oh my god so when i was watching the hamilfilm today, it must’ve been the 1000th time i heard the song “burn,” and thus heard these lyrics:

You published the letters she wrote you. You told the whole world how you brought this girl into our bed. In clearing your name, you have ruined our lives.

and it suddenly hit me. the “our” there might not be referring to eliza and alexander.

because one thing i always liked was how eliza–onstage, at least–never insults maria, even though she was sleeping with her husband. she never calls her names or blames her for the affair. she instead focuses all her energy on being pissed at her cheating husband.

and in real life, maria’s life really was ruined after the affair came out. she lost everything, including custody of her daughter. and imagine how fucking humiliated she must’ve been when hamilton published her letters.

i always heard those lyrics as: “You didn’t just ruin my life, you’ve also ruined your own, you idiot.”

but now, i think it could also be: “You didn’t just ruin my life, you also ruined hers.”

i painted my graduation cap and im actually kinda proud of it. the words are song titles for wicked, hamilton, newsies, dear evan hansen, hadestown, chicago, kinky boots, little shop of horrors, cats, the lightning thief musical, waitress, and the last five years. the two figures are alexander hamilton and jack kelly bc those are my top musicals rn.

I saw this post today talking about Jeremy Jordan being too muscular to be a wimpy geek like Seymour for Little Shop of Horrors. That isn’t wrong, they’re supposed to have very different body types. I wanted to see if anyone else had more views on this matter and I came across that Slate article that had this sentence in their last paragraph

I don’t think this is dork erasure at all. Dorks don’t have to be horribly ugly or anything close to that sort. And Jeremy Jordan isn’t gonna have to go on some kind of diet to lose his muscle mass… He was able to play a dork for years on Supergirl.

Jack Kelly and Winn are really good examples to show how something as simple as the clothes an actor wears can portray a whole characters being.

His acting and the clothes he wore to dress as Winn was able to convince most of the Supergirl fanbase that he’s a wimpy skinny nerd. Winn was almost always dressed in a dress shirt that was a size too big or in long coats. Never anything clingy, which was perfect for making him appear smaller, or in the trenchcoats case skinnier. Posture also plays a role here, and Winn wasn’t the most confident person, so him being slouched over and never really standing up straight added even more to this.

Then you have Jack Kelly on the opposite side of the scale

Jack Kelly is the fearless leader of all the Manhattan Newsies. A stark difference from Winn, but Jeremy Jordan played both of these roles perfectly. Again the clothing makes a lot of the character. Put him in a tight fit sleeveless shirt to make his arms and shoulders stand out. His other outfit was a fitted blue shirt and a tight fitting vest to accent his chest and shoulders again. Jack’s posture was always very straight and strong as well.

Davey was also supposed to be potrayed as a bit of a wimp. He was very brave, but not supposed to be as much of a brawler like the other Newsies. His clothing helps reflect that with the slightly baggy dress shirt and the unbuttoned vest. ((But it also helped that Ben Fankfauser is naturally a bit tall and lanky))

And these are all pretty close in time! It’s not like Jeremy Jordan had a lot of time to bulk up for the role of Jack Kelly or had time to slim down for Winn. The Newsies Live recording was done right in the middle of filming season 2 of Supergirl.

These two are the staple dorks of the Arrowverse!!! But look how different their body types are. The Little Shop of Horrors dress crew aren’t gonna be putting Seymour in any form fitting clothes. They’re probably gonna follow a similar step to Winn. When broadway comes back and Jeremy plays as Seymour he’s gonna be amazing because Jeremy Jordan is a wonderful actor and will have no problem giving a fantastic portrayal of Seymour, “beefy” or not.
