A collage of the main points of Stylenanda
Primary Research
I went around the city centre to find some examples of shop fronts - these are the ones i liked the most.
Moodboard: Target Audience
I made a moodboard of my target audience to help me create a profile.

Mixxmix
We should be the artists.
Mixxmix was founded in 2009 by Minseok Bang who was interested in creative writings, paintings, pictures, music and videos. He brought up his passion in a 13㎡-sized office, and now his company grew up as a powerful online store where 2.5 million customers visit every month.
Mixxmix, the company name implies the mix of past, present, future as well as art, passion and music.
Mixxmix covers vintage items which were famous in the past and trendy fashion items, and it introduces future-oriented designers’ dreaming of being a fashion brand cooperating with cool musicians and artists in an inspiring dreamy space full of creative art works.

Moodboard: Shop fronts
I needed some inspiration so I made a mood board of shop fronts I like and that are similar to the Stylenanda flagship.
Moodboard: Stylenanda
I made this mood board to give myself a little overview of Stylenanda and their concept at the moment.
Research: Bestsellers
In order to find out which product or product line I want to promote in my display I decided to look for Stylenanda’s bestsellers as it also tells me a bit about my target audience and what they like.
Unfortunately Stylenanda does not tell which products sell the best and do not show it on their website either, which led me to the idea of promoting new products. One of each of their sections for research. I will take a closer look at which one I will promote after looking at my/their target audience.
3 Concept Eyes (3CE) - Matte lipstick
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3NH4XT2vnko
Stylenanda published this video a month ago which suggests that this product is very new. It is the latest addition to the 3 Concept eyes matte lipsticks.
Nanda Made - Fake sleeve Twofer dress
Stylenanda is currently offering pre-order for the fake sleeve Twofer dress. It gets shipped out on the 24th October so an option would be to promote a piece like this to get more people to pre-order it.
ACC - Ribbon Accent Houndstooth Pattern Beret
This ribbon accent houndstooth pattern beret is in the New In section of their website but is also a part of their 8% off sale.
These items all represent what is sold on each floor of the Stylenanda department stores - Fashion, Cosmetics and Accessories. I will focus on one of the sections and then go from there or maybe combine these things to promote but this will be decided in the ideation stage.
Research: Stylenanda Flagship ‘Pink Hotel’
To get a better idea of Stylenanda and their concepts I decided to break down their most popular flagship store, the Stylenanda Pink Hotel.
The Stylenanda Pink Hotel is located in Myeongdong - one of Seoul’s most popular shopping districts, also for tourists. The flagship store looks like a hotel, as the name suggests. It consists of 6 floors each following a different concept.
1st Floor - Lobby: Shows only 3CE (3 Concept Eyes) products with the shop floor layed out like an actual hotel lobby. They’ve got a wall of keys with the reception and the cashier as the concierge with a till. The eyecatcher here is the floating bed.
2nd Floor - Spa: This floor displays makeup by 3CE and milk creams, cushions, sleeping masks and more. The eye-catcher on this floor is the bathtub filled with various flowers in different colours and the neon writing on the wall which says ‘Hello, gorgeous’. A perfect selfie spot.
3rd Floor - Rooms: The third floor is designed as a hotel passage and with the rooms being used as fitting rooms. This floor displays Nanda made clothes only and portrays the Nanda concept as well.
4th Floor - Laundry Room: The laundry floor is for apparel and accessories like scarves, gloves, hats and jewellery. This floor features real washing machines and dryers with clothes in them.
5th Floor - Pink Pool: This floor displays clothes but leads to the Pink Pool Cafe - a pool themed cafe with creative drinks like Coffee with a cotton candy cloud floating over it. This floor also leads to the rooftop.
6th Floor - Rooftop terrace: The last floor is a social hotspot for people who shopped at Stylenanda or anyone who wants to relax in the visually pleasing environment. The rooftop comes with large bean bags disguised as cushions.
General Brand Research
Name: Stylenanda Owner: Kim So Hee Founded: 2004 Type: Retail shop Headquarters: Seoul, South Korea
Stylenanda is a South Korean based brand which offers clothes, makeup and accessories. They started out in Seoul but have several branches all across Asia including flagships, department stores and duty free stores.
Retail Experience Brief
For the retail experience brief I chose to work for Stylenanda as I wanted to work for a brand that isn’t well known in the West but is well established.
My fav Retail brands/products
This post will be about my top 5 Retail brands/products with a little analysis of their Visual Identity
TONYMOLY (Skincare brand)
Tonymoly is a Korean skincare brand which I love because of its availability in the UK, the way it works for my skin and of course the cute packaging. It is very popular among Koreans and non-Koreans familiar with Korean skincare brands.
Tonymoly present themselves as fun & functional, which is evident on their website as it is with their packaging. The website’s layout is simple. It’s easy to navigate and includes playful elements. The products they sell are either Food or Animal themed which means their packaging varies from a handcream tube looking like a Banana to a pore minimiser looking like an Egg. This is a fun way of standing out from other Skincare brands. Tonymoly products aren’t the ones you would put away in the bathroom cupboard to hide when friends are around. You’d rather put it on the shelf because the products look like decration! As for advertising campaigns they used to use Kpop idols to promote their products to their target audience by doing shoots with their products. This is a good way as kpop fans are known to sell out whatever their favourite idol is wearing/using.

LUSH (Cosmetics brand)
I love Lush because their products are 100% Vegetarian, they fight animal testing, are cruelty free and make handmade, fresh cosmetics.
Lush is a shop most people know because there is no way one can walk past without smelling it. The first thing I think of when I hear someone mentioning Lush is the smell of the fresh skincare as it fills the shop and the outside of it as well! Lush’s packaging is made of recycled paper/cardboard. It comes in different forms like small bags, colourful scarfs or giftwrappers from recycled paper. It’s like getting a gift from a friend. On their website they highlight their products and use a combination of products, reviws and articles about animal welfare as they don’t want to miss out the opportunity of spreading the word about it. The website is a lot to take in at first but the clear structure makes it easy to understand. Lush gives me a really personal vibe which starts off with the packaging, the way their products are made and of course the Handrendered marker typeface they use.

MISSGUIDED (Womenswear brand)
The reason I love Missguided is for its trendy and fashionable clothes and the fair price they offer them at. The quality also plays a huge role.
Missgudied emphasise new ranges on their website with bold text and flashy picturesof them. They use pop culture to attract their target audience by inlcuding memes, slang and abbreviations (idk, tbh) , visually pleasing ‘aesthetic’ pictures and informal speech. For their ad campaigns they use Instagram models or people with a large following on Instagram. These people get involved in so called affiliate programmes which means the more people they get to use their link or code to buy from Missguided, the more free clothes the Promoter gets. This us a clever way as Instagram famous people can easily have a following from 2000 to more than 2 Million.

Wonderland. (Independent Magazine)
Wonderland is an independent magazine with a combination of fashion, music, film and art talented people. It is around 7 pounds for one issue but it is worth the price as it is a very thick, informative and inspiring piece of material.
Wonderland has really inspiring editorials of the most wanted photographers and creative directors which is one of the best ways for me to keep my creative bank full. Their fashion shoot campaigns are playful but high-end. The art direction is very out the box in my terms, which opens my mind. Their website is really straigghtforward and centered which also includes some motion. It is a mix of still shots from their magazines articles and a minimum of videos.
Contextual Studies 3: Storytelling
This lecture was very interactive and interesting, especially the part about Annie Atkins. Seeing her work with Letterpress, stamps etc. is amazing. Her work is so authentic that it really makes me want to improve my work! Her phrase ‘If it was done by hand, I will do it by hand. If they used a machine, I can use a machine’ is something I will always keep in my mind for future projects. I did not know that Graphic Designers produce the work in films aswell up until this lecture which is good to know and I will definitely look more into it and how I can improve my work. Annie Atkins is like a role model in research for me now.
Contextual Studies 2: The use of fashion editorials & advertising campaigns
After the lecture I did some reasearch about the Artist inspired fashion editorials like the ones shown in the presentation. I came across this Roy Liechtenstein inspired Vogue Beauty editorial. It is very evident that this is Liechtenstein sinpired due to the obvious ‘pop’ in it, the halftone dots, the use of colour, shape and patterns. The hair is very 60′s which fits with the theme as that was the time pop art came in as a new art movement. A lot of brands and photographers use artists as a reference and inspiration. In this issue it serves more as a tribute to Lichtenstein.
Contextual Studies 1: Autobiography & Biography
autobiography
/ˌɑː.t̬ə.baɪˈɑː.ɡrə.fi/
noun
[ C ] a book about a person's life, written by that person (Cambridge dictionary)
What I found interesting in this lecture was the part about Instagram models and culture if it can be called that. Millions of people use Instagram to post photos and videos of their lives onto their feed, using things like themes to create their ‘’’’unique’’’’’ style. ‘Instagram famous’ people are users who have a large following and to some extent have an influence on their followers e.g. when the person posts a photo with a coffee bean exfoliating scrub that has been sponsored, the followers might want to use it too. It’s not a secret that people on social media alter their appearance and fake a lifestyle to appeal to a wider audience and become popular. These sponsored ads alone can make up a lie. Often it’s hard to see the difference between what is real and what is made to look real. The Instagram users (like myself) only show the world what they want them to see. They only show us what they want to make us believe they are leading a life that they, in fact, are not. It seems everyone can have their own visual autobiography, using Instagram - whether it’s all a lie or actually true.
biography
