I am having FEELINGS about one certain line from Frankenstein (2025), and I need to talk about them immediatley or else I will spotnaneously combust.
"I am obscene to you, but to myself, I simply am."
As a queer, neurodivergent, and non-cisgender person, this fucking resonates. Trans people, drag queens, and queer people are demonized by politics and the media, accused of being pedophiles, or straight up murdered. But we're not trying to "groom" children or "impose" our beleifs onto anyone. We're just trying to survive and live our lives.
We are obscene to them, but to ourselves, we simply are.
In summary: Frankenstein (2025) really said, "You thought you were just getting another reimagining/adaption of Frankenstein's monster? WRONG. We are going to bring up all of your internalized emotions about being someone different in a society that will never fully, truly, understand or accept you for who you are and drag them to the surface, along with some of the most gorgeous cinematography and incredible acting perforamnces you've ever seen."
And I think that's beautiful.
Just rewatched Frankenstein (2025), and thinking more about the necessity to have that moment of forgiveness for both Victor and the creature.
They've likely spent months chasing after each other- Victor seeking to unmake the creature to erase the evidence of his perceived failures, perhaps to atone for what he sees as having unleashed an abomination onto the world. The creature leading him on a fruitless pursuit, staying true to his words: " You may be my creator, but from this day forward, I will be your master".
It's clear that while Victor may think he is pursuing the creature, the creature holds the power here. He cannot die, cannot be meaningfully harmed physically. This is how he gets his retribution, how he forces Victor to acknowledge him. "You only listen when I hurt you".
But when it's clear that the journey has reached its inevitable end, that Victor is dying, the creature has to confront that the chase has ended. No more revenge, nothing left. If his creator, the cause of so much of his suffering, is dying, what is left to fight against? What is left to live for when you've spent so long living to spite the person who hurt you?
For so long, they are both consumed by their hatred and resentment for each other, but the fighting can't last forever. However justified that hatred is, it won't serve them to cling to it in death. When the creature forgives Victor, it isn't to absolve Victor- it's to free himself.
When he finally steps into the sun, he does so with a weight finally lifted from his shoulders. All he can do is live, and so he will.
The creature at some point in part 2 of Frankenstein (2025):
imagine having a best friend you love so much to the point where you not only do a tv series together but also go make a stand-up show just so you can still be together even when not shooting for the said tv show. and to top it all off you guys share a name.
that's what Martin Short and Steven Martin have been doing for decades.

Only one person died. Only one singular person. In a superhero movie! The type that love to throw around casualty counts like it’s all a big game, waving off 70 people being killed in a handful of days like it’s no big deal, yet only ONE PERSON died.
And he was mourned. Superman cried for him—this stranger who gave him free falafel and, while facing death, told him that he still believed in him. Metamorpho, this cold-seeming man who is being actively blackmailed to do this, breaking down and taking the risk to believe in Superman, too, because seeing someone murdered right in front of him is devastating enough to take the risk. The newspapers run a front page article talking about how they’re going to memorialize him.
The stakes didn’t have to involve real actual loss of life. The threat of it was enough to convey the severity of the situation. Because human life is that important. All life is that important, at least to Superman who goes out of his way to save dogs and squirrels.
(Hawkgirl does kill SHEIN Netanyahu but genocidal dictators don’t count as human beings lol.)
James Gunn’s thesis statement for his Superman is simple and effective: "Be good. Do good. Be human despite the bad things. That is the most punk rock thing in a world so stoic and cynical."
And that’s how it should be. That’s beautiful, the new Superman movie is beautiful.

Fungus has done so much for humanity. Penicillin. Radiation cleanup. Delicious mushrooms. Deadly mushrooms. Psychadelic mushrooms. And now my boy RA has chosen the humble mold spores as his vessel through which to cure cancer.

Sabrina Carpenter’s new album cover is so tame. Y’all HATE to see a woman expressing sexuality or any type of bdsm/dom-sub dynamic because you automatically think “anti-feminism” or “infantilization”. This argument is actually setting us years back. Some women have a thing for getting hit or having their hair pulled CONSENSUALLY. (Me included lol) But that doesn’t mean they advocate for abusive relationships or that happening to people who don’t want that for themselves.
LET A GIRL BE HORNY AND SLUTTY IN PEACE DAMN!!
Woman: *does something sexual*
Tumblr users: Yas, queen! *applause*
The same woman: *does something sexual but this time she's being "submissive" *
Tumblr users: okay but this is actually super problematic because she hasn't earned enough feminists bingo points
Everyone say it with me, "just because a woman is expressing her sexuality does not mean she's setting back women's rights. It does not mean she's playing into the patriarchy. It means that she's expressing her sexuality"
