Alright, y'all. Bug nerd here. Yes, this is real. This is Charidotella sexpunctata. It’s able change color like this by filling and emptying its elytra (the wing covers) with water. The mirror-like gold effect is caused by it forcing water into separate layers of its elytra, smoothing them out to the point where they actually reflect light. By drawing the water out, the red pigment beneath is exposed. They do this whenever they’re disturbed as a defense mechanism, likely to mimic foul tasting lady beetles.

I’m at the best scene in the entire campaign: the deal in Fantasy Costco. You know, THE deal. If Arms Outstretched is the most defining scene story-wise, the Fantasy Costco bit in LIIV would the most memorable comedic bit.

Merle says he’s still saving up for the Flaming Raging Poisoning Sword of Doom, setting up the entire scene. There is a moment where Griffin off-handedly mentions the Slicer of T'pire Weir Isles (pronounced like tupperware), which can be exchanged for someone’s most valuable item with a high enough persuasion roll.

Magnus takes a while deciding what he wants, giving everyone enough time to forget about both the Sword and the Slicer. Griffin brings out Garfield to get some more of Magnus’s… bodily materials, quietly setting up for the end of The Suffering Game, where he’d presumably die. Meanwhile, Justin has been silent this whole time, buying his time.

Then it’s Taako Time.

He keeps his poker voice while buying both the Slicer and – and Griffin himself brings up, which adds to the comedy of the scene as he fails to notice the trap he’s about to waltz into – Rickle Axage’s Pocket Guide to Adventuring, Third Edition, which gives the whoever reads it a temporary advantage on rolls of a single skill.

I can hear Justin keeping his voice deliberately monotone as he says Taako reads the guide for persuasion.

And then.

Taako: “I have one more transaction I need to conduct.

Garfield: “Okay.”

Taako: “Garfield.”

Garfield: “Yes?”

Taako: “I have something that I think is really gonna interest you.”

*beat*

Griffin McElroy, his very soul trembling with realization: “OH MY GOD.”

This scene cemented Taako as my favourite character in the campaign and TAZ as one of my favourite pieces of fictional media of all time. Nothing tops it. Justin is a genius.

Have you seen the "Starting Dec 17, adult content will not be allowed..." ToS update? Do you think the "nudity in art, such as sculptures and illustrations" part possibly covers also erotic fanart/drawings, or just, idk, classical illustrations of naked deities and the like? Should artists back up their nsfw works and move them somewhere else asap, if they haven't done that already?

in my opinion, going off past experience with this kind of thing:

in theory, this will be like DevArt’s policies about n sfw adult content I imagine: ‘tasteful nudes’ that be counted as ‘artistic’ are okay, but Doing the Do will not be okay. educational content about sexy stuff will be okay, but visual aids will not be okay.

in practice:

 images of naked (cis white) women will be okay, but everything else will get a banhammer. 

same sex romantic content will be far more likely to be removed than anything interpreted to be opposite sex romantic content. 

images of transgender bodies will be far more likely to be removed than images of cisgender bodies.

educational content about sex will get removed just as often as any other content about sex no matter what the context

content of any rating about LGBTQIAPN+/queer relationships will be treated as sexually explicit. content about straight relationships will not.

content of any rating about transgender/nonbinary/genderqueerness physiological changes/feelings and/or experiences will be treated as sexually explicit.

informational content about uterus/vagina/ovary reproductive systems will be treated as sexually explicit, as will anything about sexual development & awareness during puberty - particularly if related to non-straight/non-cismale feelings

people between the ages of 13 and 17 will not be allowed to talk about their own experiences irt sexual feelings, etc because all content that acknowledges minors can experiences sexual desire or interests will be treated as cp. (reminder that just b/c minors can experience these feelings doesn’t mean they can consent to sex, especially with an adult.)

100% black & white treatment of potentially sexual content ensues. any attempt to elucidate the differences between adult n sfw content vs cp vs fictional depictions of csa vs l0li vs darkfic mentions of sexual abuse vs noncon vs rape fantasy vs …. you get the point … will be removed.

tl;dr: when a platform as big as tumblr says ‘no n sfw’, it inevitably enforces existing sociopolitical boundaries on what’s okay and not okay - which means the LGBT+/queer community, women (trans, cis, or otherwise), and young people suffer the most.

Should artists back up their nsfw works and move them somewhere else asap, if they haven’t done that already?

also, reminder: Oath, the subsidiary of Verizon that owns tumblr, is an advertising company. their job is marketing. and it’s a lot harder to sell your advertising space to ‘respectable’ companies when the site’s got porn on it.

Hey guys! It’s the Steam Game awards, and I saw this category

and immediately thought of the amount of detail and storytelling in every

single

background

in the entirety of hiveswap. I mean, these were a few I had grabbed before for something else, I didn’t go look specifically for good examples (though literally every screen would count.

Homestuck has always been great at using the environment and what’s around a person’s room/house/etc to tell about them, and Hiveswap took it to the next level, not only making lush and detailed environments that are gorgeous and very evocative of the time period that things take place in (at least in the human end), but also making almost every single part of it interactable with everything, giving you tons of unique dialogue that further fleshes out those characters if you delve.

I know it may be too small to stand a chance, but it sure as fuck deserves a win much more than any game I can think of… especially as most are vast, empty expanses of repeated elements, an afterthought that exists because the characters that need a place to stand, not full of character all their own. So, um, if you see this, please signal boost and vote for Hiveswap, because it’s definitely deserving.
