I, like basically everyone, am very excited for the new expac coming out in Jan. I'm BEYOND excited for it and all the combat updates. After the first fanfest I have a few predictions/wants of various feasibility.

They are going to split FF14 into FF14 "classic" that will end at Endwalker. This will be the classic FF14, unchanged sort of evergreen. Then FF14 "modern" will run from ARR to current and ongoing content but be modernized and updated.

We are going to be able to switch classes in combat. This would add another level of complexity to combat and rely more on player skill than memory of a rotation since it's combo based. I'm guessing it would be just two for starters.

They will add another sub race to each race and include more ways to individualize each other. I'm guessing that they saw how popular move set mods are and are going to try to meet the need.

Norse mythology elements will be featured highly in Evercold.

I'm expecting operatic tracks and Ironmouse featuring as one of the headlining singers.

The phys range will be a biblically accurate WW2 tank. (This is not going to happen but it would be HILARIOUS)

What do you think? I know some of these are probably never gonna happen, but then again, I thought the combat overhaul wouldn't happen either.

My two favorite stories

I don't want to put too many details cause I don't want to out people, but I got these two responses on wide extremes.

One person had trouble reading and learned to communicate because of this game. It was a place that they felt comfort and growth in.

On the other side was the person who started to play to make fun of the reboot and ended up crying at Elezen Grandpa.

Both of them profess the same love for the game now, but look how they started. A touching story and self-bamboozlement.

"there's a guy in the walls" movies exist in a universe that I fucking WISH was real. imagine how easy it would be to install stuff in walls if the space behind a wall was not 3.5 inches/8.9 cm deep and I could get my whole self in there. of course that would mean a guy could get in there too, but what are the odds.

idk I think this ultimately comes back to the obsession with the idea that the videogame is an inherently juvenile storytelling form, and that games are somehow incomplete versions of themselves. it seems very silly but many people truly believe that games cannot and never have effectively told stories. the conclusion being that a game that does have a compelling story must reach its apotheosis in a live-action TV or movie adaptation. but the fact is the game is a game in the first place bc in fact that was the most appropriate vehicle for delivering its story. i have story ideas that i know i can't write because i genuinely feel they'd only work as games or shows, not as books. different stories require different deliveries. i'm so sick of his obsession with live action adaptations being the final and best version of games and animated productions. beyond irritating.

Thankfully there are a lot of academic studies and research to say otherwise. Unfortunately, the people who think every videogame is Roblox or Fortnite are also unlikely to follow academic topics. The immersive narrative of videogames is unique and fascinating to me too! I've been more moved by games than any other form of media and that's been true since I was a kid in the 80s-90s.

Just Some Guy, but like. There is something distinctly off about them, like maybe they have been living in the wilderness alone for 15 years, who knows, but like. They do the job!

An expert in the field. Makes sense, you probably run into those saving the world and whatnot.

A world-renown expert in the field. Still makes sense, but wow you were not expecting that for your silly problem.

A world-renown person. Like, everyone’s heard of Cid Garlond by this point, what do you mean you have him on speed dial.

A world leader. You thought the Elder Seedseer never left Gridania except in times of crisis, but ok!

A dragon, quite possibly of the first brood or otherwise quite old. This feels like overkill.

Something you weren’t even expecting to be sentient, like the plushy chocobo and its robotic friend. Extremely weird.

A literal cryptid or person you thought was entirely mythical. Sure, this might as well happen.

You never meet ‘the guy’, because apparently ‘the guy’ lives in a different world/dimension. Somehow still gives excellent and applicable advice.
