"I guess it’s become an iconic moment in that video, and I didn’t even realize it was happening. We shot it in this soundstage warehouse in New York, and the audience was all contest winners from a radio show. I knew the camerawoman, Nancy Schreiber, because she’s worked with my mom before, who’s a filmmaker. Nancy was all the way in the back, somewhere behind the crowd, and I guess she was using a long lens because I didn’t even know she was filming me. I had this habit I’d adopted from touring, where I’d find one or two people in the audience and make eye contact with them during the entire show, just to anchor it. I’d single out a person to the left of me and a person to the right of me, and that’s who I’d sing to. And that’s what I was doing when we were shooting the video. But I had no idea the camera was so tight on my face."

Baby bird season is incoming and I’d like to remind everyone that birds do not have a significant sense of smell. Bird parents will not reject birdlets because you have handled them.

If you see smol birbs with few or no feathers on the ground, you can safely put them back into their nest, bird parents will still care for them.

If you see smol birbs with some or most feathers on the ground, please leave them there, as bird parents are probably nearby watching and feeding.

nakey bird = accidentally fell out, is cold and scared, put back in nest! if you can’t reach the nest, try to put it on a wide branch or fork so predators can’t get at it as easily.

scruffy feather bird = starting to try the fly thing, not very good at it. only put in nest/branch if predators abound, i.e. you have four outdoor cats and they’re licking their chops.

fluffy feather bird = smol fly guy! do nothing. can probably get away from predators and will flip its shit if you pick it up.

i finished qotd last night! some random highlights mostly from the end:

- the entire plot actually revolves around queen akasha being squicked by ritualistic cannibals and accidentally becoming a vampire when she couldn’t mind her own business and let the cannibals cannibal

- marius: lestat, leave the talamasca alone. i am serious / lestat: lol you shouldn’t have said that, now i physically can’t stop myself / louis (now in david talbot’s bedroom): lestat, there is something deeply and intrinsically wrong with you and you will literally never learn anything

- armand redecorating his villa with new paintings on a daily basis to entertain his guests!!! (also i think art is something louis and armand genuinely bond over in the show even though they have different tastes. i think armand actively enjoys shitting on art he thinks is too abstract and doesn’t demonstrate enough technical skill)

- akasha is actually defeated by vampire loneliness rather than decapitation. i don’t think mekare could have killed her if she hadn’t mostly given up already. while it didn’t need to be nearly that long and circuitous the discussion of ethics and human progress was plot critical.

- and maharet finally calling akasha out on her only skill being killing and brainwashing and that not being anywhere near close to what it takes to build a peaceful society

in summary i really liked this book, still skipping ahead to tva, but i’m excited to go back
