SO I HAD TO MOVE

Ok so long story short, i got booted out of my tumblr for some security reasons or some shit. And it told me that i needed to reset my password. which normally wouldn't be a problem, except to do that, you need to go into the email connected to your account. and the email that was connected to my account was my school email for the school that i transferred out of. so it's been deactivated for 5 years. i tried everything i could to get it back, but it's been a month and i haven't had any luck SO i remade I am now chaibosh.tumblr.com And the only reason i can even put this out is because i am still able to log in to my old one on the app. But the app sucks man i cant live like this

OK. SO. Pokemon.

i just saw the trailer for the new games (american one is here, japanese one is here and it honestly made me cry because it’s so sweet) We’ve got another new region which i’m super hyped for because it looks amazing, and more character customization!! Yay!

and man idk what starter i wanna pick! I’m usually super biased towards water types but im just...not really feeling the new water starter? idk maybe it’ll evolve into something cool, kinda like oshawott, but for now i’m exploring other options. 

the new grass starter is so cute omg i wanna hug it, and the fire starter is super cool too...I kinda wanna go with that one and name it Kato...

ANYWHO, those legendaries look super rad as well, I’m likin the space bat thing that moon has goin on. So i’m probably gonna go with moon

the "general step-mom": very organised, does things ASAP, constantly reminds you of the work you need to do, loves to say i told you so when your stupid ass keeps on postponing said homework until it's almost too late, also checks in to make sure that you managed on time. quote: "have you started on the homework yet?"

the "head-in-the-clouds genius": never knows what the fuck is going on, doesn't come to most classes, always has to get reminded about homework and deadlines (repeatedly for the same thing as well), always manages to pass all the exams with pretty high grades in the end. quote: "homework?????? what homework?????"

the "duty-bound procrastinator": knows exactly what the fuck is going on, does nothing about the things that need to be done, always finds something else to do instead, feels anxious for postponing all of it, does everything the last second and says it's never going to happen again (a lie). quote: "fuck, homework. i'll, uh, start right after i finish with this movie marathon."

I’m increasingly convinced that the real problem with the “Mary Sue” trope has nothing to do with fiction as such.

If you look at the types of characters who are popularly decried as “Mary Sues”, it’s not strictly that they’re good at something, but that they’re good at something without justification. Any sphere of competence exhibited by a female character must explicitly be justified within the narrative as something she “should” be good at, in a way that satisfies some arbitrary threshold of plausibility, or else she’s a “Mary Sue”.

In short, female characters are assumed to be incompetent by default.

But then, isn’t that exactly how we treat women in real life? Excepting a few narrow spheres of “women’s interests”, ignorance and incompetence are treated as the default attributes of femininity pretty much across the board. A woman practically has to pull out a goddamn PhD to be credited with the same level of knowledge and skill in a given sphere that would be expected of any random man off the street, and sometimes even that won’t suffice.

Basically, the problem isn’t that female characters in media have to pass some special test in order for us to accept that they’re allowed to be good at something. The problem is that female characters in media have to pass exactly the same test that women in real life do.
