Respect is important. Even if someone is an insufferable asshole, if you disrespect them in a way that is focused on what they are or how they look or something like that instead of focusing the disrespect toward their evil or wrong actions, you end up categorically disrespecting good people.

And here is a step-by-step template, provided by Captain Picard, of how to just put your own pride/embarrassment/guilt aside for a second and back the fuck up when you disrespect a friend. It’s super easy.

I don’t want to keep harping on it - but also I do - and Star Trek was always supposed to be (or at least trying to be) very loudly progressive - and the parallels are super obvious - whether it was intended or not - so I’ll just put the link - you all know my feelings on this
