anything the fact that he has chosen to work with a conservative organization that has a history of racism (TPUSA) rather than a conservative organization that does not have that history is recent proof he hasnt changed that much. The sincerity of his apology is subjective. I think he is simply apologizing to get back into Harvard and that he pushed blame on his age when his age isnt an excuse. Alot of 16 year olds never have and never will do what he did.
