Jade Sato-Stephens has come to Hawaii to compete in the Howler Grand Prix dirtbike race preliminary competition. 15 racers whittled down to 8, for a massive race in the Hawaiian wilderness. However, the day before the race her bike is stolen, and dumped in a rather-eccentric vacationer's backyard.

ugh I hate when I write for characters that I hate because I spend so much time hating them that I dont pay attention to how they act and speak so then I have to go back and listen to them and watch their mannerisms and it just makes me interact with the character more and I hate it
Sometimes, fanfiction is carefully plotted out stories, with plot points and call backs and themes that all tie it up in a meaningful and exciting way.
And sometimes fanfiction is, ‘Watch me do a fucking KICK FLIP off this cool sentence!! Also here's some sex'
Imma talk more about Ling Xi because I genuinely feel like red string man
I chose Shorinji Kempo for a few reasons as her fighting style. I was looking at Shaolin combat training, but realized pretty quick that she needed extended time in Japan for the backstory I had planned. So I decided to have her family send all of their children over to Japan as kids to train in combat.
because disciples were never able to use shikigami the way Dhruv Lakdawalla could. so they resorted to control of cursed energy.
I landed between two styles from there: Shorinji Kempo and Judo.
It got easy from there, because I was building her character specifically fight Mahito, which meant she needed to retain as LITTLE physical contact as possible in order to counteract him. Judo is all contact, meanwhile Shorinji Kempo is focused in speed. The faster you're moving, the less time spent touching your enemy, and the less opportunity there is to get grabbed. So that's where we settled. It also worked because her aesthetic is heavy gyaru-inspired, so the hand positions of Shorinji Kempo work to keep her nail art intact 💅
I did want to keep the Chinese elements to her combat, though, so her style with weapons is completely different. When fighting with weapons (Rope Dart Samsara's Tether or Kirin Whip Sunyata's Grip (she adopts this weapon post-Shibuya after half of the rope for the dart was burned away by Sukuna)) she adopts a Wushu martial arts style, which is much more decorative but also focuses heavily on large movements. THIS came about when I was actually drafting her debut one-shot where she shuts Naoya tf up, because the Shorinji Kempo movements did not match his. It also matches with her cursed technique Pathway more, which manipulates cursed energy on varying scales: from distorting cursed techniques to splitting her own energy from her body.

TLDR: In hand-to-hand combat, Ling Xi uses Shorinji Kempo Martial Arts. With weapons and cursed technique, she uses Wushu Martial Arts. And her domain is basically 'stop hitting yourself'.
the short story box of happiness implies rohan hasn't been happy since he was 4... by making him hallucinate reimi and arnold (the villain in the story traps people by trapping them in a happy illusion)
the short stories are peppered with small details like that that hint at something deeper
oh yea no im a firm believer that Rohan did not have a happy childhood post-Reimi. He lives alone at 20 even though he's seemingly moved home, we never hear anything about the past outside of Reimi, he acts like... that-
Yea no something happened to him in his youth to make him the way he is. I've seen LOTS of ideas of what, some of which make perfect sense, but idk for sure.
I feel like that idea that Rohan had a shit childhood is pretty widely accepted, too-
"Did you... split your body and soul?" He gasped, standing up from the crack in the wall with a look of crazed glee.
"A technique handed down through generations to those with enough control to manage. A technique that predates even Sukuna." She explained, "Pure control of my energy, that is all it is."
The curse laughed, "That sounds kind of lame, honestly. Who cares how old it is! You're just moving it around, what are you supposed to do with that?!"
Ling Xi paused in thought, before elaborating, "I don't believe you fully comprehend what I mean by control. You manipulate souls, mold them into what you see fit. I reject your notion of a soul entirely."
A bright blue wall slowly slid up from her feet, the energy crushing through the floor and ceiling between the two fighters. It tore though ceiling tiles and concrete, but through the shaking Ling Xi didn't react.
"My consciousness is the consciousness of those that have come before me, before them. My mind has existed for thousands of years, and has culminated to this moment. You are simply the culmination of consciousness from thousands of years of evil thought. As is everything you alter. I do not believe in your notion of a soul, therefore, I believe I have no soul for you to leech."
That seemed to set the curse off, and as he lunged for her, to pass through the wall with his creations, she struck.

it's important to note that I come from a time when Mary Sues were not ironic fun, but were in fact a plague upon the earth so giving her multiple, strong powers (even though they make sense and are balanced) is kind of making me wanna throw up.
