2) wrt prev’s tags, the reason you do not see more harps around is because they are not a portable instrument. Much the same reason you don’t see double basses around. With a single car seat in my car I became unable to transport my big harp - it’s a 32 string Celtic harp and it doesn’t fit in the spacious trunk of a Camry. If you’re playing a bigass harp (above is way bigger than mine but not as big as they can get), you need a special van. Like, a minivan won’t do unless you take out all the seats and shove the thing in diagonally floor to ceiling and it still might not fit.

There are more harpists than you know! They just don’t usually feel like renting a U-Haul to play al fresco.

her name was Marsha P Johnson, and we have her to thank for so much.

remember, the first Pride was a riot, and she was one of the brave souls who endured it to help carve the path which so many of us walk today. she helped found several activist groups regarding LGBT safety and wellbeing. and she was absolutely radiant, too.

One of my favorite museum exhibits was at the Freer/Sackler galleries at the Smithsonian. Apparently after a long time protesting all their Asian relics were real, a team went through and verified what was real, what wasn't, and how each piece had entered the collection. Then it all went on display, and they didn't pull their punches. Cards like, "Buddha. Purchased 1923, possible black market. Originally dated to 1400 CE, actual date between 1918-1922." Other cards said things like, "believed stolen by museum collector in 1946" etc. It was like 8 or 9 rooms of "Not only were we gullible, we were also unethical and entitled going about it."

My resolution last year was to do one thing before bed that would make my morning feel easier, and that’s become a daily habit that I’m carrying into this new year.

Some nights even filling up the kettle and setting an empty mug out for my morning tea felt hard. But I was always thankful for it in the morning.

Other nights, one thing would lead to another, and I’d wake up in a clean house with everything ready to go.

And, on a rare few nights, the one thing that I could do to make my morning easier was going straight to bed and allowing myself to rest.

What stayed the same each day is that I would take a moment to think of what I could do for my future self and do it, even after a hard day. And I would wake up knowing that I had done my best and any effort—no matter how small—was a kindness to myself.
