Your laughter faded into a small chuckle as you took a deep breath. Purple fairy lights were hanging on your ceiling, illuminating the room with your yellow reading lamp. The ambiance it provided gave the room a colorful, yet relaxing and romantic mood. Your legs were laid across Morro’s lap, his hand on the inside of your knee. You don’t know why, but you let him touch you like this. The gesture was a little over friendly, but you didn’t care at this point. Besides, you both knew that you’re more than just friends. You’re in this space in your relationship where there’s more chemistry between the two of you than usual fiends would have, yet neither of you discussed anything further yet. - At least on your part.
Morro’s rough, yet pleasantly low voice broke the pleasant silence. “You have no idea how cute you are when you’re having a good time, Y/N.” There it was again. His compliments weren’t rare, but not too often. He knew what to say, and the perfect time when to say it. It wasn’t flattery either. Compliments are sincere and have truth to them, and Morro meant every word of it. Yet you couldn’t bring yourself to accept it. Instead, you averted your gaze without a response. Morro wasn’t having any of that, though. Whats the point of telling you how beautiful you are if you didn’t see it yourself? You didn’t even want to see it.
Morro trapped your chin between his thumb and index finger. The grip was gentle, yet firm; he was making you look at him for a reason. Morro was about to say something, but you beat him to it. “Why do you say those things? Whats the point of making me feel good?” The expression on your face almost broke his heart. You weren’t crying, angry, or calm. Your eyes were desperate. You actually didn’t understand or even support the idea of someone caring about you. What happened to you? “Why shouldn’t I? You know that I like you, a lot.” ‘Love’ might be a little too strong so early, especially for you. His goal was to make you open up to him, not push him away as if he were a delusional love sick weirdo. Yet he wouldn’t be surprised if he did one day realize that he might actually be in love.
“I don’t believe it.” You pushed your weight off of his chest. “he propped himself up on his elbows. “But I do. Wether you believe it or not.” “What do you get out of this? Out of chasing me like this?” “You.” Your head turned to him, expression unreadable. Morro continued. “Why can’t you accept the fact that I want you?” “It’s not accepting it. I do accept it.” You were about to get off of his lap, yet Morro tightened his grip on your leg. Not forcing you to stay, but not wanting to let go, either. If he did have to let go, he’d fight not to. “I have nothing you could want. No benefits, no rewards. Just me. I don’t understand what else you see.” “You are everything that I want. Just let me show you.”
That’s the point. Morro went through so much already. Wasn’t his goal supposed to be something much greater than chasing an attractive girl? Morro hugged your waist with his arm other and pulled you back down against his chest. Right where you belong. This time, you didn’t try to get back up. You knew you wanted to be with him. That’s why it was so difficult to resist him, and so heartbreaking to reject him. The only one who was keeping him from making you happy, was you. You were protecting yourself from something that never wanted to hurt you, ever. - The opposite actually. So why were you still doubting him?
“I’m scared.” Your voice was barely above a whisper. Morro’s eyes widened. “Why?” There was no reason to be scared, not from him at least. And if anything was terrible enough to scare you, he’d fight it off, even if it killed him. Yet again, Morro had done horrible things in the past. If you were scared of him, it destroyed him, but he’d understand. “Of me?” He asked again. “No. But what if…” You didn’t finish your question. There were many extensions for you to use. What if he found somebody else? What if you loved him and he’d leave you? What if something happened to him and you’d be all alone in the world? What if you weren’t good enough anymore?
“Y/N, that will never happen. I know it’s hard for you to believe. Especially since I can’t guarantee that no sorrow in this world won’t touch you. But I can promise you I will be with you every step of the way. I won’t commit to you if I’m not sure. But I am.” Morro flipped you, so you were laying on your back and he was on top. His arms on either side of your head, protecting you like strong castle walls would. “And, Y/N,” He brought his face closer, only inches away from you. “There is nothing in this world that can make me stop wanting you. Not even you. If you want me to leave you alone, I will. But until then, I will not stop fighting for you.”
