@kandoros
listening to CDs in the kitchen i always brace myself for the ad between songs but then it just keeps rolling. skipping around how i like without interruption feels heavenly. we're in such a commercial angst prison that books and CDs are luxury now 😭
protect, pass on, thrift, gift, and store physical media, it's worth it
I understand and agree with the general point.
But ... some of you are not as old as I am, and enjoyed a higher quality of literature, because there were ads in books:
That's a example I pulled off some reddit post, I'm not digging through my dad's old shitty westerns to find my own.
Explore a place in a more immersive way in Google Maps.
If Fallout 6 gets set in Seattle that needs to be a raider base.
letting family members sit in for dead senators is just monarchy logic im appalled that this has even happened before
Each state gets to decide how their state is represented in Congress
This has been a common method for a long time in some states
The idea is that a Senator's sibling/spouse/parent/child knows their intentions and policies better than a political rival or a random person would. It's a pretty good way to prevent political assassinations tbh
An unelected individual getting grandfathered into a real political position due to their blood or legal relationship with a deceased elected official is not pretty good actually
Like we have succession plans for a reason. You can have a vice chair, a protege, literally anything that isn’t “some relative”
The average age of a US senator is old enough that they qualify for free coffee at McDonalds.
They're at the point in life where they should have wills and medical powers of attorney and advance directives.
The idea that they can't take five minutes to jot down "Here's the list, in order, of three people I want to take over my position if my aorta explodes" is irresponsible to the point where it should be disqualifying.
The latest from the Heritage Foundation
In a move that should surprise nobody, the authors of Project 2025 have come up with a new position regarding trans rights.
Previously, they said that trans athletes should be banned from sports in order to protect cisgender women.
They have updated that argument to now claiming cisgender women - specifically and primarily their menstrual cycles - will be best protected by banning them from sports as well.
Which, the author notes, will have the added benefit of protecting profits from college men's sports programs.
Turns out it was about women’s sports all along—if getting rid of women's sports counts, that is.
The political party that wants to ban transgender people from the military has just announced a policy of mandatory gender-affirming care, but only for cisgender men, of course:
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth on Wednesday announced a new effort to annually screen service members’ testosterone levels and offer testosterone replacement therapy (TRT), framing it as a way to keep troops on the “leading edge of lethality.”
https://thehill.com/policy/defense/5969935-hegseth-testosterone-testing-dod/
Sort of like how every time some state passes a law banning gender affirming care for minors, a democrat will propose an amendment "You're including breast implants for girls into this aren't you?", and it always gets voted down.
Because it's only gender-affirming care if it helps transgender people. If it's about cisgender men getting boners it's just sparkling bigotry.
Might want to come up with a plan b.
The most famous (if such a word should even be applied to such things) shadow from Hiroshima was about two-tenths of a mile from the center of the blast. One of the other shadows on the wikipedia page was from a piece of machinery at a distance of a mile and a half.
But that was an atomic bomb was only 15 kilotons. The kind of thermonuclear weapons that would be shot at an air force base would start off at around 100 kilotons.
So while you may be close enough to create a shadow on the wall, it's only be there for a few literal shakes of a lambs tail before the wall was gone too.
you’ve seen project Hail Mary???? Oh my gosh I love Rocky in your style!!!
well now i just havee to draw more rocky in my style

Evolution is Just Another Lie to Steer You Away From a Creator.
"Many people do not know that while we do have single cell life forms that we call bacteria we have no two cell life forms we don't have three cell life forms we don't have four cell life forms we don't even have five cell life forms"
So a lot of things wrong with even just that single point:
Bacteria are unicellular, but not all unicellular organisms are bacteria. The most defining features of bacteria are that they are single celled and lack internal structures. They share those features with archaea (and the two are grouped together as prokaryotes). There are also single celled organisms that do have internal structures, called eukaryoates, which are neither bacteria nor archaea. Examples of those include algae and yeast. The guy you're citing doesn't even get the most basic terminology right. He may as well be saying we call geometric objects that have four sides of equal length 'squares'.
Bacteria are unicellular, but they can group together to form biofilms that share nutrients and protect each other, which could be an early step towards multicellular organisms.
There are organisms that while they are unicellular are usually found in pairs, such as streptococcus. Again, this could be a very early example of life that exists only in a multicellular form.
Four celled organisms also exist. An example is tetrabaena, which comes as a colony of four algae cells.
Tag yourself as this list of “bad art” features, according to a twitter fascist
“Never Forget” until the new target is those that they disagree with.
Edit: please watch this video essay by Jacob Geller. It speaks on really important points as to how “bad art” is a weapon of fascism and how it reflects the Degenerate Art Exhibition(s)
Hey, it's the second time today I get to share this video series. This episode includes that art exhibit:
The other instance was a response to someone who said that it looked like ICE raids and murders had cooled down a bit for the world cup, and I got to point out "Yeah, that's what the Nazis did for the 1936 Berlin Olympics."
I don't understand how this is even a defence in the age of drone warfare.
Or even like... Cannon warfare.
Yeah, the Ottomans could have taken this in the fourteenth century.
So in addition to all the tactical problems the Ottomans could take advantage of, here's something I noticed.
Look at the shadows, and then look at where the solar panels are. Your electrical generation is going to be in the shade half the day. Plus it's taking up 'valuable' acreage inside your compound. Why not put it on the roof of the house instead?
Plus that house is nowhere big enough for the amount of manpower needed for this place. At a minimum you'd need at least four guards in the towers, and then people for them to be guarding. Because sitting on a post is not a productive way to garden.
The lord of this manor is going to end up sleeping in climate controlled comfort while his serfs are using cots in uninsulated, poorly ventilated, poorly lit, shipping containers. Which are probably offgassing poisonous fumes because I doubt he sprung for the ones without pressure treated wood in the flooring.
This guy doesn't need to worry about raiders. He needs to be on the lookout for a peasants revolt.
The latest episode of Tasting History includes a story about how some POW's who escaped from a German camp were starving. They had a D ration chocolate bar ... and tried to eat raw snails first.
"The dwarf bread was brought out for inspection. But it was miraculous, the dwarf bread. No one ever went hungry when they had some dwarf bread to avoid. You only had to look at it for a moment, and instantly you could think of dozens of things you'd rather eat. Your boots, for example. Mountains. Raw sheep. Your own foot"
As someone who was in the military, I can respect Dave's antipathy and dedication to avoid Mandatory Fun.
My suggestion would be show up at the ribbon cutting, which will presumably include required helpings of dairy free ice cream. Then take something which will make you violently ill, real two exits no waiting.
Then declare that you must have a gluten allergy as well, and can people please stop trying to get you to eat things.
Talk about ending on a cliffhanger.
This is UNTRUE!!!! If you’re new to Catholicism you HAVE to listen to MEEEEEEEEE. Here’s my advice:
Leave
really good and important tags
I'm confused by this analogy (not a slight against whoever wrote those tags, but whoever came up with it).
People telling you the nasty details and history of or a religion = the dead deer
Priests or Mormon bishops or scientology grand thetans telling you just The Truth = ... what?
They can't be the river, because that would make the entire analogy break down. You shouldn't drink from a river with a dead deer in it, whether or not you ask the deer its opinion on the matter.
I suppose they could be some other river, without a dead deer, but a second river isn't mentioned.
Again, not a criticism of the messenger, but of the message.
I remember sitting through the sex ed analogies in a public school. Both the chewed up bubblegum AND the cellophane tape, so I understand how cults operate on a good deal of Nigerian Prince Email tactic of "JUST DON'T FUCKING ASK QUESTIONS!".
I recall (years upon year upon years ago, before Obergefell, so there's no way I could find it now), where someone did a review of studies looking for instances of homosexual behavior in mammals.
Their conclusion was the the only mammals where homosexuality had not been documented were the ones where nobody had ever gone looking for it. Every time someone asked "Could some of these animals be gay?" the answer always came back "Yes. Here's pictures."
Human Is is a 1955 Philip K. Dick sci-fi short story where a guy goes to another planet for work and when he comes back to Earth his personality has flipped from an asshole to a sweet, kind, considerate man. Everyone's immediately convinced that an alien has taken over his body, this goes all the way to court, and in court his wife testifies that she's noticed no changes at all and so the charges are dropped.
And then there's a bit right at the end of the story as the wife and the husband are walking out of court:
Jill turned abruptly. "What is your name? Your real name."
The man's gray eyes flickered. He smiled a little, kind, gentle smile. "I'm afraid you would not be able to pronounce it. The sounds cannot be formed..."
Jill was silent as they walked along, deep in thought. The city lights were coming on all around them. Bright yellow spots in the gloom. "What are you thinking?" the man asked.
"I was thinking perhaps I will still call you Lester," Jill said. "If you don't mind."
"I don't mind," the man said. He put his arm around her, drawing her close to him. He gazed down tenderly as they walked through the thickening darkness, between the yellow candles of light that marked the way. "Anything you wish. Whatever will make you happy."
And I. God. There's something there. A soupcon of monsterfuckery. To tell your partner in a moment of intimacy that yes, you're something so inhuman that the lips you're stealing can't speak your actual name. You're a parasite that not only had the ability to burrow under this man's skin and take over his life, but you were so desperate to escape a dead, dry, blasted planet that you did.
And for your partner to then turn around and go "I know, I've always known, and I love you" is just. God I know it's not a great Dick story but something about it is making me lose my mind
You'll want to avoid PDK's story "Oh, to Be a Blobel!" It's about a married couple that grow to hate each other. Dick has said that it's an analogy to the cold war and how former allies the USA and Soviet Union had a falling out.
But I have to imagine he was going through a really rough divorce when he was writing that one.
