I’ve been watching the new Scrubs season while waiting for Sunny, and it’s been such a treat. J.D., Turk, and Elliot slip back into their characters so easily, it’s like they never left.

The interns on the other hand… don’t get me wrong, I like them all individually, but the show tries so hard to force romantic interactions from all the hetero permutations, I’m just not feeling any of them.

Asher x Amara? I’m glad that one’s fizzled out.

Amara x Blake? That went absolutely nowhere.

Sam x Blake? It’s got the most potential, I guess, but still a bit bland.

Asher x Sam? J.D. remarked on their “sexual tension” this episode, and I was like, “Really?” That one’s probably the most forced one of all. They’ve only just had one proper interaction, just the two of them, and they’re already trying to stick the “true love” label on them. So dumb… 😑

Ironically, the only dynamic that gave off even the tiniest spark to me was Sam and Dashana from ep 2. Which is why I’m so irritated that they haven’t interacted at all since then.

Blasher has the potential to be the Big Ship of the show, and I’d ship it too if they had more screentime together, but Bill Lawrence is depriving us of that too. I thought there was going to be something from that seemingly aborted Asher x Amara x Blake triangle, but nothing. Weird since they made a whole hoopla about Asher being Blake’s first phone contact and all.

Other than the weird decisions they’re making with these dynamics, I’m loving this reboot!

his face kills me here. he's trying not to cry because he does know he's gay. in this moment - underneath all the bigotry and hate - is this desperate sad kid about to cry, begging for help. he's looking at two people that he was just hateful to and begging for help because that's what he's always doing.

that's what fuels everything. that's what was the driving force behind the bigotry is him begging someone please tell me it's not true someone please convince me this isn't true. look at the heartbreak on his face at being called out for being gay.

because that's the hardest part of it, he knows. he always knew he was gay. that's where the anguish comes from. his arc is not him actually figuring out if he's gay, it's him trying desperately to be able to break free from feeling like he has to pretend to be straight, about desperately trying to believe that it's okay for him to be himself. that he's allowed to exist and be loved anyways despite being gay, something that he is so so ashamed of because he was conditioned to believe he isn't lovable and this is why.

underneath all that reality warping and denial he knew the whole time. all the bigoted tirades were him begging for someone to convince him that he can exist and be loved anyways.

and the tragedy is that he was too busy refusing to listen to the storm inside him that he couldn't hear the love that was already there around him. that he spent his whole life desperate for what he already had but was refusing to accept.
