Hold your pygmy hippo TIGHTLY
Make some raw, emotional statements before editing and whittling.
The inky darkness of the jungle and its waters bleed together, creating abstract rorschach-esque shapes. Are those shadows or dark figures?
Are you dreaming or is it a nightmare?

I briefly worked on Henry Selick’s Wendell and Wild project as production designer.
The first thing I did was create a visual overview of the different environments we see in the movie. This way, we can see how various sets within an environment relate to one another, and how environments as a whole can differ from each other too.
An idea I had for a reoccurring theme throughout the movie was black ice. The protagonist’s parents died by a car accident and drowning. The icy black water that swallowed them continues to haunt her still. Her parent’s gravestone sits in a flooded, icy bog. It turns out they were murdered by the antagonists, so there is black water present at their golf course too.
