Her strength is always something I admire Repost @jamiewallace82 ・・・ Several weeks ago, I had the opportunity to go down to Rodney MS to see the flooded ghost town on the day the water crested. Rodney is special to me - I grew up going down there with my grandmother and the ladies of the UDC to take care of the Presbyterian Church- but I had never seen it flooded. I know deep down that this place won’t be here forever, as the recurring floodwaters take their toll on the remaining buildings. . . . The last time I was there was in July of 2015 with Kyle. It was probably 100* and the town was dry as a bone and eerily quiet. We explored for a little while, until we were dripping in sweat and had both had enough. . This time was much different. There was a chill to the March air, the buildings were full of water, and there were a few tourists and a local man on a tractor. . . I walked off by myself, climbed a fence, and went inside the church I knew as a child. Alone, I painted and prayed in the silent, deserted church. . . Later, I thought about the little town and the churches still standing there for over a hundred years. A war and time and decay and wildlife and floodwaters still have not destroyed them. They are strong and still standing, no matter what life has done to them. I want to be like those churches. I want to live my days strong, no matter the circumstances. I want to be faithful, and know that the floodwaters will eventually recede, and be replaced with grass and wildflowers. I want to be sturdy, and know that when the floodwaters return, my God will keep me from crumbling. So I will continue to paint and pray. . . When you go through deep waters, I will be with you. Isaiah 43.2
