What's worse is when people hype it up saying that it "truly gets" the franchise in ways that the "inferior newer entries from the franchise owner" don't. You then look inside and wonder did they even play any of the games in the series or do they only watch Youtube essays about the subject. (replace "play any of the games" with "watch the series at all" etc depending on the original source medium) (there is one specific ATLA fanfic that was popular back in the day that I've never understood why it was popular because of the sheer amount of loathing the author seemed to have for the source material. Yet I would find it over and over and over again when surfing through FF.net favorites)
