Cat’s noses
Some of you may remember the art contest that @lordranandbeyond did a few years ago where I gave away a copy of Bloodborne. I’ve decided to do another art contest, and the winner will receive a copy of Dark Souls: Remastered for the system of their choice!
OFFICIAL CONTEST RULES:
You must be following my blog in order to participate in the contest. This makes it easier for us to stay in touch and ensures that you’ll see all of the contest updates in your newsfeed.
You must like and reblog this post in order to participate in the contest. Be a good sport and help spread awareness so that other artists will be able to participate.
Send your submissions to me via email at [email protected] by midnight (EST) May 18th, 2018. Any late submissions will not be considered. Be sure to include your tumblr URL in the email.
Your art submission must be related to Demon’s Souls, the Dark Souls series or Bloodborne. Please do not submit crossovers with unrelated media.
Your art submission must be an original work created by you specifically for this contest. You may not share it publicly prior to the contest results being announced.
You may only submit one piece of art for the contest. If you attempt to submit multiple works, you may be disqualified from entry.
I understand that these games have some mature themes, but art of an erotic or pornographic nature will not be considered. Please keep this in mind.
Your art may be used in posts announcing the contest winner. You will receive credit if this happens. We will not use your art in any other fashion.
The contest winner will need to give me their name and mailing address in order to receive their prize. If you are unwilling or unable to do this, you will not be able to receive the prize and a new winner will be chosen.
I’m doing this contest with help from @swordofmoonlight and @candlemaiden. In the interest of fairness, they are not eligible to enter the contest but you should totally follow their blogs!
Even if you are not planning to enter the contest, please consider sharing this post in order to spread awareness about this community event. Thank you.
Many thanks to @swordofmoonlight for creating the poster image for this contest.
fandom as a whole is migrating away from a mutual appreciation of a story and towards an endless cycle of nitpicking and discourse and frankly that’s just Exhausting
Its just an endless stream of “you’re doing it wrong”. You’re reading this wrong, you’re appreciating this character wrong, you’re appreciating this character too much, you’re not appreciating this character enough, its not enough that I don’t like this pairing but it’s wrong to like it, you’re enjoying this wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong, wrong.
And honestly it’s just tiring.
It’s becoming academia.
“Lady Maria, I’m a robin.”

TL;DR: Her model is fine and quite accurate. There are technical issues present here, specifically a rig and animation set which shared across all of her model, both thicker and thinner. I think it should be fixed. However, there is no gender/body image issue here.
So I saw this on twitter
And people are making a fuss about gender/body image issue or something.
It’s not.
First of all, her waistline is quite accurate [1]. In her original skin, she wears very thick winter coat and a utility belt. If gives an impression that she is ‘thicker’, which is not true. In Rise and Shine [2], she’s shown to be bottom heavy, and her waist is quite smaller than what her original model gives as an impression.
Now, she’s bending weirdly, what is that? Does Blizzard not know what women look like?
It’s actually simple. All of her models use the same rig and animation. Remember that her original model is very ‘thick’, so they built and optimized her rig and animation around that. Her original model is bendy and always is, because Blizzard’s art team tweaked and set her rig up like that and decided that it looks right for her original model (which is ‘thick’, as I’ve said 3 times already). Now, they’ve created a model with Loose clothes and noticeably thinner body. When they put her rig and animation there, they will still behave as if her model is thick like the original, resulting in weird bend here and there.
Now you would ask, why won’t they fix it, just this particular model?.
The thing is, they can, but how much resource would that take? We don’t know the inner workflow of Blizzard, but basically they have to create a new pose and export as what? Single animation or a package? Is their code complicate or easy enough to put new animation there for only this particular character? What size would it take up? etc.
(This is not the same as Tracer’s issue. Tracer’s is a single pose which shares with all of her model, not just this particular one.)
(But what about Reinhardt? Genji? Their face are animated in some of their peculiar skins? With face? Well, that is the wonder of rigging. Things, like face for example, you can put as many on the model and tell it to appear or disappear. This can be shared among all of their model.)
Will Blizzard fix this? They may, and I think they should just because it’s so anatomically incorrect. But I wrote all of this because I want to tell that:
NO GENDER OR BODY IMAGE ISSUE IS PRESENT IN THIS PARTICULAR MODEL
Peace out
The problem exists only in that specific pose (her default one at that). Other poses and her animations behave just fine. It should be relatively easy to fix. Problem is that everyone is looking at this from the wrong angle.
Yep. It can be easy to fix if Blizzard want to. Some people act like this is how she pose the whole game which is not.

i’m opening up commissions again because i’m kind of in a pickle w/ some debt!! if you’re looking for a drawing of your favorite character, OC, friend, or self, look no further!! send a commission request to [email protected] ! all commissions are digital and will be broken off into five categories: icons, cartoons, flats, watercolors, and acrylics:
__________________________
ICONS: $10. i can make a snazzy little square icon for whatever social media you choose! mostly for busts and other simple shapes! CARTOONS: $15. simplified caricatures, inked and given a max of 2 colors. an additional $10 per extra figure!
FLATS: $25. flats are meant to imitate gouache, with less linework and more concentration on shapes. they are stylistically flat; thus, the name. either very minimal or no shading and highlighting and no backgrounds! an additional $20 per extra figure
WATERCOLOR PAINTINGS: $40 these digital paintings are meant to imitate watercolor + ink. they will include backgrounds, shading and highlighting, a wide color range, and modeling as you request. only an additional $20 per figure here. ACRYLIC PAINTINGS: $60. these are the most time intensive which is why the cost is the most! these digital paintings are meant to imitate acrylic with thick strokes and a build up of color to give a more full effect. backgrounds, shading and highlighting, the widest color range, and realistic modeling as you request. an additional $40 per figure.

all transactions will be done through paypal, and if you’re new to paypal transactions, no worries! i can walk you through it in our emails! in your email just try to state:
your name
commission type (cartoon, flat, or painting)
specifications within the type (watercolor, acrylic, etc)
subject matter (who/what im drawing)
details (anything in particular you’d like! for example: desired colors, compositional arrangement, poses, clothing, etc)
reference pics!
we will chat a little about what you want and the price. this is rare, but if something is more complicated and would take more time/effort, i might ask for an up-charge in our conversation! after receiving payment, i will begin to work on your image and send you an early WIP to see if you are satisfied with the composition and general format. after your clearance, i will finish it and your piece will be emailed back to you within a month. if you’d like your piece printed and shipped to you in real life, i can do that too for an additional cost!
and that’s all folks!! send that email to [email protected] !!
I’m in this weird place right now. I’m at my lowest self esteem yet I’m quite content? Like 25% of me is worried bout my future, 25% want to go buy fabric and practice sewing, 25% want to sleep and 25% want to watch murder cases.
It’s like some kind of a void I think? A dark, relaxing void. Hmm.
By the way, I want to draw comics and start Patreon but I’m anxious it would become a flop. It’s like, I recently have become some kind of a self-entitled failure who had never won anything? Oh my god I should stop talking.
