What’s your history with Heather?

We were in a group of homeless crooks together. 

Well. Not exactly crooks, that’s an exaggeration, but we were bums who banded together to help one another stay alive and our approaches weren’t always pure though we were just doing what we could to not starve ourselves. We stole, got into fights for cash, that whole loaded dice business. Going through from one big city to another, getting arrested.

There isn’t much history to tell. We were divided into groups. The thieves gathered resources, the bikers helped us travel and the battlers battle. She was always with the latter bunch and I kept it to myself with my rank. She was closer to my brother because he gave her a fuckload to keep me intact. She left before I got any chance to know her beyond the fact that she was a clown by day and a sulker at night. Scared the shit out of me sometimes but we kept our respectful distance. I don’t know. We were like very distant cousins who looked out for each other.

If you could have three wishes, what would you wish for?

For Pa and Ma and Uncle Jack to come back. 

I would wish for a better place to sleep, like a warm bed and shit and not just some hole-in-the-wall inn. Maybe enough money to make my way back to Mountain Home. Better job, even though the only thing I’m good at is ripping off people’s bucks.

New places meant the thief would get messy. It wasn’t like her to break into houses or in this case, some sorta’ deuce and a half building. It was just her luck that she had procured a whiff of something delicious ---like bagels or god knows what, when she passed by this evening and she hadn’t fucking had anything to keep her jostled for her rounds tomorrow. This was unsound and Colt would smack her upside the head if he found out she was going in without an established plan. But she was starving, when someone had lived scarcity in for too long self-control became difficult to preserve which made her dive head first into danger. She didn’t even know what this place was made for or made of. 

Still, using the opening from the wreckage of the blizzard she glided her way inside, finding relief when she noticed there wasn’t anyone around. She was just here for the food. She could pilfer a few bags, then leave. Rummaging through the cabinets, Kara smiled widely when she found her jackpot. Her hand busied itself to take the snacks, losing her alert and becoming clueless to her surroundings.

That was until she felt the wind being knocked out of her. 

Her shirt was yanked back by a leaden force. Within seconds she went from stumbling to reach more cabinets to falling on her ass, marbles spilling with her and her first thought was she was fucked. She had thought no one was around, either her senses were becoming real rusty or this person knew exactly how to be silent. Panic rose within her. What would Colt say? You sloppy piece of shit. “No, no, no. Wait- Wait...” Looking up to address her captor, her eyes widened in recognition. The blonde hair was new, but she could recognise those lethal eyes everywhere. She was so fucked. 

“Heather?” Out of all the people wihin their old band of homeless wayfarers, including her brother, Heather was one of the few who had daunted her to the core. Each of them had been given a role with the purpose of surviving, and the stockpilers had never communicated much with the battlers, the ones who kept them guarded and went out to drill fights for money. It had been years, but she still felt the same rush of intimidation when she looked at her and remember all the times she had seen her soaked in red. Oh, this was her demise. 

“Heather--Heather--- It’s Kara! I can explain!” Stupid, just run. Using her weak leg, she took a chancy shot and kicked her ankle, turning around fast to escape after.

“When I said a weekend away at the beach was what I needed, a tan line was not in my plan,” the redhead said with disgruntlement while she peered at the sunburn she had acquired during her fun in the sun at Los Angeles, angrily glaring back at her from her shoulder. Arabelle was typically the apostle for safety when going out in the sun, chalking it up to distraction with her son’s requests to build a sandcastle and ensuring her wife was getting plenty of time in the water that was meant to be good for the backaches the twins were giving her, and ultimately neglecting to properly slather herself in sunscreen. “It matches my hair practically.” She had to laugh at her own perilous ignorance, re-adjusting her sleeve. To further soothe the burn and give it room to breathe, she lost her undergarment and chose to wear an article that was tight-fitting in her bosom but off-the-shoulder where it would give the burn freedom from constriction. Her long, bright red waves hid it from the daylight, for the most part. “I knew I should have worn my hair down or tried to set an alarm to reapply the suntan. Nobody tells you how low your attention span can become when you have children.” Letting out a sigh, she focused on unboxing the shipment of drinks she was meant to shelve the tiki bar with. “I love springtime, hate the inconveniences that come along with it, you know? The pollen is going to come for me next.”

Shit, shit, shit.

This was not how things were supposed to go. Kara had sprinted all the way down to this sector, unawares of where she had been wandering off to as the core of her focus had been sidestepped by the fact that there were a bunch of guys chasing her tail. She had been compromised and she needed to leave, fast. Yet fucking luck had brought her here on accident. A club for Pete’s sake, how the heck had she gotten so lost she had turned up here of all places? And this girl, this woman was venting off about something she could barely fathom. 

No. Relax. Don’t panic, you’ll just attract attention to yourself if you do. Kara had paled, heavy breaths coming out of her lungs. She placed her hands on her hips as she tried to pay attention to what she was saying. Maybe this woman had more than enough jurisdiction to help her out. What if she was the one to tell the pigs? She was so screwed. “Um....” She began, laughing awkwardly. Her blue eyes fled around. “I mean. It doesn’t look that bad. At least you didn’t get sun burnt as bad as I had last year. I was out in the sun for a long time and forgot to apply enough lotion. My thigh was as bad as a fresh Alaskan crab.”

Kara pushed her hair behind her ear. Enough chit-chatting. “Um. Can you tell me where the restroom is?”

Andrea seemed to have a spring in her step, the weather was changing and she knew that her favourite season was upon Primm. It was always something that she had loved ever since she was little and it always made her happy, it made her extra happy after the winter that had been upon everybody. She was making her way down the street and noticed some blooming flowers and just couldn’t help herself. She walked over and began to smell them humming happily as she did. “I have to get some for my place” She said noticing the person not too far from her.

So little things could lower Kara’s defenses but if she wanted to be very frank, this one had to take the cake. Mountain Home was a remote area sectionally secluded by nature and throughout her childhood, she had knackered herself day and night allowing her senses to be free as she would touch all that wilderness could possibly offer. With her Ma and Pa often admonising her to be careful, yet she would return home with her brother scraped up. All in good fun though and she missed those days. 

“Can I have some for myself?” She asked, for once in awhile her mind not firmed on what the woman could have in her pouch. She just wanted to feel free again, picking petals and smelling them while looking for a meadow to rest. “I cannot wait for spring, I’ve had enough of the snow.”

The other’s reaction further invoked her curiosity, interested in the blush that lingered on the woman’s pretty features. Well, if she wasn’t going to get lucky by a stand-up Tinder date, it looked like the fish in the sea would be offering her a saving grace for the evening. The bags under her eyes and general disheveled appearance the woman carried meant she was quite out of place in the fancy restaurant, but Genevieve wasn’t one to judge based on vanity. The other brunette had a gorgeous face and that was all that mattered, in her perspective, regardless of whether her attire contrasted her own with her expensive platform heels and a cheetah-print coat to shield her from the poorly weather outside when she left the building. Gesturing for her to head over to her table, she enthused, “Course, doll, I wouldn’t ask if I didn’t want ya to sit with me. A pretty lady like you should never sit alone.” She was mousy, therefore the nurse thought that the natural response would be to try to make her feel good about herself, whether she was flirting or not. Patting the other side of the table for her to sit, a warm smile perked her glossed lips, impossible as ever to tell if it was fake or of genuine passion. Her hazel eyes didn’t precisely hold the same warmth when they were slightly distracted by the glass of wine she lifted to her lips to take another drink from. “Tell you what, I’ll even buy ya dinner. Maybe I can get you a warm shower. How’s that sound?” Really, the brunette just wanted her company, and that would be enough incentive for her to pay up for the meal. Her motives may not be entirely pure in the way that she looked to attain her desires; this one was mostly innocent. After a strenuous workweek, a little companionship would be an ideal anyone searched for. “Genevieve. Got a name, gorgeous?” she inquired, nudging the bread basket in the direction of the other brunette encouragingly.

Though her blush was evident, Kara had a hard time keeping eye contact with the woman. She was second to her brother’s fame and attained disdain in regards to attention. Picking people’s pockets for a living didn’t help either, in order for her to survive she had to keep living off the grid which meant she was far from habituated to being noticed by someone, anyone. And if she did, it just meant bad news by and large. This girl, she stuck out like a sore thumb for whatever reason. She was composed and a looker, friendly but a little too friendly. She could have just tallied it as southern hospitality if it had not been for her nature to be cynical. What was the hidden agenda? Did she want something out of this deal? 

She could use the warm shower. She hadn’t had one in forever and the soap at the inn was growing thinner. Most of the time when she scrubbed it, her skin just came out red. “I don’t know, that seems a little burdensome. I just need a couple’a bites to help me sleep without empty stomach tonight. Or a warm blanket without holes on it.” Rodents and the owner’s lack of care. Beggars couldn’t be choosers though and she knew she had to suck it up if she didn’t want to get kicked out. She looked at the bread basket longingly for a second, wondering if it would taste better than the half-baked sandwich she just had. Carefully, she took and started nibbling on it. “Thank you.” She might be fierce but she had politeness in her still, she was too exhausted to be inordinately peckish anyway. “I’m Kara. It’s nice to meet you, Genevieve.” A classy name for a classy looking woman. Out of her league. She wondered if she could snitch something out of her pockets. She curled her knees up on the seat, not caring if the act was considered improper. “Do I look like a big ball of misery?” She asked with a chuckle. “People don’t usually act this nice toward me.”

What was growing up like for you?

Ugly. Try getting on a plane with the people who raised you your whole damn life and then coming down from the heap of five to two. Fatal crash, two hundred survivors out of Lord fucking knows how many. Lived in the system, found your brother picked first and only returning five years later ‘cause life was also shit for him. Been living like damn nomads ever since. He gets to lay out all night with the girls while I like to count the wallets to lift while they’re buzzed. 

One helluva life, I suppose. But sure enough keeps us living;

“Nice, thank you.” The sarcastic, dry response was given to the waiter when he informed her that if her supposed date wasn’t going to show, she would either have to order or give up her table, grudgingly grabbing the menu from his hand. It wasn’t disappointing that her “date” ( really, a hookup ) hadn’t shown up– Genevieve could care less about that with her lacking desire for commitment or “budding romance”, it was the tactic of ghosting on her and sticking her with a meal alone and the bill that ticked her off. Then again, she would be awfully resentful if her date had showed up, eaten their food, and excused themselves to the bathroom. Sighing in exasperation, she crossed one of her ankles over the other under the table, her six-inch platform heels scuffing the floor of the nice Italian restaurant that had been chosen as their destination. In the midst of idly looking over the menu with every intention of eating by herself, as she had for the past several years of her life a good fifty percent of the time, hazel eyes caught sight of someone gazing at her over the top of her menu. The brunette’s gaze turned slitted with moderate curiosity of what could have caught their attention, assuming it to be her gaudy pair of earrings, gold hoops with jagged pattern and blue feathers attached. Despite herself, she let out a lukewarm chuckle, venturing in her rural Iowan drawl, “You get stood up for a date too or you just like eatin’ alone? Unless you got somethin’ to say to me, you might wanna stop starin’ before ya make a girl fall in love.” Breaking into a coy smirk behind the cover of her menu, she supposed many people were eating alone after loved ones were hospitalized or required time to recuperate at home, or simply were in need of time alone for their own sanity. Lifting one hand from the piece of laminated plastic, she beckoned them with manicured nail and coquettish quirk of brow. “Care to be a doll an’ join me?”

Flustered when the girl called her out for staring, Kara hid half of her face in her scarf and moved her blue eyes so they were staring at the half chewed croissant she somehow was able to order today. Her paycheck could barely bypass her everyday living, the motel room she slept in always smelled of bad breaths and smoke and even then she could hardly afford a week of peaceful nights save for when she put extra labor in the dishwashing. That’s why she had bags under her eyes, exhausted out of her mind and chased by fear of being poured down the drain again. She had a brother but there’s so much a cheap boxing instructor can do. Kara was just a little lost thinking of those things hence her stare. She then blushed and shook her head. “It’s nothing. I was just lost in my own thoughts.” Whatever the girl had looked appetizing too but Kara’s pride was too high to beg and wonder. However, she could use the company. “Are you sure?” She asked, tugging her tattered shirt. “I smell like the fucking sewer, I wouldn’t want to make ya lost your appetite.”

Ryder pulled up to the Kingpin Trailer Park, having only a bag full of clothes and a small box of belongings. As Ryder parked his car, he was blown away with the state of the trailer park. He had heard of storm that had hit the area, but didn’t realize the extent of it all. Winding down his window, Ryder looked over and thought to himself “What am I going to do now?” as he opened his door and stepped outside of his car. Ryder moved away for a new start, to make something of himself, to do what he’s always wanted to do, but how is he going to make it work now?  Ryder decided to go for a walk to see if he could find anyone. After a few minutes of wandering around, Ryder saw someone in the distance. “Hello!” He yelled out, hoping they would hear him.

Collecting scraps had always been her hobby. There’s a blessing in the shame, the way Kara was dressed in her holey coats and a dirty scarf made her look just like your every day homeless person and the thing with humanity is that they fend off the things they can’t understand or feel helpless for so really, no one gives a rat’s ass when they find her diving into the park’s dumpster to look for resources. Something useful, anything she can sell. Or at least not until she heard someone calling out. Like an animal cornered, she withdrew.

“Jesus, you scared the shit out of me.” Kara said. A moment of defenseless, then she put her gloved hand on her chest. “What do you want!? There’s nothing to see here!”

Hi guys. The name’s Gabbie and I thought I’d make a little intro for myself. I’m a business student at Central Michigan University and I’m currently drilling through my last three semesters so safe to say I’ve been a little wiped out but I am so excited to be here. 

I’ll post proper intro soon but if you would like to meet my riot siblings: Kara who is a feisty pickpocket who’ll bite your toenail off if you so much as look at her wrong and her older brother Colt, an arrogant prick that swings around the town teaching people how to box.
