Zuko firebending with airbender style footwork.

The fancy footwork Zuko has going on here is akin to the type of footwork used for airbending–or bagua, which is what airbending is based on. That is to say that that Zuko is being very quick and agile. That, and the way his body is positioned throughout this short sequence and the way his body moves when dodgeing Katara’s attacks is very reminiscent of bagua. 

And look at those dodges! Nice evasive maneuvering, Zuko! That’s very airbender-y.

It teaches students of the bagua martial arts style (the martial arts style behind airbending) how to employ “circle walking,” which is frequently used in bagua.

Here’s a video demonstration:

I’m willing to bet that Zuko unknowingly learned a crude version of circle walking during his “Bato of the Water Tribe” fight with Aang and ended up using it in his fight with Katara in “The Siege of the North.”
