Back on my Dakota Cole loving. I miss him. My sweet boy. Thinking about him feeling like he's not strong enough so he runs away to get stronger. Always the weight of the world with him. I am so miserable
I miss my sons. I mostly miss Dakota. Wiwi i get to see every once in a while in UPP, without his character growth from PD ofc, and i miss Vyncent and his credit card debt, but DAMN do i miss Dakota.
There's something so hopeful about his character, even when the situations in Prime got intense or hard. From his wielding the giant sword to giving his heart to wiwi to how he reacted to the greyscale arc with such kindness. Idk man. He had been through so much himself. He lost his parents young, he watched his aunt struggle with addiction, he lost a close friend and nearly died himself. But he still is cheery. He still shows up for the people he loves and believes in the good and has hope for the world.
And maybe I just feel like I need to feel that hope again. But damn. I miss Dakota.
God especially that scene in s2 e34 where William admits to what happened in BellTech WAHHHH
This whole quote:
"I know what it's like to make a mistake and be the cause of someone's death... but all I can see right now is you're falling. And I don't want to let someone- I don't want to let you two fall too far to where you can't come back. I don't want to fail to save a friend again. So I'm trying to catch you guys. So don't let go okay?"
and then the
"I don't know what to do, but I want to carry it with you"
ohh babyyy :(((( His "I fucking hate this, but I love you two" Fuck man. I love this little guy so much.
would you be down to yap about some of the songs you put into the Norah playlist and what your thoughts about them were?
i love the playlist i think it’s absolutely brilliant. whenever Free Treasure by Adrianne Lenker starts playing i get hurt /pos. “do you wanna go to the river” MILOMUMBLES AUAUUHGG:(((
ahhh id love 2...
UNWITNESS PROTECTION PROGRAM SPOILERS AHEAD!!! BEWARE!!!!
usually when i build character playlists im doing it with two goals in mind - choosing music that they would listen to, and lyrical significance
with norah in particular, despite her being a flautist and generally meek, quiet and non confrontational, she has desires and needs that aren't being met that are best represented through grungy rock and slow paced, meticulous melody; especially through acoustic picking. most of this playlist is very guitar forward, and often have a blown out, crunchy sound, or a disconnected floaty ambience that feel very deadwood to me. there's also influence from genres that i think the other characters would have introduced to her.
equally important to me, the lyrics have to represent the character in mind. obviously not every song will be 100% perfect, but there's often very obvious calls to her. ill give a few examples:
ANYONE CAN PLAY GUITAR - RADIOHEAD
I want to be in a band when I get to heaven
And anyone can play guitar and they won't be a nothing anymore
i've always associated this with her attempt + how unfulfilled she feels on her academic track. there's a lot of songs in this playlist that reference suicide, but i think this one is most representative of her escapist fantasy of joining a band and dropping the perfect student persona
DAGGER - SLOWDIVE
The world is full of noise yeah
I hear it all the time
And me I am your dagger
You know I am your wound
I thought I heard you whisper
It happens all the time
specifically i associate this with her and william. mostly to do with the words noise + whisper, but also her tendency to be at the head of physical danger because of her difficulty with communication
entire songs sometimes completely align with her or the entire UPP team, for example:
Gnaw - Alex G: descriptions of childhood, occult, and communal secrecy (especially from adults)
Mass Anesthesia - Mediavolo: this is how i imagine UPP feels about the general population of deadwood's lack of awareness to the horrors they've encountered
Music Box - Leith Ross: despite this song's exterior being a calming lullaby, the lyrics stuck with me and have always been twisted into a creepily-calm recounting of mysteries they've solved
Free Treasure - Adrianne Lenker: yes, do you want to go to the river is maybe the most brutal way to start this song and a large part of why it was an immediate choice, but it also captures the calm and good of norah's life and interests- the love and care she found in her only group of friends and the importance of community, when otherwise occupied with unhelpful thoughts and feelings
15 Step - Radiohead: i mean man. what can i say. the pressures of being a perfect student and overachiever combined with depression, anxiety, late diagnosed autism and self doubt. being suddenly hit with every roadblock imaginable and going "what happened to the old me, where did i go wrong?"
there's some music on this playlist that i added recently that i cant even explain the meaning behind because the episodes arent out yet - but this was fun to write and i hope it gave some fun insight into her character and how i play her :)
With the recent changes to Fandom Metatags, a new change is coming to the way the Just Roll With It (Podcast) fandom on AO3 is structured as well! The old fandom tag will remain, no worries, but now all the various campaigns and one-shots will now have their own fandoms underneath it!
The Just Roll With It (Podcast) fandom tag now functions in much the same way that a fandom tag such as Dragon Age - All Media Types does in relation to the fandom tags for each piece of individual Dragon Age media, such as Dragon Age (Video Games) and Dragon Age (Tabletop RPG).
This means that people who want to tag or search for JRWI as a whole can still do that, but now people who would like to be more specific in their tagging can specify exactly which campaign they're writing about in the fandom field!
These are the new fandom tags that will be joining our Just Roll With It (Podcast) tag at this time:
Just Roll With It: The Fated | Campaign One (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: Convergence (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: Riptide & Related Fandoms
Just Roll With It: Tales from the Midnight Rose (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: Riptide (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: Prime Defenders & Related Fandoms
Just Roll With It: Resurgence | The Age of Heroes (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: Prime Defenders (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: The Elementals (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: Unwitness Protection Program (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: Mythborne (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: Apotheosis (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: Monster Control Service (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: Blood in the Bayou (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: The Suckening (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: Total Monster Kill (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: Wonderlust (Podcast)
Just Roll With It: Judgement (Podcast)
Hopefully this change will be a boon to many and no obstacle to the people who prefer the old system! If you'd like to know more about this change and how it affects tagging and filtering, we've addressed some potential concerns under the cut! Happy Riptide Saturday and let's just roll with it!
How does this affect searching for works in Just Roll With It (Podcast)?
Since the new campaign tags are all subtags of Just Roll With It (Podcast), this means that searching the Just Roll With It (Podcast) fandom will also bring up all Campaign tags underneath it in search. So if you tag only for Just Roll With It: Riptide (Podcast) for example, people searching for works in the Just Roll With It (Podcast) tag will still be able to find your works!
Does this mean that works tagged with multiple JRWI fandoms count as Crossovers?
Nope! With how subtagging fandoms works, this means that tagging for Just Roll With It (Podcast) and a campaign fandom tag, or even multiple of the JRWI fandom tags together will not count as a crossover for the purposes of the Include/Exclude Crossovers search function. This is pretty much the same as how it functioned before as one fandom. However, you can now also exclude specific campaigns in the fandom field if you'd like.
Will the new tags get added automatically to my works?
These changes only affect works that tag for campaigns in the fandom field. If you'd like your works to be tagged with one of these new fandom tags, you'll have to add or update the fandom tags on your works yourself. If you have a lot of works to edit like this, go to My Works > Edit Works, select all the works you want to add tags to, and then clicking "Edit" will let you add tags to multiple works at once.
I tagged my works with the Campaign additional tags. Does that get affected by this?
Since tags cannot be made synonyms across categories, the previous campaign additional tags will be remaining as a legacy format. Whether a work has used the campaign additional tags won't affect whether they show up in the new fandom tags filters, and vice versa. You are welcome to continue using those additional tags in addition to tagging your works with new fandoms, instead of retagging your works as you like, or remove them entirely as suits your preferences.
(From time to time, ao3org posts announcements of recent or upcoming wrangling changes on behalf of the Tag Wrangling Committee.)
I know it's overall important for ao3 to not limit what goes on their site, it's just that sometimes you'll find an author writing the most eggregious piece of garbage purely about someone inflicting violence towards a woman who actually exists and you just have to scroll past it and sit with the fact that someone thought about that happening to a stranger enough to where they wrote thousands of words describing it
