One of the things I found so interesting walking away from Supergirl 2026 is how the movie portrays Kara’s use of her powers. With Clark they always feel innate, part of him, like they are him. He is Superman because of his powers. Kara meanwhile treats them as this rad tool she now suddenly gets to use to make her invincible. And she can turn them on and off just by going to a different solar system! You can feel her struggle with home and identity in each and every aspect of her usage and that makes the fact that they are powers so visceral. Again, we’re all used to Kryptonite and red suns as comic fans but I feel like this movie helps showcase the powers as mere tools because they are. It’s the person who makes the powers. Yes she’s Supergirl but she’s actually Kara Zor-El of Krypton and Argo and when she’s around a yellow sun she has powers she can use to do some good.

Something key to the idea of Supergirl is that she was made for little girls to see as a role model. Yes, there are other factors to her original creation (money), but she was meant to be someone for girls to look up to (so they’d buy comics). She’s a symbol of hope and strength, and I hope this theming continues to be talked about for years to come. Supergirl is arguably the second most significant female character in comics ever (Wonder Woman takes first place for that).

The character of Supergirl is constantly evolving, but it’s amazing to see people talking about her so much right now.

The most relatable thing about the Supergirl movie was the overall state of Kara’s ship. My dad literally turned to me like five minutes into the movie and was like “lol that could be your room” thanks dad (he was correct but still)

one of the funniest scenes in supergirl is when ruthye is saying her speech to lobo, despite being told not to go up to him, and you see kara mockingly mouthing along to it behind them 😭 they’re so rude big sister and annoying little sister coded lmao

You know what I loved about the new Supergirl movie? It's not about a world-ending, or universe-ending threat. It's a smaller scale, personal story that the viewer can get emotionally invested in. That's what I feel a lot of superhero movies have missed in the last 10 years. When every movie is about saving the planet, or the universe, it doesn't seem very high stakes anymore. I don't have any emotional investment in the end of the universe, but my dog dying? Fuck yeah, I'd do anything for my dog.

Supergirl (2026) is about girls and daughters and women. It's about messy girls, vulnerable girls, strong girls, scared girls. And, last but not least, it's about girls protecting girls. And it's all important.

Also Kara has such a fun reaction to pain. She gets so surprised!!!!!!! She's not used to pain anymore and she hasn't taken as many beatings as Clark, so she's really reckless with how she acts, and then when when she starts bleeding she's shocked and when she's hurt she shows it so clearly. She really doesn't know how to deal with it!

im really glad that ruthye in the movie was never expected or encouraged to fight (and she hardly did, only if she ran off by herself) because i feel like in some superhero media we see teens or young adults being burdened with a battle or war and how it scars them. it was nice to see her being shielded from it by the adult's (or just kara) around her.

really hope kara sat clark down after the events of 'superman' and explained that, by and at large, kryptonians were actually fine. it's his parents, specifically, who were fucking freaks
