But you know exactly how much work you put into your art, how many hours and how much care and love went into your pictures and no matter the amount of likes or retweets you get, you KNOW the worth of your work.
There was but only one thought in your mind as you sluggishly made your way to your destination. Your unexpected struggle with the door was tackled with an air of resignation, and your victory brought you no feeling of triumph or relief. Only the sight of the darkened room gave you a minuscule burst of energy, enough for you to stumble and land ungracefully onto the soft, comfortable couch. And with that condition fulfilled, your mind thought nothing at all but the blissful feeling of rest.
You had left your bag somewhere on the floor during your journey from the door to the couch. Usually you would have put it away at least, but right now you didnāt care. Ā Your tired eyes easily slid close as your body curled instinctively, your face buried in one of the fluffy throw cushions. Not unlike a shrimp, came the random subconscious thought. Elsewhere in your mind, a more rational line of thought suggested you should shower and clean up before indulging in some sleep. Alas the pull of blissful oblivion was too strong and those thoughts were quickly ignored and forgotten.
You didnāt know how long you drifted in the realm of in-between, almost in deep sleep but yet still aware of the sounds of the waking world. The soft touch of fingers brushing the hair from your face felt indistinguishable from dream and reality.
But you knew them well.
Gentle touches both caressed and urged you from your almost slumber. Wake up, love, the touches conveyed, just for a little while. You made a small sound of protest, choosing to turn and snuggle deeper into the comfy cushions. The hands smoothed down your hair one last time before retreating. You regretted itās loss but it meant you could return to your rest.
The hands, however, were not gone for long, returning instead to scoop you up into strong arms and pulled you close until you were cuddled against a warm and familiar chest. Only then did you crack your eyes open sleepily, peeking up at the man who now held you.
He was focused on moving the both of you forward but glanced down when he sensed your eyes on him. A tender smile tugged at his lips. Good morning, love. You replied with a sleepy smile, your mind registering vaguely that you were heading towards the bathroom. You pushed against his chest in protest but that only earned you a lifted brow. A huge yawn interrupted any plans to resist further, and a gentle kiss pressed to your hair told you Iāll take care of everything.
A few steps later, he moved to gently set you down on your feet, the coolness of the bathroom floor tiles causing you to involuntarily shiver. A large hand came up to caress your face, a thumb barely brushing your lips spoke trust me. Your lips pursed, placing a soft kiss against the callused skin. I do.
It didnāt mean you were quite awake, but he did not seem to mind that you were leaning most of your weight on him, nothing less than the implosion of the universe would move him when you were vulnerable and relying on him. Slowly, he helped you out of your clothes, folding them simply but neatly and setting them into a pile at the side. Dipping a hand into the bath water which had by now cooled to just the right temperature, he gave a nod of approval. Grasping your hand, he supported you as you climbed into the bath and didnāt let go until you were comfortably situated into the water.
You sank into the water with a sigh, feeling a release of tension and fatigue that had built up over the course of the day. You go to reach for the shampoo but he stopped you, his hands softly insisting that you lean back against the bathtub, and to let him do the rest.
Hands washed your skin and hair reverently with thorough and tender touches. Unlike other times you both have spent time in the bathroom, the contact wasnāt sexual, but instead sought to comfort and pamper. You found your eyes slowly sliding close, lulled by the gentleness of his hands and the calm sounds of the lapping water. You did not know how long youāve drifted off before a warm hand cupping your face prompted you to open your eyes. Time to get out of the water, love.
He helped you out of the bathtub, drying your body with care before wrapping you in a warm fluffy towel and leading you to sit before the sink. Hands rubbed your shoulders apologetically, Iām sorry for the disturbance. You turned your head and nuzzled into his toned forearms, itās okay. The whirring of the hairdryer drowned out everything else. Fingers combed through your hair, gently untangling any tangles and knots they encountered, the process repeated over and over patiently until your hair was left soft and silky. The silence that settled in the bathroom after the hairdryer was switched off was a relief as you stood and stretched your tired body. Ā Your comfy pyjamas was pressed into your hands with a light kiss on your forehead before he pulled away to give you some space to change. The familiar material settled over you like a warm blanket as you pulled on the clothing.
Already, he had prepared the toothbrushes, yours and his. He passed you yours, a line of toothpaste neatly pressed onto the bristles. Hygiene's important, the smile on his face teased. You rolled your eyes and gave him a small bump, leaning against him as you began to brush your teeth. Dropping a kiss on the crown of your head, he followed suit, his free arm coming up to wrap around your waist, further supporting you.
With everything washed, rinsed and dried, his hand slipped into yours, leading you back into the room. Your body practically sagged in relief with your ultimate goal in sight. He pulled back the covers and helped you slip into bed before tucking the soft sheets around you. You couldn't help the soft whine of protest as you saw him step away. He smiled, reaching down to soothe the hair back from your face. I'll be just a moment, love. Pulling back, he set about putting away some stray items, including the bag you've left on the floor when you entered earlier.
Finally switching off the lights, he came back to you, slipping under the covers and wrapping his strong arms around you, pulling you flush against him. Sighing happily, you snuggled ever so closer against his warm body, your nose nuzzling softly into the crook of his neck, breathing in his familiar and unique scent. Rumbling contentedly, he adjusted his position slightly so that you were lying against him as comfortably as possible, pressing a tender kiss to your forehead. Goodnight and sweet dreams, my love.
A/N: I wrote this mainly as a comfort piece when work got tough and draining so it is most definitely self-indulgent fluff through and through! This isnāt a fanfic, more of a original drabble of sorts so the male mentioned here is not modeled on any character is particular, more so up to oneās imagination ^^. you wanna know why i like alternate universes so much? because i like the idea that these two characters can/will love each other no matter what time period, where they are, or what the situation is. its like there is nothing that can stop them from loving one another and i just really like that okay man.
