I truly believe that the reason that Sam and Gabriel are so interesting as a ship is the way their traumas manifest so differently, and the potential they have to be able to deal with these things together. The way Gabriel runs from a family he desperately wants to be a part of, they way he hides this true soft part of himself because it's been ripped apart by those he loves. The way Gabriel's just lost the will to fight even for the family that he wants so desperately unless someone is there on the front lines too. Then there's Sam, who fights even when it seems hopeless, and even when he knows he'll lose, and who just can't seem to give up his beliefs even when he's in the most harrowing situations and these two things should clash, and yet instead they become something so beautiful.
