Bernie Sanders joins Snapchat: 'What is this Snapshot thing?'

The Democrat became the latest presidential candidate to join Snapchat on Monday.

On Monday morning, Democratic Sen. Bernie Sanders became the latest presidential candidate to join Snapchat, the social media application that has become popular with teens and millennials.

In a tweet announcing his new Snapchat account, Sanders poked fun at himself, writing: “What is this Snapshot thing and why do I only get ten seconds?”

His Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, joined Snapchat in August. And several Republican candidates have been experimenting with Snapchat as well.  Snapchat has an estimated 200 million monthly active users and is considered one of the fastest growing social networks. The app is most popular with users in the 18-24 year old age group, making them a desirable group of potential voters for presidential candidates to attempt to reach.
