Here’s to our service dogs

Peter is OBSESSED with all dogs. We have an elderly-ish population in our town, which means a ton of PTSD service dogs.

Here’s to all the owners who ignore my toddler going “WOOF WOOF, PET DOGGO” and my other toddler going “RUFF RUFF” while trying to crawl to your life line: I swear I’m trying to teach them to not look at or acknowledge your forever friend. We’re working on it.

First ICU

Got my first legitimate ICU patient since I’ve been back (small hospital). A fib with RVR. Cardizem bolus and lopressor hardly touched them. Went from 186 BPM to 140-130’s so they got a cardizem drip which bottomed our their BP once I bumped it up to 10 mcg/hour. Hospitalist ordered IVP digoxin, which I haven’t pushed like ever. Didn’t touch them. So back on the drop they go. I wonder what will happen, it sounds like an ablation is needed. Also fit bits rock. It caught their heart rate change and that’s what triggered the ot to come in.

Also they were just great people. Nice family. Super patient and understanding. Kept apologizing for peeing so much but idgaf they can pee all they want and I’ll happily undo their monitor 38282 times because great people are hard to come by.

It’s the first time I’ve felt confident since April with a critical patient. My personality is back (happy and supportive works. Had a heroin addict come in who was legitimately surprised that I wasn’t judging him. In February I spent 8 days on a dual diagnosis psych unit with heroin addicts and they’re super cool people- they just went down the wrong path), my memory is (thanks ECT therapy) and I’m less scared of critical people. I’ve been in the front rooms because they needed a strong nurse who can turn over quickly.

New ER

So I’m full time j nights now. I got a 12k bonus for signing on. We’re supposed to open a free standing ER, but DHEC is denying us. Which means being called out. I called out sat for a family emergency. Now I Have to wait to see if I work tomorrow night.

The new freestanding Er is amazing, but we have no helipad thanks to the local retirement community (who will complain when we people die because we can’t fly out strokes. I’m nervous to say rhe least

So, if you are over 165lb and under 175lb there still is a chance that Plan B will work for you, and it may be worth a try. If the pill will not work for you, you can call Planned Parenthood to find out what your options are, their contact information can be found here (x)

If you find that the pill did not work or it is too late for you to use it, look into places around you that offer ‘plan c’ (mifepristone, or the ‘abortion pill’). When doing this, please be incredibly wary of fake abortion clinics. These are typically called Family Planning Centers, Women’s Health Centers, Pregnancy Crisis Centers or something similar. This video goes over them in a lot better then I could ever hope to (here). 

You can get Plan C online here (x) or often at you local Planned Parenthood. The Mayo Clinic has a page on the general risks of abortions here if anyone would like to read it (x) and the National Abortion Federation has a page with commonly asked questions and dispelling the myths here (x).
