Today marks the first day of Mental Health Month. Just like last year, we wanted to take up a bit of your dashboard real estate to talk about something important: you.

“Mental health” covers a broad spectrum of complex illnesses and emotions. It’s not always a cut-and-dry diagnosis, or something that goes away when you practice self-care. It can be difficult. It can feel like an uphill battle, especially after the year we’ve had. One of the ways we can move forward is by talking about it. We want to help facilitate that.

We want you to know that there are resources out there. There are people to talk to if you need someone to talk to, and there are organizations to look into if you want to help others.

NAMI (@namiorg and @oktotalk), the National Alliance on Mental Illness, is the largest grassroots mental health organization in the U.S. Residents can dial 800-950-NAMI Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. — 6 p.m. ET.

The It Gets Better Project (@itgetsbetterproject) has one mission: uplift, empower and connect LGBTQ+ youth all around the globe. They have a list of over 1,000 resources for LGBTQ+ youth who are struggling with their sexuality, their families, their friends, or anything else. They want to remind you that you do not have go through anything alone.

The Born This Way Foundation (@bornthiswayfoundation) is committed to supporting the wellness of young people and empowering them to create a kinder and braver world. Their goal is to encourage kinder communities, improve mental health resources, and more positive environments both online and off.

Today we want to help you set up your own support system right on your own Tumblr. Some place where you can be honest and open and true. If you feel comfortable with it, we have two questions for you: what are you doing today to make life easier for yourself? And if you feel up to it—if you feet like you are in a good enough place yourself—what can you do to make life a little bit better for someone else?

Cybercrime is expanding beyond computers and cellphones. Cars, washers and dryers, and even toasters are going online — an evolution of technology called the Internet of things.

Samy Kamkar, a felon who knows how to hack these things, may be the best person to help us understand all the possibilities for crime as we move toward a fully connected world.

I met up with him at the parking lot of NPR West in Culver City, Calif. We planned to steal a car. Kamkar arrived with a couple of gadgets that looked like hand-sized circuit boards with wires dangling from them.

We picked a Chevy Bolt with keyless entry. Kamkar stood 20 feet away with one of the gadgets, and I stood next to the car with the other one. The Bolt unlocked. I got in, started the car and then I was off — ready for a trip to the beach.

For the record, the Bolt belongs to an NPR colleague, who wasn’t happy to see how easy it was to hack her car.

Kamkar says his gadget can imitate signals being sent from the owner’s key fob to the car. Parking lots are a treasure trove for thieves, he says. “There are a lot of cars coming in and out, so it’s essentially dealer’s choice,” he says.

This isn’t my type of post but Net Neutrality is so important.

Forget your page’s aesthetic, share this with everyone you know. Without Net Neutrality, the internet itself would change.

Companies would be able to charge websites if they want them to load faster than others on your computer. This means that they would purposefully bottleneck speeds on every website that doesn’t have the funding to pay for it faster speed. There’s NO reason for this. Are you a small business with a website and can’t afford to pay enough to get faster speeds? Too bad. Are you someone with a personal blog? Slow page loading. Do you want to view a website written by a nonprofit organization for your school project? You’ll have to wait until the page loads because, since they’re nonprofit, they can’t afford to pay enough to cable companies so that their page loads faster.

An alternative to this would be having to pay for faster internet. Internet service should be priced by usage, not speed. For home internet, unlimited use isn’t all that expensive so it’s really common. You wouldn’t want to pay extra for more speed.

This would possibly affect the way that the internet works on other devices such as your phone, gaming system, laptop, tablet, etc.

We NEED Net Neutrality.

If a company doesn’t agree with a specific website, they could purposefully limit traffic to their site. This would be censorship, something that nobody likes.

There are many other reason as to why you should protect Net Neutrality.

This is an issue whether you’re a Republican, Democrat, Left-wing, Right-wing, young, old, male, female, rich, poor, etc.

EVERYONE SHOULD ADVOCATE FOR NET NEUTRALITY.

Guys, also think about he wider costs. Every business, school, hospital, pharmacy, first responder, government service—every single one uses the Internet. So, yes, the individual user will pay more for access, but so will the institutional users. The thing is, the institutional users aren’t just going to eat the increase in costs. They will pass them on to the consumer. They always do.

Education, healthcare, every single product and service, plus your local, state, and Federal taxes, will all GO UP.

Losing net neutrality will affect the cost of every single product and service offered in this country. Every. Single. One.
