I feel like public libraries don’t get enough hype. Like, you’re telling me all I have to do is give you my name and address and promise to bring the books back and I’m allowed to take as many as i want??? And I can check them out over and over again if I need to??? And I only pay if I damage or lose the book???? If this is where my tax money is going then please keep on taxing.
I know it’s not the same thing but Hardison and I are gonna be here for you forever.
All About Us by He is We
Summary: Natasha has feelings for you but it’s hard for her to express how she feels through words. One night you find her in the dance studio and she tells you how she feels in a way that makes sense to her.
Warning: drinking, mention of the Red Room, jealousy
Word count 2.5k
Natasha had no right to feel this way. The logical side of her brain knew this. But logic went out the window when it involved you. After the Battle of New York, you were put on the Avengers’ and Nick Fury’s radar. You could manipulate plants causing them to grow anywhere and move them as if they were walking. With all the damage caused by the fight you used your abilities to help rebuild the city. The media nicknamed you ‘Mother Nature’ after a video of you using trees to rebuild a destroyed apartment building went viral and Fury was at your doorstep asking you to join the team when the video hit 100,000 views. Natasha remembers how reluctant you were about joining the team; only wanting to use your gifts to help and not hurt anymore. After much convincing, you joined the team and your presence had a feeling effect on everyone no one expected.
You were all things plants needed to grow; light, warmth, nurturing and loving - the team began to heal. You got Tony to sleep normal hours and got him out of his lap. The other members of the team would find the two of you outside, Tony drawing on paper and you tending to the garden he installed for you. The Hulk loved you. On days Bruce allowed himself to go green you used your gifts to make flower crowns for the Hulk and on bad days trees for him to smash. Thor came to you when he missed home and he would describe the beauty of Asgard. You created the flowers he described and left them around the tower - everyone soon loved the smell of the Asgardian flowers. You helped Steve adjust to living in a new time period by giving him new music or books. Each book had a flower or bark from a tree with little facts about the species. In return, Steve drew you pictures and left them around for you to find. Clint came to you when he needed to talk about family. You showed him that everything in the Earth is connected so even though he wasn’t with his family physically they were with him. Pepper came to you. So did Maria, Sam, and even Rhodey. Everyone expect Natasha
Natasha was afraid. She was afraid that she was too damaged, so dark, and she would corrupt you. No amount of light you seemed to produce could touch her darkness. That didn’t stop Natasha from being drawn to your warmth. During meetings, her eyes would catch yours, you’d give her a smile and she looked away - acting as if nothing happened. While out in the field, Natasha always made sure you were okay, always out of harm’s way, even if that meant putting herself in danger. She was drawn to you in a way she’s never been drawn to a person before. It scared her, excited her, and kept her frozen.
So she stood behind the bar, making a few cocktails for the party attendees. Tony decided to throw a party to help with the image of the Avengers. Natasha stayed out of that part of being an Avenger, ignoring what politicians or the public said about her - she did her job and she did it well. She was mixing herself a drink watching you. You were sitting on a couch with Maria on one side of you and Sharon on the other - a few other SHIELD agents and politicians ,that Natasha did not know the names of, around you. Sharon had her arm draped on the back of the couch where you sat, her hand resting on your shoulder. You laughed at something one of the politicians said as your laughter died down. Sharon whispered something in your ear that made you giggle. Maria looked back at the bar, no doubt feeling eyes on her, and gave Natasha a look. A look that read - do something before she leaves with Carter. She knew of Natasha’s crush on you.
‘You know, to some people staring is considered creepy.’ The sound of Clint’s voice broke Natasha out of her trance and she rolled her eyes.
‘I’m not starring Clinton.’ He winched at the name. Natasha placed a beer in front of him as he sat down. He picked it up, brought it to his lips, and looked over the party goers.
‘Looks like your girl is going home with someone else tonight.’
‘She’s not my girl.’ Clint turned back to face Natasha, who was sipping on a cosmopolitan.
‘She would be if you told her.’ Natasha shook her head, scoffing slightly.
‘Now why is it my job to go up to her and tell her how I feel?’ She questioned. ‘If she feels the same as you and Maria have claimed, why hasn’t she come up to me?’ She asked. Clint’s jaw dropped.
‘She has!’ He exclaimed. ‘You have been stuck in your head and not believing that someone could actually like you.’ Clint watched as Natasha’s walls started to crumble. It started with her eyes, they became softer and whatever she was feeling could be seen clear as day. Next it was her shoulders, they relaxed more.
‘I don’t deserve someone like her.’ Clint gave his friend a smile.
‘She deserves someone as great as you. You escaped the Red Room and defected to SHIELD to do good. You outsmarted Loki and wielded his scepter to save this city. You are good. We all see it. You just have to see it in yourself.’ Natasha stared at Clink, slowly blinking.
‘I thought it was Roger’s thing to make the emotional speeches.’
‘I just opened my heart to you and this is how I’m repaid.’ Natasha rolled her eyes and tried to hide her smile while taking a sip of her drink.
‘Thank you Clint.’
‘Of course Nat. You’re family. We take care of our family.’ Natasha looked back at the couch where you were sitting and saw it was empty. She felt her heart drop at that thought you left with Carter.
‘She went back to her room.’ Maria said, sitting next to Clint. Natasha fought every nerve in her body from jumping at the sight of Maria appearing. She really needed to get her head on straight when it came to you. ‘She said she was tired.’ Natasha nodded. You just came back from a solo mission in Italy, you were gone for 3 days.
‘Carter?’ Natasha asked, almost afraid to know the answer. Maria smiled.
‘Already moving on to another girl. She turned Carter down.’ The relief Natasha felt couldn’t be put into words. She placed another beer in front of Clint, mixed a quick drink for Maria, and left the party. She stopped at her room - changing out of the black dress she was wearing to an old SHIELD training shirt and a pair of shorts. Heading to your room, an uneasy feeling filled Natasha. Clint and Maria wouldn’t lie to her about you feeling the same but the what if question danced in Natasha’s head. She could face a room filled with armed guards and she was trained to bring down empires but admitting she had feelings for you was beyond her. She walked back past your door and headed for the dance studio that Tony recently installed.
Flicking on the lights, a new feeling filled Natasha’s chest as she went over to her locker and grabbed her pointe shoes. Her relationship with ballet was complicated. The instructors of the Red Room forced her and other young girls to repeat routines over and over again until their feet were raw. But dancing for Natasha was something she loved, it was an escape for her, and a way to hold onto a sense of normal. She put on music and started to dance, allowing her mind to avoid any thoughts of you.
*
Walking around the tower while everyone was asleep was your favorite way to spend your time. You did it on nights you couldn’t sleep either. But you felt completely alone - no worries, no sense of duty, no more bad guys. You were full of pent up energy from your mission and then the party. You couldn’t stop thinking about the way Sharon had your hands over you. She was attractive and fun to be around but you wanted nothing to do with her. You sighed, your thoughts drifting to a certain Black Widow. You weren’t sure if you were the problem. Every member of the team seemed to love you being around except for Natasha. Clint said it was hard for her to get close to people and to give her space, she’ll come around.
Music began to fill the quiet hallway you were walking in. It was soft, classical music that caught your attention. Curiosity got the best of you and you followed the music to the dance studio. The door cracked open and you quietly walked in. Your heart warmed at the sight as you watched Natasha dance. You’ve never seen her so unguarded, so free. The music stopped and Natasha spun around, suddenly aware of another presence in the room.
‘Hi,’ you said. ‘I didn’t mean to interpret. I went for a walk and I heard music.’
‘It’s fine,’ Natasha said, shaking off the shock. ‘I just didn’t expect anyone to be in here.’
‘I can go.’
‘No.’ She said, startling you. ‘I mean you can stay.’ She calmly said. You smiled, nodding, and walking further into the dance studio. You’ve never been in here, really never needing a reason. You sat on the ground with your back resting on the mirror. ‘How did your mission go?’
‘It was good, fairly easy.’ Natasha nodded.
‘Is the mission why you can’t sleep?’ You shrugged.
‘Part of the reason. I always have a lot of energy after a mission that I like to get rid of,’ You explained. ‘But we had Tony’s party.’ You watched as Natasha sat on the ground, stretching out her legs. ‘I’ve never seen you dance before - not even at the parties.’ You would watch men and women go up to the red head and ask for a dance but they were always turned down. Natasha crossed one leg over the other and stretched her back.
‘I had to learn to love to dance again. The Red Room turned it into a punishment or a tool. I needed to dance for me and no one else.’ You kept your emotions well hidden as best as possible as Natasha opened up to you. ‘What do you do to decompress after a mission?’ She asked.
‘Oh uh meditate or do yoga.’
‘Every thought about dancing?’ She questioned. You shook your head.
‘Oh I don’t dance. I’ve never been taught.’ Natasha took her ballet shoes off and put socks on. She stood up.
‘Take my hand,’ Natasha said, holding out her hand. ‘I’ll teach you to dance.
‘I’m not sure I’d be any good.’
‘I didn’t think Mother Nature backed down from a challenge.’ Natasha smirked. You sighed, taking her hand, and she pulled you to your feet and spun you. You gasped, surprised by the sudden movement. Natasha held up. ‘I won’t let you fall down. Hell I’ll even let you step on my feet.’ You laughed at her and the sound of your laugh made her smile. ‘Just give it a try, it’ll be alright.’ You nodded.
‘I trust you.’ You whispered. You watched as Natasha’s eyes lit up with those three simple words.
‘It’s a waltz. Put your hand on my shoulder,’ You did as she instructed and you jumped slightly as you felt her hand on the middle of your back. You wondered if your face was as flushed as you felt. You’ve been this close to Natasha before but that was in training. Being this close to her felt more intimate. She grabbed your other hand and held it about the level with your shoulder. ‘I’ll lead and you’ll follow. If I step forward with my right food. You-’
‘Step back with my right food.’ You cut her off. She chuckled.
‘See you’re a natural.’ You giggled. ‘When we step back with our right, we step to the left, then I step back with my left and you step forward, and end the box by stepping back to the right. Got it?’ You thought about it - you were just making a box while the woman you’ve had a crush on since you’ve moved into the towers held you close.
‘Uh yeah.’ You stuttered. ‘Don’t laugh if I fall.’
‘I would never.’ Natasha spoke sincerely, it took your breath away. ‘Just follow my lead.’ It started off slow, every step Natasha took you hesitantly followed. You stumbled, almost afraid to mess up. But Natasha was patient and had a small smile. ‘Relax, printsessa. It’s just like fighting, don’t think too hard about it, just let it flow naturally.’ If your heart wasn’t pounding before - the Russian pet name that easily passed over Natasha’s lips - made your heart stop.
‘It’s just us,’ she said softly. ‘Let go.’ The tension dropped in your shoulders and each step you took had more confidence. Natasha picked up the tempo and started leading you around the room - the smile on her face was contagious. ‘Follow my lead.’ She said again.
‘Always.’ Natasha spun you as she danced around the room. You couldn’t help but laugh. She slowed down, moving her hands to your waist. You put your arms around her neck. You were sawing to the music that wasn’t playing as you calmed your racing heart. Suddenly you felt brave. You placed a piece of her hair that had some undone from her pony-tail behind her ear. As your fingers grazed her ear, a flower was tucked behind it. Her green eyes were watching you intensely.
‘Do you know why flowers are my favorite?’ You asked her. Your voice was soft, not wanting to ruin the moment. She shook her head. ‘Well, they have to be strong enough to battle through the dirt and they are rewarded with the sun, the light.’ You put your hand in between the two of you, palm facing up, and a small flower started to grow into a beautiful rose. You smiled as Natasha watched the flower grow with childlike fascination. ‘You, Natasha, are a flower basking in the light.’ She closed her eyes, letting out a shaky breath.
‘Can we dance like this again?’ She asked, opening her eyes. ‘Can I hold you real close?’ You nodded, placing the steam of the flower between her fingers - so you were both closing the flower.
‘Do you hear that?’ You asked. Natasha shook her head, confusion written all over her face. ‘They are playing our song. We can’t leave while our song is playing.’ She laughed, head thrown back.
‘There are a few other dances I can teach you.’

I Guess I’m in Love by Clinton Kane

(y/c/e) - your eye color
(y/h/c) - your hair color
Happy Pride Everyone!
Warnings: drinking
Word count: 4.1K
Everyone in New York City, no everyone in the world knows Tony Stark loves to throw parties. Not every party needed to have a reason but tonight it was a time for celebration. The young Avengers completed their first solo mission; weeks of gathering data, surveillance, and raids. They took down an arms dealer growing in Central America. So a celebration was in order. Kate found herself at the bar nursing a jack and coke, surveilling the crowd. Even at a party, her brain couldn’t turn off. A few politicians and societal higher ups would come up to thank and congratulate her. Her eyes would go back to the crowd. No matter how hard she tried, her eyes found you. You were wearing a simple black dress, purple accents at the bottom, and drinking a Pepsi. Kate knew you didn’t drink because it affected your abilities. America was sitting next to you as you were surrounded by a group of new SHIELD agents fawning over your powers. You could teleport a person’s mind to somewhere else. A person would be standing at a party but their mind showed that they were in the Amazon rainforest. You’ve tested your powers on Kate and transported her to Antarctica, she could feel the cold winds against her cheeks and hear the sound of nearby penguins. But the only reason Kate knew she was in the Avenger training room instead of the snowy tundra was your hand holding onto hers.
Kate watched as America put her arm around your shoulder. A tight knot formed in Kate’s stomach. Kate knew America had no romantic interest in you. She was seeing a girl in a different universe (Kate still didn’t understand how the multiverse worked). But she wished it was her. Everyone on the team knew how much you hated being the center of attention, Kate wanted to be the one to confront you. You both became friends quickly as Sam reached out to the both of you at the same time to join the new league of Avengers. You were terrified when you first joined the team. You were kidnapped by HYDRA at a young age and forced to use your gifts for their agenda. So joining a new team, you had your doubts. Kate found you on the roof of the tower and you both talked until the sun came up.
‘Kate Bishop.’ The blonde Black Widow appeared behind the bar. Hearing her name brought her out of her trance and looked at Yelena, who had a knowing smirk on her face. ‘How are you enjoying your evening?’
‘Fine.’ Yelena made a drink with a hum.
‘Better if you had a certain (y/h/c) hair girl by your side?’ Kate blushed.
‘Y/n and I are just friends.’
‘Funny when I didn’t mention Y/N’s name at all.’ Yelena said, sipping her drink. She made a disgusted face. ‘Needs more vodka.’ She opened another bottle and poured it into her drink. She shipped it. ‘Much better. Where was I?’
‘Leaving me alone.’ She loved Yelena like an annoying older sister she never had but she was not in the mood.
‘You need to tell her how you feel.’
‘I don’t know what you are talking about, we are just friends. Best friends.’ Kate argued as she heard more people joining them at the bar, she glanced over and saw it was Peter and MJ.
‘What are we talking about?’ Peter asked, his arm around MJ’s waist.
‘Nothing!’ Kate said.
‘Kate is trying to prove to herself that she and Y/N are just ‘friends’.’ Yelena added the air quotes around the as Peter and MJ laughed. Kate tried to hide the blush on her cheeks by taking a sip of her drink. But Yelena saw it and pinched them. Kate swatted her hand away.
‘Kate, as someone who is truly your friend with nothing more,’ MJ said. ‘If you looked at me the way you look at Y/N I would think you were going insane.’
‘I don’t look at her any differently.’ Kate defended.
‘Please you look at her the way Peter looks at MJ, big heart eyes. It’s disgusting.’ Yelena said, adding a dramatic shiver.
‘What they are trying to say, you’re in love with y/n.’ Peter said simply.
‘In love?’ Kate said slowly with wide eyes.
‘Uh oh, I think we broke her.’ MJ and Yelena laughed.
*
The sound of groaning as the elevator door opened pulled Kate away from her laptop, she was brainstorming new trick arrows for their upcoming mission. The location was still unknown and you and Yelena were trying to get it out of a suspect but he wasn’t talking. She smiled as you walked over and flopped on the couch. You were wearing black leggings and a SHIELD polo. A necklace shaped as an arrow hung around your neck. Kate gave it to you so you would always have a piece of home with you no matter where the Avengers sent you. You were tired. Dark bags colored under your eyes and your ponytail was messy. ‘How did it go today?’ You groaned again, letting your head fall on her shoulder.
‘Bad.’ You said with a yawn.
‘Do you want to talk about it?’ You shook your head.
‘Can I lay here and you tell me about your day?’ Kate closed her laptop and placed it next to her, giving you her full attention. You placed your head on her chest and smiled as Kate undid your ponytail and started to run her fingers through your hair. Kate spoke about her day; a meeting with Sam, America, and Fury, a sparring session with Wanda (that kicked her ass), and a visit to Tony’s lap to work on new trick arrows. Kate watched as your eyes closed and you fell asleep. She didn’t stop talking or moving her hand through your hair. She lived for moments like this. Just you and her. No world that needed to be saved or Avengers to annoy you both. Kate heard the elevator open and an equally tired Yelena walked out. She didn’t hide the smile on her face at the site.
‘You wake her up I will kill you.’ Kate threatened.
‘Kate Bishop, please, as if you could kill me.’ Yelena sat on the couch, moving your legs and placing them on her lap.
‘How was it?’ Yelena sighed.
‘What did she tell you?’ She asked, nodding her head in your direction.
‘Nothing.’
‘Not good. He said some nasty stuff about her.’ Kate’s hand stopped and her body went rigid. You whined as you felt Kate stop playing with your hair. At the sound, Kate relaxed and moved her fingers through your hair. Yelena chuckled. ‘You are whipped, Kate Bishop.’
‘Excuse me?’ Kate questioned.
‘That is what the kid’s say, no?’
‘It is.’ Kate said, slowly adding an unnecessary amount of emphasis to each word.
‘Then you admit it.’
‘I’m not whipped. I’m -’ Comforting a friend. Letting my friend get some well deserved sleep. I’m obsessed with the way her head is laying on my chest. That she feels like home.
*
‘Kate! Kate Bishop!’ Yelena’s snapping in front of her face. She shook her head out of her day dream.
‘Where did you go just now?’ MJ asked.
‘I uh shit.’ Kate licked her lips and drained the rest of her drink. ‘I’m in love.’ She whispered and looked at Yelena. ‘I’m going to need another drink.’ The three spoke at the same time, ‘That’s great’, ‘Should you be having another one?’, and ‘When are you going to tell her?’ Kate watched as Yelena made her a long island. The color of the liquor didn’t disappear as Yelena added the coke. Okay, maybe asking Yelena to make her a drink was not the best idea. She placed it in front of Kate.
‘It is most certainly not great. I’m going to drink 10 more of these. And never.’ Kate answered, taking a sip. She grimaced from the taste of alcohol. ‘Okay maybe only 1 of these.’
‘Why aren’t you going to tell her?’ MJ asked.
‘Because I can’t be in love with y/n,’ Kate took another sip. ‘She’s my best friend and she’s trying to find her footing as a free person not under HDYRA’s control. I can’t add this to it.’
‘Even if telling her could make you both happier?’ Peter asked.
‘Yup.’ Kate said, popping the ‘p’. ‘I would rather sit in my own feelings and not tell her. What if she doesn’t feel the same then it will be awkward? I can’t lose her.’ Yelena laughed.
‘You, Kate Bishop, are very stupid.’ Kate’s mouth dropped.
‘First, that was very rude. Second, these are valid concerns to have!’ Yelena shook her head.
‘Come Peter and MJ. Let’s go get food and Kate sits here in her feelings as she says. Tony promised me Mac and Cheese and I am starving.’ Yelena left the bar with MJ following.
‘For what it’s worth I know she likes you and no matter what happens you guys will still be best friends.’ Peter said, jogging to catch up. Kate looked over to where you are, you caught her eyes and gave her a small wave. Kate waved back, turned around and stared into the clear liquid in her glass. Kate sighed, rubbing her head.
*
Kate was pacing back and forth in her bedroom, her closet open, and different outfits thrown on her bed. It was 3 hours till Tony’s party and she had no idea what to wear. ‘FRIDAY, can you please ask Y/N to come to my room?’
‘Of course, Miss. Bishop.’ It didn’t help Kate’s anxiety that you were on your way to her room when you had to get ready for the same party. What if you think this was stupid? What if you thought this was lame? Kate is an Avenger, picking out an outfit shouldn’t be this hard. A soft knock echoed through Kate’s room and stopped her spiraling thoughts.
‘It’s open.’ Kate called out. The door opened and you walked into her room. You must have just gotten out of the shower because your hair was damp and you were wearing a white robe. You closed the door, walking over to her.
‘Kate, what’s wrong? FRIDAY said it was urgent.’ Damn that AI, Kate thought.
‘It’s not urgent. It’s actually really stupid. I’m not sure why I could you over. It’s no big deal. I mean you have to get ready and it’s silly for me to take up your time. I-’
‘Kate.’ You grabbed onto your shoulders, cutting off her ramble. ‘You could never bother me. What’s going on?’ Kate sighed, unable to look into your eyes. They had so much light in them because you cared so deeply about the people around you.
‘I uh don’t know what to wear to the-to the party tonight.’ Kate stuttered. You nodded your head, giving Kate the okay to continue. ‘I don’t want to wear a dress but I can’t wear a suit.’ You turned your head to the side, mirroring the way Lucky does when he hears something he doesn’t understand. It was cute.
‘Why can’t you wear one?’ You asked. It was a simple question. Why couldn’t she wear one? She had a nice dark purple suit but the nagging words of her mother and people that would attend her mother’s parties rang in her head.
Girls can’t wear suits.
You’d look better in a dress.
Couldn’t you make the effort to dress up.
What are you gay or something?’
No daughter of mine should be wearing a suit. Go change.
‘Because it’s to masculine. It’s not right.’ You hummed and walked over to her closet, moving some of the clothes out of the way.
‘Answer me this, would you be more comfortable in a suit than a dress?’ You asked, not looking back at Kate. You stopped moving clothes and Kate wondered what you were looking at.
‘Yes but -’
‘No buts.’ You turned back around. ‘You wear what makes you feel comfortable whether that be a suit, a dress, or your PJs.’ Kate laughed. ‘I’ve learned that society likes to try to fit everyone into neat and tidy boxes and when someone doesn’t fit into that box you get labeled as a freak or a disgrace.’ You walked over to Kate, cupping her face in your hands. ‘Fuck whoever told you you can’t wear what you want.’ Kate sighed and nodded. ‘Good, now go put on that purple suit I saw in there.’ She smiled, grabbed the suit out of her closet, and walked into the bathroom, closing the door behind her. She hung the suit on the shower rod, running her fingers down the lapel. The pants, vest, and jacket were a dark purple with the lapels colored black. She would wear a white long sleeve and a purple bow-tie. Before she lost her nerve, she stripped out of her sweatshirt and shorts that she was wearing, and carefully put on the suit - making sure not to wrinkle it. After it was one, she looked at herself in the mirror. It fit her perfectly. She remembered when she got it, she walked into the store by herself, and asked to get fitted for it. At the last minute, she decided against the suit, and wore a dress to the meeting. The voices in her head won. You knocked on the door.
‘Everything okay in there, Katie?’ You asked. Instead of answering, Kate opened the door and stood in front of you. Your jaw dropped, eyes scanning up and down Kate. She felt rather exposed under your intense gaze. ‘You look amazing.’ Kate blushed.
‘Thank you. You uh always seem to love the things I hate about myself. No one really knows all this about me but you. So thank you for being here for me.’ It was your turn for your cheeks to turn a dark shade of pink. You stepped closer to her, grabbing the lapel of her jacket, and kissed her cheek.
‘Of course Katie. I’m always here for you.’
*
Kate had no idea what time it was. She knew it was late, maybe 1am, and that everyone in the tower was asleep, besides Tony but that man never sleeps. Sweat was pouring down her arms as she swung her fist into the punching bag. She was bouncing on the soles of her feet, sending her left fist, right fist, and left again. Her body was screaming for her to take a break, to rest, and curl up in bed with a cheesy rom com on. But it was her mind that wouldn’t allow her to stop.
Last month, Kate was sent on a simple recon mission with direct orders to not engage. She would observe the behavior and make notes of daily schedules and report back to the team. But something went wrong. She got made and a simple recon mission turned into a deadly shootout between her and some bodyguards ending in three civilians getting killed in the crossfire.
Sam told her it wasn’t her fault, that she did the best she could.
Clint told her it wasn’t her fault, that sometimes we can’t save everyone.
Natasha told her it wasn’t her fault, that in this line of work everything is uncertain.
It didn’t make Kate feel any better. She carried the deaths of those three innocent people with her as if she was the one that pulled the trigger. She spent hours in your room, crying, yelling, and being angry with herself. Kate believed she could have prevented this whole situation if she was better, if she tried harder, and so she needed to train. She was the last one in the gym after team workouts and the first one at the shooting range in the morning. In her free time, she would go over previous mission reports and take notes on strategies and techniques that previous agents before her used.
She was so focused on getting her punches to hit harder, and to feel stronger - she didn’t hear footsteps come up behind her. ‘Kate,’ You said. She spun around quickly, being startled by another presence. Her chest rapidly rising and falling.
‘Y/n, what are you doing up?’ Your hair was sticking up and your eyes were still laced with sleep, a blanket was wrapped tightly around your shoulders.
‘I feel like I should be asking you that question. Kate, it’s two in the morning.’ Kate sighed, nodding.
‘I know I know. I just needed to get a few more sets in. I have a mission coming up.’ You smiled at her.
‘What you need is sleep.’
‘No I need to train harder, to be better. What if-what if I fail again?’ Your face softened. ‘I can’t fail again. It will break me.’ Kate shook her head. ‘Why are you up?’ She asked. Your smile fell immediately, your shoulders sunk in, and you looked so small.
‘I had a nightmare. I went to your room and you weren’t there. FRIDAY told me where to find you.’ Nightmares. Your time at HYDRA made you face horrific scenes and they made you torute individuals they deemed a threat to their cause. It plagued your mind. They were more common when you first arrived at the tower, keeping you up every night. Over time, your mind started to heal and they weren’t as frequent. But after every nightmare without fail you make your way into Kate’s room and climb into her bed. Her arms wrapped around you and you fell back to sleep instantly, safe in Kate’s arms. Kate cursed herself.
‘I’m so sorry I wasn’t there.’
‘It’s fine.’
‘It’s not fine. I told you I would be there whenever you had one and I wasn’t.’ She pinched the bridge of her nose. ‘God I can’t do anything right.’
‘Stop that,’ You wrapped your blanket around her so you were both cocooned in it. You held her tight, trying to squeeze all the self-doubt out of her. Finally, you pulled her out of the hug. ‘You are one of the strongest and smartest people I know. You have an incredible heart that cares so much for others. You are more than deserving to be on this team no matter what those voices in your head say. But,’ You pushed some of the hair out of her face that had fallen out of her pony-tail. ‘You need sleep.’ You bit her lip and scrunched your nose. ‘And a shower.’ Kate laughed, throwing her head back. When she looked back at you she was smiling. The weight of wanting to be perfect was still resting on her shoulders but you always made it seem bearable. She was constantly trying to live up to everyone’s unrealistic expectations of who she should be. ‘Let’s get you to bed?’ You questioned. Kate nodded.
‘Thank you. Whenever I over think the little things in my head you seem to always help me catch my breath.’
*
‘Why are you sulking over here?’ America asked, sitting next to Kate. She singled for the bartender.
‘I’m not sulking. I am thinking.’
‘Isn’t the point of drinking to stop thinking?’ America laughed. ‘What are you thinking about?’
‘I’m in love with y/n.’
‘I know.’ America ordered a tequila sunrise. She always said that this universe has the worst types of alcohol and if she was going to have a drink, it would be with tequila. Kate thought she was crazy.
‘You know?!?’ Kate questioned, eyes wide, and almost dropped her glass from her hand. America sipped on her drink that the bartender put in front of her.
‘I think the whole tower knows besides you,’ America laughed. ‘To make you feel better she is just as oblivious of her feelings for you.’ Kate’s jaw dropped. America closed her mouth with her finger.
‘Where is she?’ She asked.
‘Your girl went to the roof. Go get her Hawkeye.’ Kate stumbled off the barstool, almost knocking to the ground but America caught it with a laugh. She walked through the crowded floor, mumbling out apologies as stumbled into people as she ran for the elevator. She stepped in it and pushed the button for the roof. As the doors closed, she pushed it again, willing for the metal box to move faster. Finally, it opened to the roof. She found you instantly, looking out towards the city skyline. Kate took a deep breath and tried to claim her racing heart as she walked over to you
‘Hey you,’ She said leaning against the railing.
‘Hey, enjoying the party?’ Kate shrugged.
‘It’s been fun. How about you, Miss Center of Attention?’ You rolled your eyes with a groan.
‘They would not leave me alone. Thank god for America or I would have lost it.’ Kate chuckled. She bit her lip looking at your dress.
‘You look beautiful tonight.’ Kate whispered and she watched as your cheeks flushed with color.
‘Thank you.’ You faced her, fixing her jacket as it was a little disheveled from running to the elevator. ‘You don’t look half bad yourself. Whoever picked this suit is a genius.’ Kate laughed, throwing her head back.
‘Way to inflate your ego even more.’ She said, flicking your nose.
‘My ego is always inflated.’ You still had your hands on her jacket and your nose wrinkled. ‘Have you been drinking, Miss Bishop?’
‘I’ve had two drinks.’ She clicked her tongue to the roof of her mouth as she thought. ‘Well Yelena made the second one so probably like 5.’ You giggled. Kate pushed a loose hair behind your ear, staring into your (y/e/c) eyes. Her stomach dropped. She got so nervous looking into your eyes. Butterflies erupted in her stomach.
‘Y/n.’
‘Kate.’ You said with a smile. God, your smile. She pushed the anxious feeling that rose in her stomach down. Maybe Peter was right. No matter what happened you both would be friends and it could make you both happier.
‘You’re everything that I want but I didn’t think I’d find.’ Kate said, slowly watching your face for any type of reaction. ‘You are someone worth all the years of my heartbreak and all the bullshit my family put me through because it led me to you. I know now I found the one I love.’ Your eyes shined with unshed tears.
‘You’re drunk.’
‘No I’m sober.’ You turn your head to the side. ‘Okay maybe tipsy but I love the way you can’t still an hour in a day. I’m so in love we could run away because we are enough.’ Kate cupped her cheeks and brought you closer. You felt her breath against your lips. Goosebumps rose across your body. ‘Let me be a home for you; for everything, good or bad because I know it’s worth it.
‘Kate.’
‘Yes?’
‘Kiss me.’ The kiss was soft, a mixture of nerves, and uncertainty. You pulled away, ending the kiss way too soon for Kate’s liking, and rested your forehead against hers.
‘I love you Kate Bishop.’
‘I love you too.’ You pulled her into another kiss. Her hands were resting on your neck, moved down your shoulders, and landed on your waist. The kiss had more confidence as Kate pulled you closer to her.
‘Finally!’ You jumped away from Kate and looked towards the door. Peter, MJ, Yelena, and America were walking onto the roof. They had plates of food and unopened bottles of liquor in their hands. You hid your face in Kate’s neck, hiding your blush from your friends. Kate chuckled, kissing the top of her head.
‘What are you guys doing?’ Kate asked.
‘We didn’t want to miss the show.’ Yelena said, wiggling her eyebrows. America slapped her on her chest.
‘Don’t be gross. Stark is about to set off fireworks and the roof is the best place to watch.’ MJ laid out the blanket and Peter placed food he had in his hands down. Yelena started to mix a few drinks.
‘Don’t make it as strong as you made that long island.’ Kate warned. Yelena rolled her eyes.
‘It gave you courage to make a move. What is it called?’ She asked, snapping her fingers. You sat down, holding out your hand for Kate to take it.
‘Liquid courage.’ You said.
‘Yes!’ Yelena exclaimed, slapping her hand against her leg. Kate mumbled something underneath her breath. You smiled and kissed her cheek as she laid against your chest.
‘Shows about to start.’ Peter said, looking down at his phone. He put his arm around MJ and they all looked into the sky as it filled with color from Tony’s fireworks display. You hugged Kate tight as each one exploded and she looked up at you.
‘You okay?’ She asked. You smiled, kissing her forehead. As your lips touched her skin, her eyes closed, and she enjoyed the feeling.
‘I found the one I love.’

*AU where Avengers are federal agents working at SHIELD. This one shot may have a part 2 if people want one. Would people be interested in me continuing this AU into a longer work?
Summary: You have been dating John Walk for 3 years and you’ve been with him through it all, the good, the bad, and the abusive. A night out of drinking at a bar called the Avengers Sam Wilson starts to notice some concerning behaviors.
Warnings: drinking, abuse, domestic violence, bruises, non-consensual sex, mention of death, cheating.
Word Count: 6.9K
After working 12 hour shifts at the hospital, being at the local bar, the Avengers, with your boyfriend was not on your list. You rather be cocooned in blankets in your bed watching TV but you were sipping on a club soda as John threw back another shot. Dating John Walker for 3 years was a…challenge. You were with him through his deployment, his discharge from the military, his journey into the academy, and his employment as a lower level field agent. There were good moments; when he got a promotion as team lead, solving a cold case that went unsolved for 5 years, and meeting the president as he received a congressional medal of bravery. But there were bad moments, John has a drinking problem. According to him, his father was worse which scared you because he was bad. He wasn’t violent (at first) but he was degrading; constantly bringing your self-esteem down. If it wasn’t for your best friend Lemar Haskins, who became close to John when they met, to pick up the pieces you would have left him sooner. Then Lemar and John were given the Flag Smasher case, a group of radicalized thinkers, that were setting bombs across NYC and DC to further their political agenda. They weren’t making much headway until Sam and Bucky joined them. But then Lemar was killed and John did not handle it well. He used an unnecessary amount of force arresting a man that was part of the Flag Smasher resulting in his death. He was removed from the case and suspended until an internal investigation was completed. Sam took his position as a team lead. John’s a mess, a mess you couldn’t leave. He’s your mess. A mess that now left you covered in bruises and kisses as he hit you. A mess that would drunkenly scream at you then hold you close at night saying, ‘I love you.’ A mess that had a vice grip on your neck that every time you threatened to walk away, he promised he would change.
I love you. I need you. Please don’t go. I can’t lose anyone else.
Or.
No one will love you like I will. It was your fault. You made me do it.
It was an endless cycle.
*
Sam likes to pride himself in being a good judge of character and giving the people the benefit of the doubt. When he was passed for the promotion by Walker for team lead when his best friend Steve retired. He bit his tongue while Bucky, Natasha, and Clint raised hell. When Walker replaced Rhodney with Haskins he bit his tongue. It was when Walker’s task force was calling the Flag Smasher a terrorist group, Haskins was killed, and Walker was benched - Sam got involved. The case was done, the Flag Smashers were arrested and now the entire department was out celebrating a win. But Sam wasn’t listening to the table filled with his coworkers, people he considered his family. He thinks they are talking about everything they are going to do with all the free time. Sam almost laughed as the newly appointed team lead; he’s going to be lucky if he’s in the inside of his apartment again. He put his beer to his lips and watched you. You were sitting at a table with Walker, Rumlow, and Rollins. Your eyes were glued to the drink in front of you, stirring it. Sam had only said a handful of words to you every time his path crossed yours at Avengers, most of the time Walker had you tucked away underneath his arm. But Sam couldn’t stop thinking about you. When you smiled, it made your nose crinkle. Your eyes seemed to glow underneath the lights of the bar. He made you laugh, a simple jab at Bucky, but the sound replayed in his head. Tonight, something was off. When Walker laughed too loud, you flinched. When Rollins brought another round over you hid your displeasure well. But when you tried to leave the table, Walker raised his hand and you flinched again. Sam’s grip on his beer tightened. He watched as Walker placed a piece of hair that came undo from your braid behind your ear and kissed you, whispering something in your ear. Whatever he said you blushed and bit your lip. You left the table and headed towards the restroom, Walker intensely staring at your back.
‘I’m gonna head to the bathroom.’ Sam quickly said, following your path.
*
You stared at your reflection in the bathroom mirror. For a bar, the bathroom was surprisingly clean; the only sound was the running water of the sink. You splashed cold water against your face, making you shiver. Stupid you were stupid. It had been a long day at work plus dealing with John at home so when his voice got a little loud or when he reached for your face you couldn’t help but flinch away. All night you noticed Sam watching you and if he saw, he would ask questions and questions would lead to lies. Lying to your coworkers and friends was easy; they weren’t trained professionals to detect if someone lied. You dried your face off with a sigh and left the bathroom, almost running into the man you wanted to avoid. Sam Wilson.
‘Sam, I am so sorry. I didn’t expect the door to open.’ Sam laughed, shaking his head.
‘It’s alright, sunflower.’ You smiled at the nickname. You wore a white dress with a sunflower on it your first time at the Avengers. The nickname stuck, everyone called you it. John hated the nickname. ‘How are you? How’s work?’ You fought back a groan, ignoring the ache in your feet.
‘Busy. I’ve been pulling 12 hour shifts for the past 2 weeks at the hospital.’ Sam’s mouth hung open at your statement.
‘Why the hell are you here? I would be dead on my feet.’
‘Trust me I am.’ You sighed. ‘John wanted to see everyone so here I am.’ You swore you saw Sam’s eyes roll but you weren’t sure.
‘Let me buy you a drink as a thank you for all you do.’
‘Shouldn’t I be buying you one?’ You asked with a chuckle, feeling your stomach twist with anxiety ‘I should be getting back. John said we would be leaving soon.’ It was a lie.
‘Come on. Walker gets you all the time. A few minutes without you won’t kill the man.’ Sam pleaded. You hesitated. ‘Unless you don’t want to.’ Sam added giving you an out.
‘No, no it’s fine. No alcohol though I’m DDing.’ Sam walked you to the bar, ordering another beer for himself and you got a shirley temple. You sat in a comfortable silence as the bartender made you your drink. You never had a problem with Sam and despite what John says about the man, you enjoy his company. The bartender placed your drink down in front of you, and you took a slow sip; savoring the taste. You do a small dance at the taste. Sam chuckled. ‘Sorry, I don’t drink these a lot.’ You blushed
‘No please be happy. It’s nice. Why don’t you drink them anymore?’ You shrugged. You knew the answer. John said they were childish. You aren’t the biggest fan of drinking, you’ve seen your fair share of horror scenes at the hospital due to someone having a little too much to drink. And if that didn’t turn you off from drinking - John’s behavior did.
‘I kind of forget about them.’ You lied. Sam raised his eyebrows. ‘Congratulations on stopping the Flag Smasher,’ You said quickly, trying to move the conversation away from yourself. ‘I saw your speech at work. I’m sorry about Karli too. I think her heart was in the right place in the beginning.’ Sam sighed.
‘I hope positive change can come from all of this.’
‘With you at the helm it will.’ You sincerely said.
‘Don’t inflate my ego anymore.’ You laughed, throwing your head back.
‘Please according to Bucky your head can’t fit into any building.’ Sam groaned.
‘Do not listen to anything that geezer says.’ You laughed again. It felt so good to laugh so freely without the weight of someone judging you.
‘Geezer? Aren’t you older than him?’
‘Sh. Scream it from the roof top why don’t you?’ You giggled, a bright smile on your face. But the smile formed into a frown and you sighed when your name was drunkenly called out. You take another ship when you hear footsteps approaching you.
‘Babygirl, it’s time to head out. The guys want to get pizza.’ John put his arm around your shoulders. You fought your body’s natural reaction and leaned into his embrace instead. You felt John tense as he was looking at Sam, ‘Wilson.’
‘Walker.’ There was a tension between the two you didn’t like.
‘I’ll be right behind you, let me just pay for my drink.’ You shot Sam a look, pleading with him to not say he was the one that brought it.
‘Okay, close my tab as well.’ He kissed you. His lips linger longer than normal. You grimaced at the taste of alcohol on his lips as he pulled away, walking back to his table. You let out a forced breath and called over the bartender.
‘Are you okay?’ Sam asked. He watched as your hands shook as you got your card out of your wallet.
‘I’m fine.’ You hand the bartender your card and tell him you are closing John’s tap. ‘Thank you for the drink Sam.’ You turned to leave.
‘Hey sunflower,’ You stopped and faced him. ‘You need anything you know where to find me, okay?’ You stared at him for a moment, the confession of who John Walker truly is on the tip of your tongue. But you held it in.
‘Uh thank you Sam.’ You finally said.
*
Sam watched as John put his arm around you and pulled you close, as the rest of the table followed close behind. From the very beginning of his career at SHIELD, he learned to listen to his gut and his gut was telling him that something was very wrong. But he had no evidence. He saw you flinch away from his touch but that could because you were tired. A lawyer would throw away this case in a heartbeat. He sighed and walked back to the table, flopping back into his chair. ‘Are you okay Sam?’ Wanda asked.
‘Yeah, yeah I’m great.’ Wanda gave him a look. She didn’t work with SHIELD but she was married to Vision, who was a computer analyst. She was part of the family nonetheless. She always seemed to know what someone was truly thinking, like she could read their minds.
‘Did y/n leave already? I didn’t get the chance to talk to her.’ Sam nodded, drinking the rest of his beer.
‘John wanted pizza so they went to get pizza.’ Sam said bitterly. Wanda and Bucky shared a look with one another. ‘What do you know about their relationship?’
‘They’ve been together for 3 years. I think Lemar was the one that brought them together. That’s really all I know.’ Wanda said.
‘Where is your head at Sam?’ Bucky asked.
‘My head is nowhere.’ He heard Clint mumble, ‘Bullshit,’ under his breath. Sam groaned. ‘I think Walker is hurting her. I just don’t know to what extent or I’m reading into to much because-’
‘Because you love her.’ Natasha cut him off. Sam’s jaw dropped. He opened and closed his mouth like a fish out of water as Natasha smirked into her drink. Bucky closed his mouth, the table laughed.
‘I don’t love her. I care about her. There is a difference.’ Sam defended. Natasha shrugged, rolling her eyes. ‘And I can’t ask her because she would deny it.’
‘Especially since he hangs around her all the time,’ Maria added. ‘He has a leash around her neck.’
‘You just need to get her alone, a safe space, and around people she can trust.’ Clint said. Yeah, easier said than done, Sam thought.
‘How about tomorrow? Steve and I were thinking about throwing a small pool party. We can invite her.’ Natasha suggested, getting out her phone and sending a quick text.
‘I’ll invite her,’ Wanda said. ‘I have her phone number and I’m the closest to her out of any of you, it won’t look so suspicious.’
‘And if Walker is hitting her? What are we going to do?’ Bucky asked.
‘She’s family,’ Sam said simply. ‘And we help our family.’
*
You ungracefully unlocked the door to your shared apartment as John kept pushing your hair to the side and kissing at your neck. ‘Let me open the door first.’ You said. John groaned, pulling himself away from you.
‘Can’t help it baby. You looked so good tonight.’ You rolled your eyes and opened the door. You threw your purse on the chair and hung up your keys as John closed the door. You took your shoes off, almost moaning as the pressure on your sore feet was released. You laid on the couch and watched John walk into the kitchen, opening the fridge, and grabbed a beer. You sighed and closed your eyes, feeling the couch move as John sat down next to you. It was nice, quiet, peaceful, and sleep was calling your name. But you felt John staring at you. You slowly opened your eyes, locking onto his. He took a long sip of the beer and placed it on the table. ‘What’s going on, Johnny?’ You asked, sitting up. It took a moment for John to speak, he grabbed your legs and started to massage your calves.
‘Are you cheating on me with Wilson?’ He finally asked.
‘What? No!’ You said, pulling your legs away from him. ‘We were just talking.’ He pushed you onto the couch, your head hitting the arm rest. He quickly covered your body with his.
‘Good because you are mine.’
‘John, wait!’
‘Wait?’ He questioned grabbing your waists and forcing your hands above your head. ‘You don’t get to say no to me. Did you say no to Wilson when he asked if he could buy you a drink?’ He squeezed your wrist. You whimpered. ‘Answer me!’ He demanded
‘No.’ You cried.
‘Exactly. You were being a slut and sluts get punished.’
*
You laid in your bed, staring at the ceiling. The blanket wrapped tightly around your naked body and John’s snores echoing in the quiet room. You got up, wincing and grabbed a shirt from the floor. It was one of John’s old academy shirts - it went to the middle of your thighs. You quietly made your way to the kitchen, each step hurting. You were lucky it was your day off because these bruises would be impossible to cover up. You filled a glass of water from the sink and down it, filling it again. Your hands shook slightly and your eyes fell on a picture on the wall. It was a picture of you, John, and Lemar at John’s parents’ lake house. You couldn’t remember why the party was being thrown but it was the first family function as his girlfriend. He paraded you around as he wore his military uniform with pride. He introduced you to them, saying that he’d marry you. But as you both walked away from whoever you just met, he’d look you in the eyes and said it was just a joke. A way to get them off his back. But he’d kiss you in a way that made your heart jump and after every new introduction got you hoping one day he would mean it. That party was 2 years ago. You sighed, cleaned the glass, and put it back. You made your way back to bed. As you slipped underneath the covers, John rolled over and wrapped his arm around your waist, pulling you close to his chest.
‘I love you babygirl.’ He mumbled.
‘I love you too Johnny.’
*
You woke up to the smell of food and the sound of the bedroom door opening. You opened your eyes, rubbing sleep out of them as John walked in with your favorite breakfast. You sat up, masking the pain your body was in, and smiled. ‘What’s all this?’ He placed the tray on your lap - you could smell the cinnamon from the french toast. A small vase was filled with flowers. He kissed your cheek.
‘Good morning beautiful. I thought I would do something nice for you.’ He shrugged. ‘Mostly to say I’m sorry for last night and thank you for taking care of me. I know when I drink I can be a handful.’
‘Well apologize accepted.’ It tasted bitter in your mouth. He sat at the edge of the bed, watching you eat. He swiped a piece of bacon off your plate, and you gave him a playful glare. He chuckled. ‘What’s your plan for today?’ You asked.
‘The guys and I are going fishing. They should be here shortly to pick me up and I won’t be back till late tonight.’ You felt a weight come off your shoulders. ‘What about you? Today is your day off.’ You nodded.
‘May see if some of the girls want to get together or may just have a lazy day.’ The first order of business was to tend to your bruises or they would take longer to heal.
‘Well you deserve whatever you choose. You deserve to have a day to yourself, you work too hard.’ You gave him a smile. He confused you, it was like a switch went on and off and on and off. From a loving boyfriend that would cook breakfast, and massage your back after a long day to an angry, drunk monster that would leave bruises all over your body. ‘I plugged your phone in this morning. You have some texts from Wanda?’
‘That’s Vis’s wife.’
‘The lab techy.’ You nodded. ‘Why does she have your number?’ His tone shifted.
‘Her son broke his arm and I was the doctor on call at the time. She recognized me from the bar.’ John nodded as his phone went off.
‘That’s the guys. Have a great day. I love you.’
‘I love you too Johnny.’ He left the room, you laid back with a sigh. You touched the petals on the flowers. Flowers weren’t just used for big apologies. It was a theme. He would hurt you then the next morning he would bring you breakfast in bed with a vase of flowers. You picked up your phone that rested on your nightstand. There were multiple texts from Wanda.
Wanda: Hey! Sorry we didn’t talk a lot tonight. Sam said you were headed home. Text me when you are back.
Wanda: Oh Sam said you are getting pizza. Eat a slice for me. You giggled at that.
Wanda: Alright you should be home now unless you got A LOT of pizza.
Wanda: Y/n.
Wanda: So, you are home. I definitely didn’t have Vis track your phone.
‘Isn’t that illegal?’ You asked, very aware that you were alone in your apartment and no one was there to answer you.
Wanda: Don’t tell Sam though. She added a winky face. You laughed, typing a quick reply back.
You: I’m alive. Dealt with a very drunk John and passed out. You sighed at the lie as you hit send. Wanda’s response was almost instant.
Wanda: Do you have plans today? You bit your lip.
You: John left for an all day fishing trip and I have today off. So just a day to myself. You hit send and your phone started to ring. Wanda’s name appeared. With a sigh, you answered it.
‘Good morning, Wands.’
‘Morning sunflower. So, you are free today?’ Wanda asked.
‘In a way.’ You said slowly.
‘In a way,“ she mocked. You giggled. ‘Nat and Steve are having a cookout today and we wanted to invite you.’
‘Who’s we?’ You questioned.
‘Me, Sam, Bucky, Nat, just to name a few.’ She responded. Your anxiety spiked.
‘John isn’t here,’ You said quickly. ‘I don’t want to intrude.’
‘You aren’t,’ Wanda said. ‘We want you to be there. Please.’ You pinched the bridge of your nose, thinking about everything. If you said you weren’t going that would be suspicious especially because Sam was going to be there. But if you decide to go - how would you hide the bruises? Shit. ‘‘I’ll drive! I mean you’ll have to deal with the kids.’
‘Is Vision not going?’ You asked. Vision and Wanda were the definition of soulmates. It was cute. Wanda sighed.
‘No, he has to work. Some of the departments got half days but Vis has to work his full shift. So, what do you say?’ She asked, you could tell by her voice that she was pouting. You sighed, looking at the alarm clock on your nightstand.
‘What time?’ You finally asked.
‘I can pick you up at 12:30, send me your address. Oh and bring a swimsuit, they have a pool.’
‘Okay I will see you soon.’
‘Bye.’ You said your goodbyes and hung up. With a groan, you flopped back down, the tray on your lap almost tipping over. The breakfast would grow cold because you couldn’t stomach it. What have you gotten yourself into?
*
Getting ready was slow work. You took a hot shower to soothe your aching muscles and applied a healing appointment you took from the hospital onto your bruises. The ones on your arms and upper thighs could be covered by a dress - you had a long sleeve one that you had in mind. But it was the bruise on your throat that would be more difficult. You carefully covered it with make-up, taking your time as it was still sore to touch. You looked at yourself in the mirror and admired your handy-work. The bruise was completely gone, you almost laughed. If your job at the hospital fell through you could always go into makeup. You just had to avoid the water, at a pool party. Double shit.
*
You received a text message from Wanda telling you that she was outside your appointment. You put your bag over y0ur shoulder and double checked you had everything - a swimsuit, extra make-up, your wallet, and a water bottle. You sighed and left your appointment.
Wanda was standing outside of her car, leaning against the hood. When she saw you, her smile got big and she waved. You couldn’t help the smile that came so easily to your face. ‘Sunflower!’ She said, pulling you into a hug. You bit your lip, stopping the sound of pain from coming out of your lips. ‘You look so cute!’ She said, pulling away from you.
‘Thank you Wands. I like your dress too.’ She was wearing a simple white dress, her blue swimsuit could be seen through it.
‘Let’s get going before my boys throw a tantrum.’ You laughed as you got into the passenger side, placing your bag on the floor.
‘Hello boys.’ You said, glancing at Tommy and Billy.
‘Hello Dr. L/N.’ You grimaced.
‘Ew. No it’s y/n. Don’t make me feel that old.’ They laughed, placing their headphones back on and getting lost in their phones.
‘How are you?’ Wanda asked, pulling onto the road and starting the drive. You sighed.
‘Tired.’ Wanda gave you a small smile, grabbing onto your hand, and squeezing it.
‘Well today is a day for relaxation.’ You smiled, hoping that was all today was going to bring.
*
Sam found himself watching you again, as he sat at the edge of the pool with his legs dangling in the water. You were sitting at a table with Laura and Maria. You were smiling at something Laura was telling you. Steve and Natasha were finishing the food while Clint and Yelena swam around with the kids. Bucky sat next to him. ‘She seems happy.’ Bucky said. Sam nodded.
‘I would be happy too if Walker wasn’t around.’ Silence passed between the two. ‘Do you find it weird she’s wearing a long sleeve dress on such a nice day?’
‘Maybe it’s laundry day.’ Sam gave Bucky a glare. ‘Aren’t you the one that never passes judgment onto a person?’
‘You hate Walker.’ Sam said simply.
‘Yes but I also don’t want to believe he’s hitting Sunflower.’ Wanda sat on the other side of Sam, passing them both a water. Bucky thanked her with a nod as he opened it.
‘Don’t worry,’ She said. ‘I have a plan.’ She pointed to her kids, Clint’s kids, and Clint, getting out of the pool and angling themselves towards the table. The three watched as they ran and jumped into the pool. The splash caused by the group soaked the table.
‘Clint!’ Laura shirked. Clint resurfaced with a laugh.
‘Might as well come in now that you are all wet!’ Clint called out.
‘Look at her face.’ Sam said. The other two women were annoyed but they took off their covers and climbed into the pool. You were frozen. You didn’t get that wet but you shook off your shock and walked to the edge of the pool and sat down, putting your feet in.
‘Go talk to her.’ Bucky said, nugging Sam with his shoulder. Sam nodded, got into the pool and swam over.
‘Sunflower, I’m glad you could grace us with your presence.’ You rolled your eyes.
‘I can’t say no to free food and drinks.’ You smirked. ‘Wanda also mentioned playing pool and I had to come and kick your butts.’ Sam laughed, shaking his head.
‘Oh she talks a big game. I like to tell you Barton and I are raining champs.’
‘For now.’
‘The water is nice,’ Sam said. ‘Food won’t be ready for a while. Might as well get in.’ He added.
‘Not a big swimmer.’ Sam raised his eyebrows. ‘I don’t want to get my hair wet.’ Sam rolled his eyes.
‘I don’t understand girls.’ You giggled.
‘You aren’t supposed to Wilson.’ You splashed the water with your legs, you looked lost in your thoughts and Sam let you sit in them. ‘I’m surprised you are here,’ You said suddenly. ‘The new team lead and you are already slacking.’ Your voice was full of teasing. Sam gasped playfully and slapped his hand against his chest.
‘Your words wound me.’ You smiled. ‘And for your information Fury gave me the day off.’ You hummed and looked around the pool area, your eyes stopping at each person.
‘You got yourself a good team, Wilson. I’m excited to see what you do with it.’ Sam’s chest filled with pride at your compliment.
‘All I needed was your confidence in me.’ Sam said softly. There was something in your eyes as you looked at him, something he couldn’t name. A light blush covered your cheeks.
‘You’ve always had it.’ It happened rather suddenly. Sam was so caught up in looking at you he didn’t see Tommy and Billy come up behind you. They pushed you in the pool, giggling as they ran away. You resurfaced with a gasp. Sam grabbed onto your waist and helped you grab onto the edge of the pool. You coughed up water, surprised by the sudden push, and you whipped the water out of your eyes. You saw Sam looking at you but not at your face, at your neck. Your stomach dropped and it felt like you were being pushed into the pool all over again.
‘Y/n.’ He said slowly, raising his hand. You flinched away from him. His face dropped.
‘I-i have to go.’ You climbed out of the pool, almost slipping on the wet surface. You made a beeline towards the table where your bag was and grabbed it. Sam called out your name again. You turned around and saw him getting out of the pool, the sudden commotion grabbed the attention of everyone in the backyard. All of their eyes were on you and you felt claustrophobic. You ran to the outdoor bathroom, closing and locking the door being you.
‘Sunflower, open the door please.’ You heard Sam say from behind the closed door. You sank to the floor, back against the door, and hugged your knees to your chest. You tried to muffle the sound of your sobs but they grew louder and you had no idea why you were crying. Maybe you were crying out of panic. Sam saw the bruise. What was going to happen? What was he going to do? Or maybe you were crying out of relief. Someone finally knew the pain you were holding on too. Someone could finally set you free.

Sam couldn’t stand still. When he saw the hand print on your neck, he saw red. It took Maria, Wanda, Natasha, and Laura to get you out of the bathroom and the 5 of you were in one of the guest bedrooms. Yelena was watching the kids. That left Steve, Clint, Bucky, and Sam outside all of their blood’s boiling.
‘I’m going to kill him.’ Bucky growled. Sam nodded, still pacing.
‘Get in line, pal. How could he do that? Especially to her.’ Clint asked, standing up and moving behind his chair. His hands squeezing the top of it, his knuckles turning white.
‘We aren’t going to do anything.’ Steve said. They all looked at Steve, mouths open.
‘Did you not see the bruise on her neck?’ Bucky asked. Steve sighed, nodding his head.
‘I did. I don’t know y/n well but I do know she wouldn’t want all of you to risk your careers over this,’ He said simply. ‘Do you think that is maybe why she didn’t tell any of you?’ Sam understood where Steve was coming from. He was the voice of reason of the group, constantly talking Bucky and Sam out of doing stupid things. But it didn’t make Sam feel any better. Right now Sam wanted to be angry, be upset, and punch John Walker in the face.
The sound of the sliding glass door caused Sam to stop pacing. Natasha was standing there, arms crossed against her chest, and her jaw clenched. There was a fire in her eyes that shocked Sam. It stumped everyone into silence. ‘That bad?’ Sam asked, finding his voice. Natasha nodded.
‘She didn’t tell us everything. Maria documented her injuries.’
‘Is she reporting him?’ Steve asked. Natasha shrugged. Sam could tell Natasha was fighting to control her anger.
‘She didn’t give us a direct answer,’ She sighed. ‘Laura and Maria are finishing the food. Wanda is still with her. We think it would be best if you guys stay out here.’ A chorus of ‘of course’, ‘absolutely’, and ‘whatever she needs’ moved across the men. Natasha looked at Sam. ‘She wants to speak with you.’
‘Me?’ She nodded as Sam walked into the house and she stopped him.
‘Prepare yourself. He did a number on her.’ Sam nodded, walking into the house.
To say he was surprised was an understatement that you wanted to speak with him. In less than 24 hours he’s said more words to you than every interaction you both had at Avengers. He was nervous, a coil of anxiety wrapped around his stomach, as he walked to the guest room. He sighed, trying to steady his racing heart. ‘It’s me.’ He said, keeping his voice steady.
‘Come in.’ Wanda called out. Sam opened the door and saw you sitting on the edge of the bed, Wanda kneeling in front of you. He saw your body shaking. ‘Do you want me to stay?’ Wanda asked. You shook her head, in a no. ‘Okay if you need me come get me.’ You nodded again. Wanda gave Sam a smile as she left - closing the door behind her. Sam went to take Wanda’s spot, he kept his face neutral as he looked at you. Your hair was damp from the pool and you were wearing one of Steve’s shirts and a pair of Natasha’s shorts. He could see more bruises lacing your skin and his gut twisted with anger. He partially blamed himself. He knew he should have said something at the bar, anything to make you stay.
‘Hey Sunflower.’ Sam kept his voice soft, not wanting to trigger you. ‘What do you need?’ You let out a shaky breath.
‘I don’t know Sam.’ You whispered as tears started to run down your face. Sam fought every muscle in his body to not wrap in his arms and wipe away your tears. ‘I’m scared. He’s never been this violent before. Before he would just yell a lot.’
‘Is this the first time he’s hit you?’ He asked. You couldn’t look him in the eyes, you were playing with the bottom of your shit. You were a doctor. You’ve sat with men and women as they cried because they felt stuck in their relationship and you’ve given them the resources to get away. Maybe if you were more conscious of how he spoke to you, you wouldn’t be in this position in the first place. Maybe you were holding onto what you thought he was.
‘No.’ You finally spoke. ‘It got bad after Lemar’s death.’ Sam nodded, with a sad smile.
‘Do you want to leave him?’ Sam asked. You didn’t answer. ‘This isn’t okay,’ You opened your mouth to say something. ‘And this is not your fault either.’
‘He keeps saying he’ll stop. That he loves me.’
‘This isn’t love,’ Sam said softly.
‘There is a version of him in my head before all of this started happening. That he loves me and will stop hurting me,’ Your fingers danced over the bruises on your arms, thighs, and stopped at the one on your throat. ‘But I know that picture isn’t true. My mom used to tell me, that young people fall in love with the wrong people, guess my one was him.’ You looked at Sam. ‘Please help me leave him. Please.’ You pulled him into a hug. Without hesitation, Sam wrapped his arms around you.
‘I got you. You’re safe. He’s never going to hurt you again.’

The cookout at Steve’s and Natasha was 6 months ago. Within the week of everyone finding out, Sam and the other’s helped you move out of the apartment and into Sam’s guest room. You reported the abuse and although the charges didn’t stick, (Everyone believed that Rumlow had a hand in it.)John was fired from SHIELD and you filed a restraining order. You learned after the break up that John was cheating on you. The fishing trips weren’t ‘fishing’ trips. It was a hard 6 months of healing but you felt freer. You felt like your old self. You laughed loudly. You smiled more. You became closer with everyone. You got invited to team dinners and drinks at Avengers. None of this healing wouldn’t have happened without Sam. He was there through every panic attack and nightmare. He helped heal your mind, body, and heart. In return, you made sure he took breaks from the case and you gave him a source of light in the abyss. It wasn’t a surprise when you started to develop feelings for the man that saved you and you told him. He felt the same but wanted to take it slow. You were still healing and that made you love him even more.
*
It was another drinking night at Avengers, you were practically sitting on Sam’s lap. His arms wrapped around your waist. His head resting on your shoulder as you listened to Clint to talk about his kids. He was tracing shapes on your thigh - knowing being at this bar caused some anxiety but you refused for John to take this place away from you. You looked around the table. Bucky was smiling with his arm around Yelena. Wanda was resting her head on Vision’s shoulder. Bruce and Tony were at the bar. You saw some of the younger agents, Kate, Peter, and America at the ‘kids’ table. Even Nat and Steve showed up. Nat still worked for SHIELD but she was starting to put in for retirement. You heard through the grapevine that they were going to try for a kid. You loved the idea of a mini Steve and Natasha running around. Sam kissed your cheek and you saw Bucky move to whisper something in his ear. You didn’t think much of it as Sam tightened his hold on you.
‘Walker,’ You looked towards the door with wide eyes. Maria was the one who confronted John. ‘You weren’t welcomed here.’ His eyes scanned the room and he found you. He walked over to your table. Bucky, Clint, and Steve stood up. Steve placed a hand on Natasha’s shoulder keeping her from standing.
‘Get your hands off my girl, Wilson.’ John said. Sam laughed.
‘She’s not your girl, Walker.’
‘So she’s yours now?’ Sam shook his head.
‘She’s her own person. Maybe that is why things turned out the way they did - you see her as something to own and to control.’ You watched as John’s hands turned into fists. You knew he wasn’t that stupid, to start a fist fight in a room of trained agents. ‘Now I suggest you walk back the way you came because you are violating the restraining order and you are in a room filled with federal agents.’ John laughed - you fought to keep yourself from having a reaction.
‘Not without her.’
‘Go home John. Leave me alone.’ You found your voice. You saw how blood shut his eyes were.
‘I didn’t think I gave you permission to speak. I guess Wilson can’t control you like I could. Now be a good little slut and keep your mouth shut. The adults are talking.’ Natasha stood up quickly causing the table to move. You got off Sam’s lap and stood in front of him, putting your hand up to stop them. You felt your blood boiling. You were angry. You were frustrated that he would not leave you alone - you had to get a new phone number and security at your job had to remove him from the hospital multiple times.
‘Go home John, you’re drunk and making a fool out of yourself.’ You said turning around. He grabbed your arm. You pulled it back. ‘Leave before I let them kick your ass.’
‘I knew you were sucking Wilson’s dick while we were together. Who else did you get to? Barnes? Barton?’
‘I didn’t cheat on you John unlike you.’ You laughed, shaking your head. ‘You weren’t even man enough to tell me yourself that you were seeing her. She told me on Facebook and told me all about your little ‘fishing trips’.’ You added the air quotes as you looked over John’s shoulder. ‘Hey Rumlow, does your wife know about your little guy’s trips to the lake?’
‘You are nothing without me.’
‘I am everything without you,’ You said, pointing at him. ‘You are the one that broke me even Lemar told me to leave you.’
‘Don’t you bring him into this.’ John said, stepping closer to you. You knew the table behind you was on edge. But you had to face him. You couldn’t hide behind them anymore.
‘Before he was your friend he was mine.’ You pushed John on the chest, pushing him into the center of the bar.
‘Y/n.’ Sam warned. You ignored him.
‘You wouldn’t even let me mourn him without you screaming at me, saying I wasn’t his friend. Do you remember that night he died?’ You asked.
‘He was murdered!’ He yelled
‘And you killed a man that wasn’t the person responsible for it. Do you remember that night John?’ You asked again. He didn’t respond. You raised your arm pointing to a scar. ‘How did I get this scar, Johnny?’ He licked his lips. ‘I’ll tell your former co-workers. I was looking for comfort after learning my best fucking friend since I was a kid was murdered and what did you do? You took the empty vodka bottle and smashed it against my arm. Who are you to tell me I can’t be heartbroken?’ The bar was silent, a pin could be dropped and you could hear it. ‘12 stitches and you bought me flowers and I stayed.’ You shook your head.
‘I kinda hate myself for justifying your mistakes. It took a minute but I learned the shit the hard way that you ruined me. So if you need to tell yourself that it was all my fault, that I made you do all those horrible things to help you sleep at night then do it and pretend that I haven’t found a man who finally treats me right. If it’s hurting, then leave, and go get some fucking help.’ You took another step forward. ‘Get the fuck out of this bar, Walker. You lost.’ You turned back to your table and sat down.
‘I would listen to her.’ Bucky said.
‘Fucking crazy bitch.’ John said, turning and leaving. Slamming the bar door behind him. The bar erupted into claps and cheers. You laughed with a smile.
‘Now that was amazing.’ Clint said.
‘I definitely thought he was going to shit himself.’ Yelena smiled.
‘We are going to have to report him. He violated the terms of the restraining order.’ Vision said.
‘That’s tomorrow’s problem.’ Wanda said, kissing his cheek. ‘Let the girl celebrate a win.’ Sam pulled you back onto his lap, you spun around to face him.
‘You okay sunflower?’ You looked at him, smiling. Your eyes glanced to his lips and you pulled him into a soft kiss. You felt him smile through it. You pulled away, resting your forehead against his.
‘I will be.’

Summary: You and Yelena have been dating for a few months after a bad nightmare about the Red Room Yelena wakes up and injures you. You assure her that you are not going anywhere.
Warnings: nightmare, mention of a gun, blood, dead bodies, injuries, sweating
Word count: 2.5k
If you were to ask what Yelena’s favorite color was? She would say yellow because it reminded her of the first time she felt the sun after the dust was given to her and her mind was her own. She would say blue because she found out that she really likes blueberry pancakes in the morning for breakfast. She would say purple because you wore a purple dress the first time she saw you. If you were to ask Yelena what her favorite color was, she would say every color in the rainbow besides red. Red was the color of blood, of the dust that freed widows from Dreykov’s mind control, and the years she lost because one man tried to play God. She associated the color red with small rooms where she was handcuffed to the bed, hours of ballet lessons, and combat training that she was forced to endure. Red was the place she was separated from her sister. And in her nightmares, red was all Yelena saw.
Her hands were covered in it. The white room she was trapped in was painted with blood from the growing pile of bodies around her. No matter how hard she struggled against the door and banged on the wall, her pleas went unheard as she stared at the color red.

The sound of whimpering woke you up. With sleep in your eyes, you struggled to turn on the lamp on your nightstand. Light illuminated the small bedroom, as you watched your girlfriend whimper in her sleep. Brow together and sweat lightly shining on her forehead. Nightmares. You remember Natasha pulling you aside when Yelena told her that you both were dating, that nightmares were going to be a thing you’ll have to deal with. Her girlfriend, Maria, gave you tips on how to wake a Black Widow from a nightmare. Don’t touch them. Speak calmly. And if that doesn’t work a bucket filled with cold water should do the trick.
‘No please not her.’ Yelena whimpered and your heart broke at the sight. Your girlfriend hid the parts of herself that were damaged by the Red Room with a bright smile and a light laugh. You knew the basics of what Yelena and Natasha and hundreds of other girls across the world went through by the hands of Dreykov.
*
The door opened and two Widows held onto the arms of a person with a bag over their face. Years of training, Yelena could tell it was a girl, in her mid-to-late 20s, and in decent shape. The Widows threw the girl to the ground and a pained whimper filled the quiet room. They stepped to the side and he came in. Dreykov. He held a simple handgun in his hand and he circled Yelena, like a lion hunting its prey.
‘You have grown weak.’ He said. ‘You were once the world’s greatest child assassin.’ He nodded his head and the Widow pulled the bag off the girl’s head. Yelena fought every nerve in her body to go not over and hug you, to kiss you, and to whisper that everything was going to be okay. You were bleeding, a cut on the side of your head and one of your eyes were black and blue. Dreykov put the gun in Yelena’s hand and forced her to aim at you. ‘Kill your weakness.’
‘No please not her.’ Yelena heard herself plead.
*
You sat up slowly, trying not to shake the bed too much and not to startle Yelena awake. ‘Yelena, wake up. You’re dreaming, sweet girl. I just need you to wake up.’ You whispered, keeping your voice even, calm though your heart was racing.
‘Come on Lena, come back to me. You’re safe.’ You said, a little bit louder trying to pierce whatever images her mind was creating. You sighed, shifting slightly in the bed, and catching yourself from falling. The sudden movement caused Yelena to bolt straight up and grab onto your throat. She was squeezing your windpipe, cutting off your air supply. Now you aren’t a superhero, an agent of SHIELD, or a trained assassin of the Red Room but you lived in NYC all of your life. You’ve learned how to defend yourself and it doesn’t hurt that you’ve sparred with your girlfriend and Natasha. You flipped her over, grabbing a pressure point on her wrist and she released you. You fell to the foot of your bed, gasping for air. Yelena gasped and shook her head, clearing the fog from her nightmare. She stared at you. Her green eyes filled with concern and worry.
‘Y/n.’ Yelena said, softly. You started coughing, rubbing your throat. Her eyes grew wide and frantic.
‘I’m okay,’ You said, your voice was a little rough and you cleared your throat before continuing. ‘You were having a nightmare. It’s okay.’ Yelena crawled over to you. You removed the hand that was covering your throat. She scanned over the skin, her fingertips dancing over the bruise and goosebumps formed over your skin and a small shiver went down your spin. The bruise that was forming would be there for a few days but there was no sign of damage. But she did this. She hurt you.
‘I should go.’ Yelena scrambled out of the bed and left your room. After the shock wore off, you ungracefully got out of bed and tripped over the fallen blanket and ran to the front door, calling after Yelena. But when you got to the front door, Yelena was nowhere to be found. Your apartment was quiet.
‘Fuck.’ You cursed, running back to your room and grabbing your phone from the nightstand. You saw that Yelena didn’t grab hers and panic started to race through you. Without thinking you dialed Natasha’s number from memory. The first time it rang it went to voicemail. You groaned, calling her again.
‘Why are you calling me at 2 in the morning?’ Natasha asked, voice deeper than normal.
‘Yelena is gone.’ The other end was silent and you heard the creak of a bed moving.
‘What do you mean Yelena is gone?’ Natasha questioned. You sighed, running your hand through your hair and sat down on your bed. Which felt colder.
‘We got back late from our date and I suggested that she just sleepover,’ You started to explain. ‘She hasn’t stayed over before. She was having a nightmare and I woke her up. I didn’t touch her but she was startled and she grabbed onto my throat.’ Natasha swore in Russian. ‘I’m fine and I told her that it was okay but she just got up and left and didn’t take her phone. I don’t know what to do.’
‘Just stay home and I’ll find her.’ Natasha promised. You nodded your head even though she couldn’t see it.
‘Okay keep me posted please.’ You felt useless but you knew if anyone was going to find Yelena, it would be Natasha.
‘Of course.’ She paused. ‘Are you really okay?’ She asked softly. You smiled, your fingers touching the bruise on your throat.
‘I’m fine Nat. I’m here to stay. I just want her to come home.’

2 days. Two days after Yelena walked out, Natasha and Maria were giving you updates almost hourly as they followed leads after leads but it appeared Yelena didn’t want to be found. You called out of work for the rest of the week, rebooking client appointments. It was 9:30pm as you stood at the stove top, stirring Mac and Cheese when the handle of the front door started to move. It was locked. You always checked your front door, every time you walked by it. You lived in a decent part of the city but it was still New York. You grabbed the gun that Yelena placed underneath the island and pointed it at the door as it opened. You almost laughed as you held the gun, pf the memory when you stumbled upon it.
‘You need protection!’ Yelena argued.
‘I have you don’t I? How much more protection do I need?’
As the door opened, Yelena stood there holding onto her right side. You blinked at her as she gave you a small smile. Her lip was split, a bruise on her cheek bone, and a few other cuts scattered across her face. You blinked again. Your brain was unable to determine if Yelena was actually standing there or you were finally losing your mind.
‘Hi, dorogoy.’ Yelena said.
‘Yelena.’ You whispered, placing the gun down, turning off the stove, and catching her in your arms. You dragged her to your couch, gently sitting her down. ‘Don’t move.’ You ordered and rushed to the bathroom, grabbing the first aid kit and two bags of frozen peas from the freezer. It wasn’t the first time you’ve had to clean Yelena’s wounds and you knew it would not be the last. Yelena was still sitting where you left her, leaning back with her arm over her eyes. You walking back towards her caused her to sit up, winching from the pain. You knelt in front of her, opening the first aid kit.
‘Y/n..’
‘Don’t,’ You snapped, cutting her off. You sighed. ‘We’ll talk after I make sure you’re okay.’ You said more gently. She nodded and allowed you to clean her face. The antiseptic stung and Yelena flinched away but you blew on it. The kind gesture filled her eyes with tears. You used butterfly bandages for the cuts on her forehead and cheek, and cleaned her lip.
‘Put this on your lip.’ You instructed. Once again Yelena did it without any arguing. ‘I’m going to lift your shirt to check your ribs.’ She nodded as you lifted her shirt up, up to the bottom of her sports bra. Her ribs were black and blue. ‘Jesus Yelena.’
‘You should see the other guy.’ She joked but you glared at her. You were mad at her even when Natasha called to explain why Yelena ran. You weren’t mad that you got the bruise, you were mad that she went missing. ‘Sorry.’ She whispered.
‘They aren’t broken but we should wrap and ice them.’ She nodded and let you wrap her ribs, placing the other bag of frozen peas on them. Once they were wrapped, you pulled her shirt back down. You sat on the coffee table in front of her. Yelena finally allowed herself to look at you. You had bags underneath your eyes from the lack of sleep. When she finally spoke with Natasha, she told her that you’ve been worried sick. The bruise on your neck in the shape of her hand was still there but it was healing.
‘Where were you?’ You asked softly. Yelena thought about lying to you but it didn’t seem smart.
‘I called Valentina and asked for a job.’ Your eyes went wide.
‘Are you fucking kidding me?’
‘No. I needed space to think.’ You laughed, shaking your head.
‘So you went to the one person that wouldn’t give you that and instead hired you to kill someone?’ Yelena looked at the floor as you pinched the bridge of your nose. ‘You don’t do that type of work anymore.’ Yelena shrugged.
‘I hurt you. I gave you that bruise on your neck. Maybe it is all I’m good at, hurting people.’ Her accent was deep as she was struggling to keep her emotions in check.
‘And if you let me explain instead of disappearing for 2 days then you would know that I’m fine.’
‘But I still did it.’
‘Yes you did.’ Yelena was shocked. ‘But you were in a nightmare induced state where you had no control over your actions. You were in fight or flight mode. I don’t blame you.’ Yelena didn’t say anything. You went back on your knees and grabbed her hands. You always asked permission to touch her. She was still healing from years of physical abuse and you didn’t want to trigger her. But you needed to prove a point. You placed one of her hands on your throat and curled the other in a fist, placing it on your cheek. She tried to fight you but in her injured state you were stronger. ‘Hit me.’ You said simply.
‘What?’ Yelena questioned, her voice shaking.
‘Punch me. Hurt me.’ You ordered.
‘No.’
‘Come on do it!’
‘No! Stop it!’ She pulled her hands away.
‘Exactly because when you have full control you would never hurt me, sweetheart.’ You cupped her face with your hands. ‘I was so worried about you.’ She closed her eyes, fighting away the tears.
‘Hey, look at me.’ When she opened them a single tear rolled down her cheek, you whipped it away. ‘I love your eyes. Do you know why?’ Yelena shook her head. ‘It’s like watching the night sky or a beautiful sun rise. There’s so much they hold.’ Yelena’s lip shook. ‘I’m not giving up on us. Even if the skies get rough. Even if every night you wake me up from a nightmare.’ You smiled. ‘I’m giving you all of my love.’ The dame broke and tears ran freely down her cheeks. She let out a sob and pulled you into a hug. You were mindful of her ribs as she cried, wetting your shirt with her tears. ‘I’m not someone who walks away so easily. I’m here to stay. Because,’ you pull her out of the hug slightly. ‘You are worth it. We are worth it. I’m here.’
‘No one has ever stayed.’ Yelena whispered, her words shook from her tears. ‘Melina and Alexi gave us back to the Red Room. Natalia left me for the Avengers.’
‘I’ll be here. If you need your space I will give it,’ You paused. ‘Just next time don’t go to Valentine to kill someone.’ You said smiling. Yelena laughed.
‘I didn’t kill anyone, that’s why I look like this.’ You gently placed a kiss on her bruised lip.
‘We are worth it, okay?’
‘Okay.’
‘Dinner is almost ready. Just relax, heal, and I made mac and cheese.’ You kissed her forehead.
‘I don’t deserve you.’ You stood up and looked at her. Your eyes held so much love in them that Yelena almost started crying again. She was getting a headache, from the crying or the repeated punches to the face.
‘Yes you do. You deserve love in all its forms.’ You finished dinner and put on a movie as you both eat. Dinner was finished and the movie was only half way over. You curled up against Yelena, sleep finally coming for you. Yelena placed a gently kiss on your forehead and fell asleep soon after you, no nightmares invaded her mind.
*
You woke up to a hand running through your hair. You slowly opened your eyes, seeing Yelena smiling down at you.
‘Good morning malysh.’ You hummed.
‘Morning.’ Your voice was thick with sleep. Yelena loved it. It reminds her of home. Of safety. Of love.
‘We are worth it.’ She whispered.
‘We are.’

But no one knows who is running the Red Lotus. And who is our man character? Zaheer and P’L’s biological daughter sent to Republic High to kill Korra and Asami. "wanda's dangerous" okay? name one single marvel main character that isn't. and out of all of them she's the hottest.
"But Wanda enslaved a town"
I want all of y'all to go back to the time before we saw No Way Home, aaaaaall the way back to when we got the No Way Home trailer and almost everyone was convinced that Doctor Strange was being impersonated or being controlled because Doctor Strange messing up the multiverse and bringing in villains from all over the place because a teenager, who knows nothing about magic, asked him to cast a life altering spell is so so stupid, dangerous and negligent that it seemed so completely out of character. But MCU Doctor Strange turned out to be just like That™
Wanda did not enslave an entire town on purpose. She lost control of her powers because of loads of unaddressed trauma but at the end she fixes her mistake, owns up to it and starts to really train to master her powers.
Everyone else gets to fuck up and it's forgotten about or forgiven but Wanda's dirty laundry keeps getting aired
He’s ready I swear
