Design is iterative and is never done, and if a student starts to treat his work as “finished,” he will be reluctant to change it even when confronted with a better solution.

“If someone says something about your work that is potentially negative, you believe it is coming from a place of positive intent. If you don’t have that trust in the team, it’s really difficult to have a productive critique. It’s either people don’t say the hard things because they don’t want to deal with the confrontation because they aren’t sure how somebody will react, or they do say those things and it becomes a passive-aggressive competition almost.”

& (as it relates to critique) “This gives us an opportunity to discuss presentation and persuasion, and how every form of presentation (including critique) is an opportunity to shape what people think and understand.“

Walking away from museum visits with newfound appreciation isn’t something that ALWAYS happens but this particular exhibit provided so much to ponder. The exhibit features pieces at the intersection of design, art, and science… pushing the distinction between decoration & function.

ie. Photo 2 is a radiator. A radiator needs a large surface to give its heat to the air. The more decoration a radiator has, the better it works. Photo 3: a rock climbing wall

Photo 4: Mario’s pixel makeup becomes more realistic overtime as technology advances just like the machine generated furniture in the other pictures.

IG Life: Monday Muse. There is something about shadows. Real® Life: We've been back from vacation but looking back at photos is a muse in and of itself. I recently learned that journaling or writing about things you're grateful for promotes positive thinking and trains your brain to reach positive conclusions before negative ones. Reliving memories does just this.
