i do have something very silly i made for personal reference if it ever comes up in art/fic:

i really like the little plant zone on the hail mary in the movie, and i hc it as a way to extend food supply that little bit further in a way that's fuel- and space-efficient to pack before launch. it also gives a better purpose for any human/food waste on the ship, of course. ergo, the "seed packets" column here on the chart denotes what i think would be pretty likely to get packed: stuff that's beginner-friendly to grow, vitamin-packed, and doesn't require a lot of fancy prep to eat the results. there's probably also microbes and fungus in the potting soil to help the natural nutrient cycles and composting. (comatose earthworms too??? would be really funny...)

the "canned" and "dried" columns suggest alternate sources grace could have gotten the seeds, given that he evidently has a pretty good selection of well-preserved food to eat. i could probably add a "frozen" column, but this was just to keep it streamlined and minimize the amount of frozen food (which is very energy-intensive to maintain) that would have been packed relative to the dry storage. we're going to assume this is a sufficiently sci-fi setting where the viability of the seeds in these food sources is irrelevant and that a dried or cooked seed can still germinate. if aliens are real, you can plant the seeds from a fig newton, it doesn't matter. even before deciding to roadtrip to erid, grace expressed that he'd already been thinking about ways to extend his food supply, so i think it's pretty plausible that he'd have the foresight to save seeds as he ate, even early into the mission.

the "tree" column is specifically for simon's enjoyment in a bloodymary scenario. give that man some trees to take care of!!! if this is a situation where the wormhole timewarp isekai business gave him back his tree seed whole instead of having it stay fused with him (tbh i've been playing with tree-hybrid simon lately...) then of course he also gets a beautiful sugar maple to add to the orchard. we're going to assume that, as mentioned, grace got a jumpstart on the gardening pretty early on, so he's already got some few-year-old saplings before showing up to erid. if necessary, the ship/biodome's fine-tunable living conditions and vitamin synthesis tech could potentially let them accelerate the growth of the trees even further, but simon may be morally opposed to Plant Steroids and prefer a more natural approach where possible.

in a ship/biodome setting without insects, obviously all of these plants are going to require manual pollination to produce fruit, but i think grace would get a kick out of it from a science-experiment standpoint, and simon would be just falling all over himself with the honor and joy of helping these plants reproduce. i like thinking simon in particular has a real green thumb, and with an entire internet's worth of botanical reference material on hand, he'd be unstoppable.

there's probably a lot more plants i could put on this list but i feel like it's already a good-sized selection of stuff :D
