thinking about a long article I read a while back talking about the history of “ultra-processed foods” and how they related to american/western health issues. my main takeaway was a short paragraph buried in the middle of the article, where the guy who came up with the term just says outright “technically by these processing metrics tofu and sourdough fall into the same category as doritos and we’re not really sure how to square that circle” and the article just. moves right past that.

I think this will be hard for some people to hear, but Israelis who live in Israel, who engage with our neighbors, who protest our government, who fight for peace and change, have done more for Palestinians than western leftists ever have or will.

In gaza palestinians in the hospitals not only treat patients with minimum supplies but bring comfort to children who lost their parents. Palestinian civil workers who remove rubble to find anyone still living under homes recently bombed have done more than israelis. Palestinian teachers who continue to teach children in the refugee camps are doing more than what israelis could ever do

"Western leftists" where many palestinian diaspora live have continued to fundraise for Gaza and evacuate children who need prosthetics for the limbs they lost. Palestinians in the west and doctors in the west continue to do missions in Gaza and report what they've seen when they come back. Western leftists continue to fight to stop the supplying of bombs and weaponry to Israel by blocking boats and railroads

Israelis continue to block aid trucks. Some Israelis protest while others rampage the west bank and burn villages. Israelis continue to dox their palestinian peers at universities for posting about gaza. Israelis in the majority support the idfs action in Gaza. Majority of Israelis support the "transfer" of gazans in the same way ben gurion supported the "transfer" of Palestinians.

By now, you all must have seen the news that Gaza had officially run out of food, as one of the main aid suppliers in Gaza, World Food Program, had announced that their stock has been completely depleted, leaving just a few days for community kitchens to function.

This comes after more than 50 days (and counting) of Israel's complete closure of the borders, preventing food and medicine, among other life essentials, from entering Gaza. There are children crying out of hunger with trucks loaded with over 100,000 tons of food mere minutes away from them, which Israel continues to prevent from entering besieged Gaza.

This also comes after Israel had deliberately destroyed swaths of farmlands in Gaza, specifically targeting them with bombs and chemical weapons that destroy the chance of growing crops. Israel also made sure bakeries are destroyed as well as water sources.

Diabolical is an understatement when it comes to the Zionist entity.

There are still things you can do. On top of raising awareness and protesting when possible, independent organisations like APN are working directly with farmers in Gaza to rehabilitate the agricultural sector and restore local food systems to combat famine, counter the blockade and build food sovereignty. You can donate to their Revive Gaza's Farmlands initiative here.

Additionally, keep in mind that this means whatever food supplies remain available in Gaza now costs astronomical amounts of money, so keep sharing and donating to individual fundraising campaigns. Gazafunds is a good source if you're not sure where to start. Remember that your donations and shares are often the only source of hope for these families.

That reporter works for Channel Nine which is, I would argue, Australia's most conservative free to air tv channel. And keep in mind that most people in Australia don't have cable. It is owned by the Packer family, the gambling tycoons who own Crown Casinos and are friends of the Murdoch family. More specifically, James Packer and Lachlan Murdoch are friends and have done business deals together in the past (to not a great success). Americans might be more familiar with Lachlan's work overseeing Fox News for the past decade or so.

Up until that shot was fired, that reporter was giving the mildest of reporting. The bare bones of what was physically happening on the ground without the context needed to understand why the protesters were there in the first place. It was designed to look unbiased whilst leading people to side with the cops. And then you shot her in the leg.
