🌎 Happy #thankfulthursday 🌍 . If you could snap your fingers and be a master at something, what would you choose? . Today I am thankful for being an artist & receiving this book. It is the speech from Neil Gaiman’s 2012 commencement address to Philadelphia University of the Arts. Within these pages are some solid gems on how to live your life if you are in the creative realm. No matter what creativity category you fall into, this applies. One of the greatest take-aways is to “Enjoy it.” And by “it”, he means the process, the journey of creating. Endless hours and day within my lifetime I have worried about current and future works. I would worry about making it “perfect” and being nervous about fucking up future projects, or not being capable of more advanced paintings if I couldn’t pull off my current one I was working on. Let me tell you, there is NO point in worrying about “perfection” as a creator. The only way to grow is to make mistakes, so why not enjoy making them. We all are creative by nature, and with the current state of the world, this is the time to explore YOURSELF. Explore things you’ve always wanted to try and haven’t had time to. And when you try something out, and you make mistakes, don’t stop because that is a sign of you learning. A sign of growth. If change were easy, everyone would do it. So as Neil said, go out there, make mistakes. Glorious, fabulous, wondrous mistakes, and enjoy the journey. . . . . 💙What fears have you overcome, and how?💙 . Daily Sketch # 1. This is like a drawing diary I am starting.. So for today, I really feel strongly that I have missed the train on so many opportunities in life. These opportunities are missed by sheer lack of experience and confidence. When one gains experience in different skills, they are more well rounded, confident, and ready for anything. I’ve reflected a lot on what I have learned so far in life, and looking back, I didn’t do a lot because of fear. The unknown can be scary, especially if you weren’t taught otherwise as a child. Ironically, all new experience gained, lives within the unknown. Today, I drew this to help me better digest the idea that gaining experience and confidence doesn’t have to perceived from a fearful standpoint. If you could have a painting of any animal, which animal would you choose? 💙🐱 . This painting is the first of my Endangered Species Collection. Also my first time painting a cheetah or spots on an animal. It was incredible fun playing with the contrasting colors and brush stroked for fur texture. As always, it's an honor to paint this beautiful animal while it is still with us on this planet. Sadly there are less than 50 left in the wild. 🌎 Happy # thankfulthursday World! 🌍 . . Here an awesome Gratitude quote from Melody Beattie: . “Gratitude unlocks the fullness of life. It turns what we have into enough, and more. It turns denial into acceptance, chaos to order, confusion to clarity. It can turn a meal into a feast, a house into a home, a stranger into a friend.” . I was not always a glass-half-full type. Until this past year, I didn’t really know how to tap into positivity on a regular basis, and was struggling with holding onto a positive mindset for over a decade. But last year, I came across the power of gratitude. Gratitude = a huge fucking game changer on a day-to-day basis, especially if you struggle with anxiety. It’s one of those sad realities, where not all humans are taught how to utilize gratitude. They might go their whole life living through a lens of resentment & indignation. I am posting every single Thursday in hopes to spread the power of gratitude. Just thinking of one thing you are grateful for today is better than not thinking gratefully at all. Experiment with your own brain, use positive thoughts to your advantage, and just remember that ALL negative thoughts just suck up time and energy, FUCK THAT. Don’t got time for it. . Here is what I am thankful for today! I have been collecting studio equipment and reference materials for as long as I can remember. I would pick up any animal remains I found as a kid, and would bring them wherever I moved to. When I became a bartender, I quickly realized that the drinks I got to make were more art than libation. The unique vessels I got to choose from, the perfectly ergonomic precision tools, and the liquor bottles themselves are incredibly designed. I am grateful that I have collected so many wonderful shapes, textures, and structures over the years and can use them to practice my oil painting and sketching. 🌎 Dear World 🌍, Quarantine is a confusing situation, of which I am uniquely familiar. I have been in a pseudo quarantine since 2018. With this ample alone time, I have evolved & my business has evolved with me. When one is alone, one realizes what truly matters. For me, I gravitated towards learning more about the world we live in, how to overcome most physiological & psychological obstacles, and how to confidently take on any creative endeavor. I learned that every person on this planet has a personal legend, and mine has grown from a simple life-long path towards artistic mastery, to using my artistic abilities I learn along my path, to help with the conservation of our planet and the people on it. This journey is based on making sure future generations have a greater foundational knowledge about themselves, and a balanced and healthy world to grow in and explore. ♡ ♡ In the name of Earth Day, my business launch, and my first post in a millennia, here is an Asiatic Cheetah. T͙O͙N͙I͙G͙H͙T͙ I͙S͙ A͙ B͙I͙G͙ D͙E͙A͙L͙ . .*ᴸᴼᴺᴳ-ᴵˢᴴ ᴾᴼˢᵀ ᴴᴱᴬᴰˢ ᵁᴾ* . These botanicals are so much more than just inkings. They are a collection of work representing how really hard problem solving and relentlessness pays off. Not only was the technique and concepts foreign to me when I started, but I, Kyra, was foreign to myself. These botanicals are a milestone, marking the first artistic feet that truly helped me dig deep within myself and face things I let control me from deep deep down in the darker places of the soul. We all have this place, it exists within all of us, and it’s up to us to clear it out and make room for more love, acceptance, and true self empowerment. I was forced to face it due to eliminating nearly all distractions from my life for the first time. My advice from this experience is to stop distracting yourself and dig deep to find who you really want to be, because we only have so much time on this small spinning rock💙🌎✨ . . These botanicals are also a different milestone. Less than 2 years ago I was sitting in my room in NJ and scrolling through all the social media of all the bartenders out in San Diego, hoping one of them would welcome we with open arms. Working with all the absolutely phenomenal, supportive, inspirational, beautiful souls from @georgesatthecove has shown me that any dream is possible. I’ve gone from scrolling on my phone hoping for acceptance, to being the illustrator to the new @georgeslevel2 cocktail book. . . 🌎ＨＥＬＬＯ ＷＯＲＬＤ🌍 I know I have been super stealthy these past few months working intensely on some major concepts/dreams/ideas I am trying to make a reality and bring into this world. My first dream is to be able to draw a human skull from any angle in any medium. To kick my butt into high gear, I have devised a 90 day challenge with my brother. I must draw a skull a day while he is forced to workout everyday. If one or the other fails at this, they owe the other $100. We are on day 12 and I will be posting daily from here on out.
