A young woman stands beside her father's hospital bed
They both know he doesn't have much time left
And there's so much both need to say
Neither speak they have bad history
So why she showed up today to him was a mystery
He spent the last few years of his life drowning in misery
He shrouded himself with black clouds and bad energy
He hit his all time low, depression's epitome
He thought he was doing the right thing
Let's take a trip and see
This man got into an argument with the woman who at the time was his wife
Afterwards tear blind she had tried her best to drive
It was 9:49 when he got the call that she died
Leaving behind a daughter who just developed her mind
Seeing the world for the first time through newly developed eyes
I don't know for sure lets say around the age 4 or 5
Old enough to know why her usually strong daddy was crying
Slowly but surely he developed a newfound fear for life
He looked down on his daughter with this newfound fear in his eyes
He made a vow to protect her no weapon formed would prosper against her
He put this down on his life visited her grave and for the last time laid down with his wife
With wiped eyes Rose from the ground with his might
He could never let his baby girl out of his sight

As She grows older she feels stifled in her home
Overprotective father who seems to never leave her alone
Demanding her every move and where she intends to go
His intentions were good but he went about it all wrong
She hoards secrets like a packrat
Things her father should never know
Like how her boyfriend would come over whenever her father wasn't home
Or how he'd bring a dime of loud over she'd roll and they'd blow
He'd touch her spots and she would just follow the flow
She was a rebel and hated her father
Everyday she'd go farther
The house was filled with "I Hate Yous"
"Please don't take my sunshine away"
Career drivin with missed calls from a father who still isn't forgivin
Divorced mother with children
She gives her kids freedom
Something she wasn't givin
She was prepared to lose her second parent a decision she was ok to live with
She made sure to treat her kids the opposite from how she was livin
The way she described growing up you would think everyday she was beatin
One night, Thursday I believe the kitchen alarm started beepin
Her eldest son being the man of the house at 14 saw his chance he couldn't believe it
He hopped out of bed grabbed a bat
He was gonna protect his family he could feel it
His mother woke up next her gut wrenched in a horrible feeling
She heard a yelp from the kitchen
Ran in on the floor was her son was holding his side bleeding
She called an Ambulance losing hope she felt defeated
But the fear in her eyes made her blind and she couldn't see it
Her fathers actions started making more sense
She became more protective over her kids but was careful not to go overboard with it
She found out her father was in the hospital
She drove out bringing her kids with
They were excited finally getting a chance to see the Grandfather they never met
They found his room and walked in
She broke down after so many years of not seeing him
He broke down knowing he could never break down how much this visit means to him
He sees his grandchildren
I swear there's this gleam in him
He doesn't know why the clouds decided to break
But he doesn't care as long as his sunshine never again leaves him
