Ben Solo marketing
They released the comics right before the premiere which made it clear that Ben Solo did not destroyed the Jedi Temple and did not kill any jedi student. He just wanted to get home. And that certain night when Luke tried to hurt his nephew, Luke Skywalker was indeed under the influence of Palpatine.
All of these meant to prepare the audience for the “ Redemption ” and Ben Solo’s happy life…
Before JJ Abrams and his crew changed and destroyed everything. JJ Abrams and Chris T. changed, rewrote and undone everything has been set up since TFA//TLJ.
Why was this done? No, seriously, is there any reason for this apart from their being psychopaths? Is this an attempt to put all the blame on RJ? But by now anyone with a half a brain can see that TROS is deeply flawed and that its flaws have nothing to do with TLJ or RJ. What was the purpose? WHAT HAPPENED, DISNEY???
THIS!☝️ This is why I say that all this situation was sadistic, for me, for other adults, for the kids!
Adding to the tragic tale of Ben Solo….
It was established that Sidious had a thing for collecting force sensitive children (both during the clone wars era and during Rebels) and experimenting on them to turn them to the dark side. Then he used them as spies.
He targeted children…and after the Skywalkers defeated him he targeted, groomed, manipulated, abused and essentially collected Ben from inside the womb to the point if betrayal by Luke. It was revenge and tatical.
Ben was swayed to the dark side since he was a child and used against his own family, Sidious most serious threat to power.
All of this.
One of the things that frustrates me is the hate that certain individuals must have felt for victims. And I believe it *was* hate, because it was entirely within their power to design TROS such that Ben was a better person. Instead, they wrote and portrayed him as badly as they could within the constraints they had and then killed him off with no fanfare so they could free Rey from his influence.
The makers of TROS were presented with a character perfectly poised to be redeemed, to become strong in himself, to be a better person and to be the manly man in charge of his own destiny/whatever the antis wanted in a character. The makers of TROS could have written him so that he was no longer the character they hated. But they didn’t. There is a lot of malevolent intention there.
Put in the same movie where:
Rose was sidelined
Finn’s relationship with Rose was MIA
They found time for new male characters and aliens, but not established ones
They mocked the Holdo maneuver
They showed porgs shivering and sooty
Rey Palpatine
Leia died to distract her son so Rey could kill him?
The Force Ghosts talked to Rey but not Ben?
Rey Skywalker?
Rey buries the lightsabers on Tatooine
Ren ends alone
Luke/Leia incesty vibes
Kylo Ren was only redeemed in his head/can never take back what he did (but … Rey can?)
Parents sold their child into slavery with an abuser in order to protect her? Also, to protect her from WHAT? From becoming all-powerful empress of the galaxy? Thanks a LOT, Mom and Dad!
Anyway, with all the other bizarre directions the movie went, treating Ben as they did doesn’t look accidental. It looks targeted and intentional, to kill and mistreat this character precisely because he’s been victimized.
An amazing detail about TLJ #23380918590: Luke has part of the crystal of Klyo’s lightsaber which is why it’s broken, which is some beautiful symbolism of their relationship. Thank you Rian Johnson
What’s heartbreaking about this moment is that it could’ve been extremely powerful and moving (whether it shows the Jedi physically or not) but how can you find any joy in it when Ben was just thrown down a pit and left alone while this is happening? Basically, everything they’re telling her is what’s been implied was supposed to happen with Ben. He is the last Skywalker, he’s Han & Leia’s son, Luke’s nephew, Anakin’s grandson, he’s named after Obi-Wan, he knows who all of these Jedi are and has a deep connection to them. Not that Rey shouldn’t be given this message from them too, she should, because even more so it’s been implied that their message is supposed to happen to Rey and Ben TOGETHER. They’re supposed to be the balance, two becoming one. She already knew she was not alone. They both found and confided in one another so how much more powerful would it had been if they were reaching out to both Rey and Ben, reinforcing that they’re not alone because they have each other in the flesh but they also have the rest of them by their sides through the force. Giving them both the acceptance & affirmation they've been searching for their whole lives of who they are, where they belong, and the ability to find the balance within themselves as well as together.
star wars prequels: a summary
Why Kylo Ren/Ben Solo and Theon Greyjoy are similar, beautifully grey and real characters that represent overcoming abuse and manipulation and it makes no sense to love one but hate the other, a thread:
*Disclaimer* I have only watched the GoT series & SW movies, I have not read the books or comics for either series but I have done research into both so anything I’m pulling that’s not from the movies or show has been taken from research/information I have gathered from others who have used these sources for their own opinions/arguments/statements as well as from a GoT class I took my senior year of college
The Force Awakens (2015) / The Last Jedi (2017) / The Rise of Skywalker (2019)
I edited the last reylo scene of TROS in accordance to what a lot of people are theorizing is the original sequence of events (Ben revives Rey, he dies, Leia uses her life force to bring him back [this could explain why Maz is smiling], Rey’s shocked/relieved, then they kiss). I also added in ‘Across the Stars’ by John Williams.
Alfie Allen is a winner even without an Emmy (long post - because it has to be written haha)
It baffles me how this actor didn't get the recognition he deserves. Looking at his Wikipedia page is saddening because he hasn't won ANY award for putting his heart and soul into a character for 8 long seasons. All I can is, to me, an award can be complimentary to one's career but is not necessary to validate an actor's ability and passion for his work. He is a winner by gracing the work itself and giving his best each and every single time. He is a winner because:
1. He accepted the role even if it wasn't what he was aiming for + even if he knew about the challenging part (esp. the torture aspect) of it.
2. He accepted a role that was easier for viewers to dislike/hate (and eventually, there had been some negativity thrown at him esp. during the earlier seasons). He had said that he made it a point not to read stuff online for his own sanity.
3. He empathized with the character to be able to portray it with as much soul as he could possibly show on screen. And this led him to being concerned and interested about men's mental health.
4. He portrayed every angle and side of Theon CONVINCINGLY and EFFECTIVELY.
5. He carried all the hate thrown at his character on his shoulders to the point of him saying in an interview that he wished he had been more open about it (that he was struggling with the role at a certain time) and that there had been "dark moments".
6. He researched beyond what was expected of him as an actor. He researched about dog behavior , Stockholm's syndrome, and discovered things such as how prolonged captivity affects a person's voice (to add colour to his portayal of Reek).
7. S1 Theon and S8 Theon. See the huge difference?
8. He understood that Theon, as a character, is an opportunity to talk about serious and important things such as belongingness, identity, choices, decisions, PTSD, mental and emotional issues, family, male ego, toxic masculinity, etc.
9. His fellow actors and GOT crew recognized his talent time and time again. (There are lots of compliments for him in the cast/crew commentaries)
10. He's nice to his fans, at times even making fun of his own character to light things up.
11. He was careful even with the simplest bits of acting like changing Theon's posture (to show his change in demeanor), projecting his pinky finger a certain way (the one that was cut off), and slouching one part of his shoulder and looking at Ramsay wide-eyed (in the bath scene to show how broken an Theon-less he was).
I had seen one comment on social media saying something like "Stuttering and looking scared 24/7 doesn't make an actor good" and Oh how I wish that I can smash a piano (jk)
Nope! He is a great actor not just because of stuttering, trembling in fear, screaming or whatever. Nah! He's a great actor because he portrayed Theon in every scene EFFECTIVELY and with many colors to it.
- He portrayed "fear" on different levels: fear that makes one shudder (kennels), fear that makes one want to explode but has no more courage so he shuts himself up (shaving scene).
- He portrayed "decision-making" with many layers to it. That it makes one return to his inner conflict & curse the gods (identity/conversation with Maestre Luwin). That it boils down to one's conquest (Stark vs Greyjoy/convo with Jon Snow). That it makes one think twice but discreetly (showing the burnt corpses).
- He portrayed "suffering" from different angles: scary, disgusting, hopeless, soul-crushing, barely-hanging-there, and slowly rising from it.
12. He understood Theon so much that when asked what death could have fitted the character, he said "drowning". *Applause* which makes sense because Theon is ironborn, from Pyke, and most importantly, his sister told him "Don't die too far from the sea". Drowning could have been a more emotional death (sorry that I'm talking about this!) because it (painfully/deeply/a bit morbidly) points back to his IDENTITY which is actually the anchor of his character arc.
13. Alfie (w/the help of the story itself and the entire crew ofc) took us to a journey and so, when S8 happened, it was beautiful and we rooted for Theon because he, in the end, portrayed the character with the CULMINATION of his entire story arc: a man who "died" and through it, has finally found himself, and bearing his house's "What is dead may never die" even in the very face of death itself.
Yup, Alfie is a winner...
and all the Kraken/octopus/squid/sharks/and dolphins say "YUP YUP!"
Yes. Just yes.
Damn hearing my fav talk about and praise my other fav hits hard. Mac deserved to feel good about everything he did and Kells does too😞
Alfie Allen’s true eye colors … because they aren’t just sea-green. He has both a limbal ring (the dark-colored ring surrounding the iris) and central heterochromia (the central part of the iris is a band of golden-brown). Very unique, and so darn pretty.
Not to be dramatic but we literally have the same eyes
