Voldemort was more human than Tom Riddle could ever be.
Voldemort was ugly, he had sick, gray skin with bumps and uneven yellow teeth. Parts of his face were gone, his eyes red and barely a slit, like a snake. He had no hair, and bones could be seen from his skin, he was humanly terrifying.
Tom Riddle was perfect. He walked and heads turned, people would ask if he was a Veela, his skin was perfect, his hair, his eyes, perfect and vibrant, alive. If you looked at him for a little too long you would realise that you wouldn’t find anything that could be considered a flaw. He didn’t get dirty he didn’t have acne, it was like looking at a robot, so uncanny he was inhumanly perfect.
Voldemort raged, he screamed, he threatened he killed, he laughed. He looked people in the eyes and his smile was sadistic and crazy and evil and genuine. He would go through a cycle of emotions, pride, envy, disappointment, wrath. His emotions were raw and unfiltered and human.
Tom Riddle was a porcelain doll, he smiled at the right times and looked at others with pity when the time called it. He had never shown anything true his entire life. His face was a perfectly woven mask of perfection, no actual feeling slipping in it.
Voldemort was perceived. He was hated, he was loved, he was feared, he was admired, he was everything. Ask whoever and they’ll give you a different opinion on the great Dark Lord, they’ll make him feel like a person, a real, human person that he tried to hard not to be.
Tom Riddle was always loved. Ask whoever and they’ll give you the same answer on the charming, kind Slytherin prefect that happened to be an exact match for everyone. They’ll make him look like a fairy tale, an urban legend of Hogwarts, something so uncanny and so, so far away for any human to reach.
