I notice a lot of new polytheists and aspiring devotees asking what to do to find their deities/feel closer to them/talk to them/etc, so I thought Iād share somewhat in detail what has helped for me when I chose to put my faith in them - aside from prayer and divination
š±šømake plans/rules for yourself and follow them. habit forming is a stepping stone to worship. for me, if I donāt do anything else faith-driven, I at least ring my chime. It doesnāt have to be so obvious, try to work it into your normal routine
š±šøjust about anything can be an offering! buried offerings are my biggest but writing, brushing your teeth, self control, treat yoā self, baths, your blog, video games with character select any video games, photos, playlists - you name it. if it makes you think of them, it honors them
š±šøon the other hand - if you feel they are stubbornly distant, study them more, try new offerings, look elsewhere. do you have pop culture icons that remind you of someone without inherently representing them? has something at the store been catching your eye? dig deep, follow your gut!
š±šøif they do at all, they will not likely present predictably. they have shown themselves to me through physical objects, in birds, in the sunlight between the blinds, in baths, the melodies of my heart, and I suspect endless other variations. but never once did i expect it
š±šø rainfall can be an excellent tool for communication. speak/pray to your deity and listen to the shift in the weather for responsive gestures
š±šø new moons are good for being noticed! light candles to illuminate yourself, talk to them full moons are good for noticing them! turn out/dim the lights and let yourself be overwhelmed
š± šøcanāt bury/burn food? donāt like throwing away offerings? your deity might prefer that you eat it for them! if you have strange cravings or see something new, indulge! even if you donāt like it, you tried it for them and tbh thatās just as special
š±šøif youāre having trouble branching out, ask your current deity what they think of other gods you are interested in. pay attention when you reread their summaries, was there someone who stuck out this time? donāt forget, the lore is not a set in stone representation of their behavior/interactions with others but itās important to still be mindful
š±šø if you are trying to use divination, ask your tools what they think of your deities/reach out to a third party diviner some readings might be more willing (and more helpful!) than others.
š±šø if you canāt lucid dream/astral travel (like me) give daydreaming a try! concentrate on what it would look like if you had a meeting spot with your deity. picture what you would wear (if anything), how large or small they are, setting details, lighting, etc. then lose yourself in that world during mediation, chores, walks, right before bed, whenever you can zone out
š±šø if you still canāt, fake it til you make it. improvise with nature sounds, sit in the dark (if youāre okay with that), watch optical illusion gifs, anything that can get your mind creating. take notes on your theories and keep track of what youāve tried.
š±šø limited supplies? pick from what youāve got save old jewelry for charms, grab your spare crystals, trinkets youāve held onto for years, and you can use divination - or my personal favorite ājust guessā what they might like. interacting with their item could help form those bonds
most importantly- keep them in your thoughts! you donāt have to do any of these things at all to connect with or find your deity. in fact, I have tried all of these countless times and still not reached some in particular. you might find your own method along the way and thatās all the more special.
remember that whomever they are, they love you already and they know youāre trying

In Kemetic Orthodoxy, members will occasionally reach out and ask for others to pray for them. Because of that, I've come up with a set prayer I like to use when I'm praying for others and I'm pretty proud of it.
Netjer, come to your child (name). Grant them all life with you, all joy with you, all health with you, and all prosperity with you in the following of your Ka forever.
I prefer to say it out loud since I tend to think that's more ritually effective. Feel free to borrow my format, and enjoy!
Stele Dedicated to Amun-Re, by the Foreman Baki
This round-topped stele is carved in low relief and painted in several colors. The pictorial plane is divided into two registers, the upper one containing two rams facing each other. The animals, with cobras rising on their foreheads, wear tall headdresses composed of two tall plumes with a solar disk at the center.Ā
Between them is a small offering table with lotus flowers. The mirror image hieroglyphic inscription refers to the rams and reveals their divine nature as that of Amun-Re. In the register below, foreman Baki is shown in the pose of adoration.

i sincerely believe the best offering to maāat is not food set by an icon of the NTRW, but being fiercely, endlessly good to other people; to be kind whenever possible, to defend each otherās livelihoods and dignity, to take good care of ourselves, to respect our planet and the life of plants and animals (not only for its utility to human beings, but for its own sake), and to always be humble enough to realize when weāre wrong and when our ideas and actions need to change.
