a very lovely lady asked how i was able to be visibly alternative and visibly jewish, which is a valid question bc its not every day you see someone in a kippah and spikes. so i explained to her that judaism encourages self expression and creativity, and there was no point in my upbringing where my jewish community tried to push me away from the styles or music that i enjoy. in fact they heavily encouraged me to cultivate my own identity. and it got me thinking about how much i love being part of a religion that allows people to be themselves while still being a part of a broader community. every jew has such diverse hobbies and interests and im so glad we can all celebrate that.
also alternative music, styles, and values go hand in hand with judaism. so many pioneers of these subcultures have been jewish and guided by their culture/religion. im really not doing anything revolutionary at all
