Star Crossed Myth: Leon Review

Trigger warning: If sexual assault/ attempted rape are triggering for you, you may want to skip this review and route.

Star Crossed Myth kicks off with what looks to be a meteor hurtling towards to MC’s building. Instead of crashing however, a bunch of beautiful men appear in her bedroom. They tell her that she has stars in her eyes- meaning that she’s the reincarnation of a goddess. These men claim to be gods who were stripped of their powers (mostly, they can regain them somewhat by touching the MC) and were sent to the Earth for having sinned. After Leon takes the MC for a quick flight in the sky she believes them.

Hi everyone! Thanks so much for sticking with me through the A to Z Blogging Challenge, and welcome to all the new followers who’ve arrived! I haven’t quite finished–I’m still a few posts behind, which will go up over the weekend and early next week–but I’m skipping ahead to Z for a moment. As you may know, I will be reopening to all queries tomorrow, May 1st, and I will be posting my full submission guidelines then. First, though, I want to share a new feature I’ll be adding to the submission process!

Beginning next Friday, I will select one query letter each week from the submissions I’ve received and review it with in-line comments and suggestions for improvement on my blog. I’m calling it the Weekly Workshop, and I hope it will help everyone by providing some practical application of how to write query letters! Reviews will generally be posted every Friday. It is entirely opt-in, so if you don’t want to be reviewed, never fear! I will only review queries that specifically say they would like to be considered for Weekly Workshop. The selected query can be from any time–it will not necessarily have been received that week. And it goes without saying, but requesting to be considered for Weekly Workshop does not guarantee a review.

Who’s your favorite author, living or dead? J.K. Rowling

What’s your favorite thing about your book? It doesn’t shy away from the truth.

If you could spend one year on a deserted island with one character from literature, who would you choose? Is it weird to pick one of your own characters? I’d pick Elias from EMBER, because he’s a survivor and could teach me how to hunt, kill, make shelter, etc. At least that way I wouldn’t, you know, die of starvation after 3 days.

Where do you write? All over the place. The library. Local coffee shops. My office, a lot of the time. Sometimes even my car.

Who is your favorite hero or heroine of history? She’s not exactly historical, but no one in history really compares: my mother. She is the bravest woman I know.

Do you tweet? What’s the funniest thing you’ve ever tweeted? I do! I’m @sabaatahir. This isn’t exactly funny, but it was fascinating to me: I once tweeted my desires for a dragon, and was surprised at the number of people who were like “ME TOOOOO.”

What is your favorite season? Springtime in Northern California. The fruit trees are dripping with oranges and peaches and apricots, and you can smell blooming jasmine at night.

If you could teleport anywhere in the known universe right now, where would you go? I was going to say “to the closest planet with intelligent life and oxygen,” but then realized I might have a tough time getting back. So I’d settle for a couple of weeks on a Hawaiian beach.

Do you have any writing rituals? Coffee and music. Without either, I’m pretty useless.

What is your idea of earthly happiness? A dragon of my very own.

What is the best concert you’ve ever been to? Oh, no, you can’t do this to me. I refuse to answer this question properly. I must pick five. I MUST. They are, in no particular order: 1. Jonsi at the 930 Club in DC 2. Nine Inch Nails at the Cox Arena in San Diego 3. Radiohead at Coachella Valley in California 4. Depeche Mode at Coachella Valley in California 5. Tori Amos at the Wiltern Theater in Los Angeles.

What are you currently working on? Surviving the launch of my first book.
