Since his retirement, Maekar has focused on his sons. Much to his disappointment, Daeron, his firstborn, couldn't handle the pressure, so he quit at an early stage of his career. All his focus is on Aerion now.

Aerion has won multiple championships, due to his impressive technical skills and lack of fear on the ice, which often leave audiences breathless. What he sometimes lacks in emotional vulnerability on the ice, he makes up for with complex combinations, including backflips, even though they were just recently allowed back into the sport.

After multiple years at the top of the rankings, both nationally and abroad, Aerion has lately come under scrutiny, due to unsportsmanlike conduct in connection to competitions. Aerion has been accused of belittling opponents, assaulting a fan at a bar during the 2025 World Figure Skating Championships. The last of which earned him a suspension from the competition, where he was set to be one of the top three contestants, if not the Gold medalist.
