Witness:
He canât help but grit his teeth when his summation appears to have the exact opposite effect as intended. Were detectives just unable to take a hint when it came to things like this? All the investigators he had caught glimpses of in television dramas growing up at least had the tact not to pester potential witnesses for answers at such a dangerous time and place, or at least acknowledged  the trouble it would give them. Maybe it was only young detectives, Kirigiriâs methods had more than a few similarities to the ones of this girlâŠ
As the area around them continues to grow darker, Byakuya moves his arms-and by extension the groceries- closer to his chest. His head turns back to itâs forward position, but he stays in place. âArenât half of those questions things that could be answered with the police report?â he asks disdainfully.
The van had had no license plate to speak of, a detail so common when it came  to crime here that he had assumed it would have automatically been written down without a need for him to mention it, but he was completely certain that he had mentioned the van being black. There wouldnât have been any reason for them to leave off that detail, would there? It wasnât as if he had described itâs exact make and model (Not that he could, of his many fields of study, types of cars was not one of them.) So what reason would they have to omit the color?
Being so focused on that train of thought, it took him a moment to notice that his contemplation had started to show outwardly. His hand had found itself close to his lips, and though Yui likely couldnât see it with his back facing her, his expression had changed to one of stern concentration.
Of course, when he did notice he was quick to get out of such a position as soon as he possibly could, arms once again at his sides and starting to speak again to distract her from the previous movements.
âAnd why are you expecting me to know how she was feeling? You think I would be able to tell her emotions from a glimpse of her face in the dark?â
Comparing her to an ACTOR was a poor choice of thought. Actors did what a script written by another told them, detectives did their jobs and whatever would be required of them due to it. May it be questioning their ONLY lead, who happened to be a VENDING MACHINE of information, or seeking out clues on their own. Yui just preferred to get as much information as she could from whatever was given to her, not to immediately fall into ASSUMPTIONS due to the lack of information presented. Actors already had everything presented to them, simply playing a role of detective. If that were the case for Yui, she wouldnât have bothered approaching him AT ALL.
Even with his back to her, she sensed his sudden INTRIGUE with the way his hand raised to his lips, silence blanketing them for a few, brief moments. Cut short by his INDIGNANT tone, as if he was trying to still shake her loose from his trail. But, this time he hadnât asked her to LEAVE. He asked her to EXPLAIN.
â Emotion isnât only displayed by someoneâs facial expression. Did she tense up when she saw you? Did she make a noise? Did her breath hitch? â
Question after question, STRINGS of information dangling in front of her, just waiting for her to reach out and grab them. If only heâd continue to help it along, as much as he APPEAREDÂ to hate it. She saw she could see a spark of interest in his eyes, however, as she QUICKENED her pace that slightest bit to be on his side.
With all the information he was reconfirming to her, she could only guess that he was the one who actually FILED the report. That was one of the reasons she continued questioning him-- To find out if he knew anything MORE, and if he knew the BASICSÂ too. Trivial, but finding who filed the report should have been one of the first things she did. Luck appeared to be on her side this time, presenting him to her without the STRUGGLEÂ of searching the smokey streets surrounding them.
